Darchangel"s Sanctuary
« on: Sep 16, 2009, 10:57 PM »
Hello! I'll be posting stuff here from now on. I hope I get some detailed critiques from you guys.

First off, here's a knight concept. He's supposed to be made from many corpses, so his armor has many motifs.

And here's the plain-flavored pencil version. 8)

BTW, I have a dA account in case you're interested, http://7th-seal.deviantart.com

I'm currently working on the stuff I'll be submitting here (finally I'm doing comics ;D ), so I hope to hear from you guys when I do start posting sequentials.

nice work...strong inks and good colour work...

..the hand holding the sword looks a little off...almost like some fingers are missing.....

and conceptually speaking if it was salvaged along with his salvaged body parts wouldn't the armor be a bit banged up?
-draw like you love it.... not like your mom told you to do it-

Oh yeah I guess I made him too new looking.  :D And I didn't ink this, it's just dark pencil work, directly colored over. I'll work on the fingers in upcoming versions.

A knight referenced from an action figure, done about a year ago. Colored in GIMP.

And the inks:

Wow, why haven't more people commented on this? Awesome inks to say the least!

...but I'm still waiting for new work and comics.

That's looking significantly better in black and white! You could have done some really cool shading on the coloring but what you have here lacks any clear light source and the sky is looking awfully saturated and cheery for a guy that looks menacing. For that kind of image it may have been cool to have something more moody and dark like http://blog.gino-caron.com/images/20080730122856_sunset.jpg for the sky and more brown tones in the figure like http://xadhoom.deviantart.com/art/Days-of-Victory-poster-133228556 . For me it helps to find photographs and stuff by other colorists to get a feel for what I want to do. If it's something I'm not capable of doing yet, I track down tutorials. Remember that tutorials are your friend when it comes to coloring, I've done a number of them http://entervoid.com/board/index.php?topic=9939.0 here.
