Dear Void Council, (copied from an email I sent you guys a week or so ago.)

Ive been a member of Void for a long time now. My main, Dreds, has seen his fair share of battles. I have always been a fan of the site and its ability to inspire creativity and collaboration among artists. Minus some drama here and there, Entervoid has always been a place of positive and constructive criticism for everyone. I have been considerably absent from the site for several years mostly due to my endeavors as a self publisher. I co-wrote and illustrated an RPG called Battle for Oz in 2014 and have been working on its sequel book for about a year now. Battle for Oz is a modern telling of Oz with elements of horror and fantasy based on L. Frank Baum’s public domain books. It uses the award winning RPG ruleset, Savage Worlds system, published by Pinnacle Entertainment and was very well received both in Kickstarter and in print.

Outside of the sequel to Oz, I have been working on a Superheroes RPG in the background and have every desire to make it my next book. To that end, I wanted to approach you- the owners and creators of the Entervoid site- with the idea of creating a collaborative superhero RPG using the Savage Worlds system set in Void City. I love the idea because it will give those that play the RPG an online source to reference for substance, content, and ideas for their games as well as drive a new demographic to your site. My publishing company would own the rights to the RPG itself and any artist that submits a character to be featured in the book would be turning over rights to that character to be used SOLELY FOR THE PURPOSES OF THE RPG and retain all other rights and ownership of the character outside of that. All artists that submit characters would have creative input on how their character is portrayed and their role in the RPG narrative. And you, the owners of Entervoid.com, would have creative input on the overall narrative itself and how VOID City is portrayed.

The basic setup for all Savage Worlds RPG setting books are as follows; The books all reference the Savage Worlds core book for the basic rules and in the case of a Superhero RPG, the Savage Worlds Superheroes Companion book. Each setting book outlines the specific races available in the setting and any additions or eliminations in character creation as outline in the core book, including the setting specific rules for building a superhero character in the superhero companion book. This section would also include some ideas on the type of characters a players could build appropriate to the setting. The book then gives a specific breakdown of the location, in this case Void City, and maps and descriptions of important places and NPCs that could be encountered there. Then the book the details a game master only section that would provide the GM with information, encounter tables for game building, and a plot point campaign that outlines an adventure to take the characters through. The plot point campaign is a series of adventures meant to be played in 3 to 4 hour game sessions that would highlight specific NPCs, both allies and adversaries, as well as touring the important places in the city. Finally, the book would have a bestiary that stats out important NPCs, creatures, and common folk that the GM can use in the game.

My initial ideas for using Void City as an RPG setting are the following;

1. Set the game in a modern day Void City, outline characters that Void artists submit to be featured in the book as both allies and adversaries to the players, and create a plot point narrative that pits the players against some world ending threat similar to the Armageddon event we have every year.

2. Set the game in a depression era Void City as a Noir like superhero setting using the same hook as above.

I would welcome any additional ideas if the project is green lighted and we move forward with it. If you give me the permission and license to use Void City as the setting for the RPG, my next step would be to create a forum post describing the project and soliciting submissions for characters for the RPG. All artists that submit characters and are featured in the book would receive a writers credit in the book as well as a free PDF and print of the book. I would also make space in the book for some actual comic art featuring the characters and narrative of the RPG. Any artists that submit and are hired to collaborate with me on this comic would be compensated for their art based on contribution and Proffesional skill level. The book will be published using Kickstarter as the funding source but I have sufficient resources available to me as well as experience that will allow my to set a low production cost. Probably about $3500, and I do not anticipate the book having any problems getting funding considering that there are very few strong superhero setting books available for the Savage Worlds RPG that are worth a dam, I can maybe count two. I will include links in this email to both my book, as well as the Savage Worlds RPG and Pinnacle Entertainment for you to review. I realize that this is a monumental proposal full of what ifs, and, how tos, so you are welcome to contact me by email or phone with any questions (919-720-2736). If you don't think this is a good fit for Entervoid, I will certainly understand and hold not ill will if that is your decision. I personally am very excited at the prospect and believe that the many talented artists that contribute to Entervoid would be equally excited.

Thank You for your consideration,

Dan Smith (drawdan is my member name on the site)

Sounds sensible. Ive tried to read some of the past Armageddons, and just got lost in the page count. I prefer a concise story, If every artist submitted 15 to 20 pages, that's at least three full comic books worth of goodness.

THE INCUBATOR / Revision of older concept
« on: Sep 21, 2014, 10:53 AM »
So I have been working on a kind of cartoony style for my sequential s. I started a while back when I created the character "Red Star", but I had to put fun art on hold while I illustrated a book. Now that project is complete, so I am going to play with sequential s again.

I have reworked the character, made him a little beefyer and revamped the background. I am posting the original art for contrast. I am working on the intro pages now.

Backstory-  Venger

Venger

Venger  was grown in a lab one part at a time, making him the world’s first commercial Super Hero. He was, for all intents and purposes, a biological machine or synthetic human. He was created by a secretive group of scientists using advanced and quite frankly, illegal procedures, involving cloning tissue and combining it with a form of biological robotics. The Venger project was funded by none other than Pego, one of the largest toy companies in the world. Their concept was radical….. Build an automated full size Super Hero that actually fights crime and saves people, and then rake in the franchising money off his name brand. As crazy as it sounds, it actually worked. From a control room at Pego headquarters in New York City, trained pilots remotely operated Venger who appeared to the outside world to be a walking talking Super Hero. In just the first month, Venger would go onto stop six bank robberies, save twenty four people in car accidents and structure fires, and rescue four hostages. All the while sporting a snazzy red and white costume with Pego Toys logo prominently featured on his back. It wasn’t long before Pego was getting rich off of Venger T-shirts, lunchboxes, and action figures with video games and even a movie script down the pipeline.

So what went wrong? Every twenty four hours, Venger has to spend at least seventy-two minutes charging. He had a special capsule located at the Pego corporate plant where he recharged. On one particularly stormy night, an electrical strike at the substation the powered the plant caused an overload that overwhelmed Venger’s  capsule surge protector. The damage was extensive and the tech’s could not bring Venger back online, they thought that they had lost their cash cow for good. Then Venger woke up that night, on his own. He was not only active, but he was self-aware. Pego executives couldn’t have been more excited. Now, they thought, they would have their proverbial cake and eat it to, a corporately sponsored Super Hero that didn’t need a team of expensive pilots to operate him. Well those dreams and aspirations where shattered when Venger decided that he didn’t want to be a corporate stooge and refused to take orders any more.

What happened next made litigation history.  Pego Toys LTD publically exposed Venger’s true origins and tried to legally force Venger to comply as property of the company. Venger hired a human rights attorney and sued the company, claiming that they were in essence violating his human rights. In a case that got international attention, Venger asked the Supreme Court to officially recognize him as the world’s first  artificial human being and grand him sovereign independence. Over a rather short trail, Venger successfully proved that he was in fact sentient and self-aware despite the fact that he was in essence, manufactured. He was granted independence and officially recognized as a living machine. Venger took the name, John Smith, and was issued a birth certificate, social security card, and granted full US citizenship. Even worse, Pego Toys was ordered by the court to pay Venger 50% profit on all proceeds generated by the Venger name brand retroactively. Despite his enormouse bank account, Venger found a small apartment, and tried to live a normal life. But he found that despite his newly found free will, he was hard wired to be in the thick of things and craved the excitement and adventure crime fighting provided. He decided to move to Void City, believing that he would fit in there given the city’s reputation.

Venger is 5’10” and built like a sh”#t brick house. Though he appears to be an adult man, he is actually only about 2 ½ years old. He functions just like a human man except he has yet to master things like human emotion, though he is capable of them. (Think DATA in STAR TREK with the human emotion chip) Venger has an identic memory and is capable of processing information hundreds of times faster than a human. Despite that, his relative inexperience as a human means that he is often socially awkward and far too literal. He does not have to eat or drink to function, though he has been designed to do so without detriment for appearances. Venger does not have to breathe or sleep but he still needs to charge up at any standard outlet for at least seventy-two minutes out of every twenty-four hours. The Super Powers he was engineered with include, super human strength, flight, an advanced healing factor, and an energy based attack that he can charge up as a punch or use it in range.

Ok, so my book is almost ready to go to print. But I need a colorist proficient in photoshop for about 14 images. I wont be able to pay a fortune,(this is a funded kickstarter project) but we can negotiate. The deadline is Feb.1....(I know...not long) Keep in mind that my fledgling company will be printing a follow up books so a good colorist can also earn some future work...

Please email(piratepressllc@gmail.com) me or call me (919)720-2736...if interested to discuss details.

This is a real awesome idea for a tourney! Though all the participants so far are great...all I see is alot of NEw SChool artists...I have been taking a break from sequential work but I love this concept so much I might have to through in. Question to ROLFQ, can I use a dead character?, cause this tourney is right up White Dwarfs alley.

HEY ROLFQ!!

quote from battle thread-

""What the hell?? When they said 4 weeks i thought actual four weeks.
Damn!
I'll have to drop alot of shit and dive straight into it.""

Mee To!! I thought the 4 weeks was going to be from the 3rd of Jan. It would have been near impossiable for me to work on this during the holidays because I was out of town untill the 2nd. I can knock this out by the 17th, but it wont be quite as awesome. If it is all possable to give us a full 4 weeks from the 3rd that would be even better!! I really wanted to give this batlle some extra lovin!!

Could you consider this, I am sure all three of us could use that time to make the grand finale kickass!!
