Thanan: It feels like this is incomplete, but it was still very entertaining and that's a big plus. You want to work on filling those white panels with more background stuffing.

keep it up!

In all seriousness, though, I defer to Hiemie's comments critique-wise.  Otis really is just a good old fashioned good time kinda character, and I'm glad to see him move on to round two.  I also actually loved the early subversion.  It looks like you're going to avoid the prepackaged "invitational tournament fight" story arc that a lot of people go for, then suddenly Otis just mutters "good luck with the match" and flips a table, which is the international sign language for "it is on".  If you're going to go the "turn the tournament into a literal tournament in the story world" route, you should be a little cheeky about it.  And so you were.  Good shit.

Fair warning, Thanan.  If I see you in a later round, Otis and Starker are going to have a 72 hour arm wrestle.  It will be awesome.

Thanks guys! This was a huge learning experience and I'm taking your critiques to heart. Just now looking back on it there is so much I would love to revise now that I've got a better understanding of comics. Honestly I'm a bit embarrassed that this was all I was able to do, but I think now that I know what I need to be focusing on I should deliver quite the match next round. Thanks again guys! This is such an awesome site, I've learned more since drawing and posting this comic than I had in the months of just trying to learn on my own. There is nothing like having actual experience and critique!

Thanan:  I actually love Otis as a character, perhaps because he's vaguely reminiscent of my own long term character but also because he's such a gregarious galoot! You actually capitalized on Otis' powers and motives and I want to know more about him, glad to see you'll get the chance. Great action and  just the right amount of storytelling. You've got some inconsistencies with quality and there's no real sense of place outside the first page. You need a background shot at least one panel per page- always.
Your panel arrangements and compositions are way too simply and chunky for how good your story telling and framing is otherwise. Your comics are seriously impaired by this simple lack of design. Step it up for next round, you'll need to.

Tsuyoki-sucks you couldn't do more, not much I can say besides try out a comic with a longer deadline sometime.

Thanan-looks like you had similar issues with needing more time, because a lot of this looks unfinished. It was nice and easy to read, action can be tough to make clear. You should definitely try to give your backgrounds more love in the future, people usually aren't hanging out in big empty white spaces most of the time.

Tsuyi: I'm assuming you misjudged how much time you had to work. It's hard to jump right in sometimes. As a note, I hope your future comics isn't just headshots. Butttttt, I actually got a giggle from your comic. I think it was Otis' reaction on the second page. It's almost like he said "Otis... I love you."

Thanny: I also feel like you planned more than you could accomplish in what time you had. You did finish, but there was a lack of backgrounds. I don't think you should use the line tool to make backgrounds. It looks intensely awkward next to your lines. I am glad you're trying action and angles though. Doing it is the best way to get better at it. In writing, you actually made a really entertaining little comic. He's just this barbarian wizard who likes to fight and isn't malicious about it. And that's just fun. Keep up the good work.

Tsuyoki: Time-management's definitely a bugger but it'll come with practise - yours looked promising!

Thanan: Very entertaining, Would like to have seen a bit more in the way of backgrounds (though I know that can be particularly time-consuming) but the pace of the action scenes was great and Otis is quite an endearing character.

Would love to see what you can do with some time behind ya, Tsuyoki. I enjoy your style.

And Thanan, I love your character bro! I'm sorta itching to fight him. If we don't go head to head in the tourney, I'd love to battle you in a regular match someday. Good work!

Tsuyoki: So much promise, so little product.. Better luck next time

Thanan: Otis really is a bad-ass character.. I found him a bit strange in the forums, but seeing him in action I can totally get "the feel" of the gentle giant.. Good artwork too!

Wish I had gotten to see more of your stuff Tsuyoki! It looks like this battle was going to be excellent. You have a nice style, I just didn't get to see how the match was going to be handled.

Thanan, I already talked to you about line quality. I know you're working on it in the future! But I just love the flow of the comic, it reads very well and the action is conveyed nicely!
