You ever find something that's so odd, you're not sure if you actually like them but you're glad that they exist? Yuichi Yokohama's comics are like that to me.

Ok, theres a new TV series that just started this week in UK so anyone from the UK here is the link...

For everyone else.

"Utopia"

This was really good. It is a Thriller/Mystery type series, and even better its about a comic that has some pretty big implications for the people that have read/know about it.

I really recommend watching it.

A friend introduced this site to me and it is full of great and helpful tutorials for digital artists.   Unfortunately for me, my own forays into the digital world are very brief and digital drawing intimidates me.  But for those unfamiliar with the site I hope it might help others out there.

While I like that many major comics can be relatively easily turned into feature movies via Neal Adams' MotionComic technology or some other equivalent I feel they don't exploit the pages as well as they could.

This is a hand drawn comic being filmed and used as a popup/flipbook/multimedia and real time effects on the pages, all done in camera. Quite impressive and something maybe worth trying if only for its story boarding superiority and the lessons it could teach you about pacing.

Hey guys, I thought I'd share the script-writing programme that we use at uni for anyone interested! It's called Celtx and it's free to download. It is basically a program that formats scripts of various types! It has formatting for Film, theatre, storyboards, novels and of course comics!

http://celtx.en.softonic.com/

It looks a bit intimidating and confusing at first, but there's tutorials on youtube on how to use it and it's really simple once you know how to get around it.

Thanks Hats. Is it purely a programme to format your script Professionally then?

Pretty much, but it does have options where you can add profiles for your characters to show development, add notes to make your scripts have more in depth information without cluttering the actual script, and even organise shooting schedules (if you were doing a film script for example).

A comparison.  They updated the colors on a Moebius work and added in all these computer aided effects and basically it looks like crap compared to the original.  The lesson here is that colors can enhance or fuck up a story.

It's a great article and it lines up with the picture that's been painted of the industry.  But reading the comments I can't understand why people get so butt hurt and defensive about something so obviously true.  Yes, crap will sell but that's always an exception.  If it were true that everyone could sell their own version of 50 Shades of Grey and make millions...well, there's no lack of imitators that's for sure and if you walk into a bookstore you'll see bookshelves full of the stuff.  Fanfiction does not make one a professional.

The truth hurts.

But so does a cut on the back of my ankle I got from would for a long walk the other day as part of my weight loss plan. Am I going to cry about it? No, but I'll curse at it a bit, put a band-aid on it, and keep walking. Because soon I'll be tougher and weigh less and it will have been worth it.

I hope that analogy worked...

But seriously, that article was INSPIRING.

Yeah, I expected that to put a damper on my mood, but everything he talks about I've seen before. At this point, I'm just doing my own thing. Industry or not, I ain't gonna stop making comics.

Yeah, I honestly have little to no interest in working for one of the big companies. If it ever happens, it will be awesome. But I'm more interested with teaming up with writers and doing cool new fresh content.

DRAW ON! WE MUST ALL DRAW ON!

I was thinking of putting this on the Voider Books thread but I felt it might be a little inappropriate for that thread.  But anyways here's a preview of Kenneth Rocafort's art for Superman #17.  It's great because you can clearly see his linework:

That's Disney's paperman. It's a mixture of 2D animation and 3D animation if my memory serves me right.

Wow, you are a true professional!
Did you research it all specifically or just sort of get into a habit that works for you?
Do you still feel tired even though you stick to it though?

I didn't do any research, I just picked a time which didn't feel too late to go to sleep and made sure that when I got up I would have gotten 8 hours. So usually I'm in bed at 2 am and wake up at 11 am. I usually don't feel tired.

Interesting interview with Mike Carey, a British author who has worked in TV, movies, novels and comics on stuff like X-Men and the Vertigo series Lucifer.  Quite interesting to read his attitude about comics and the differences between mediums and so on:
