Unfortunately, I'm also gonna have to drop. Emergency circumstances and all make me feel like poop but y'all deserve people who can give the battles their full attention.

spit spat, time to chat / West Coast Cons
« on: Dec 23, 2014, 08:47 PM »
Yooooo 2015 is almost here and convention season isn't too far away! I'm based in Portland now, and while I don't have too much money, I'm wanting to get out there and start tabling more cons on the West Coast. I know a lot of Voiders are out here, so I'd like to set up a thread where we talk about cons we're tabling and see who wants to join forces.

8
Now that I'm (kinda) settle into Portland, I wanna get a tally of Voiders living near me. Who else is in my neck of the woods?

GO FOR BROKE! / Re: Theo/AmanitaZest's Junk
« on: Apr 18, 2014, 04:43 PM »
Thanks!

I've been developing a new comic about roller derby magical girls. This was one of the earliest test images:

Then started developing a core cast:

And then a short comic with a transformation sequence:

(I found out Star Slammers is a recently-rebooted sci-fi action comic, so I had to change the name a bit.)

Now I'm making scripts for the first chapter and brewing some other story ideas. Not sure what my timeline on this is, I'm just having fun with this.

10
Dang, I really dug that short! Lovely palette in those forests.

Jeezy pete I am bad at updating this. Let's roll.

This is one of the first things I made during my internship at Periscope Studio. A short four-page story that was later published on Study Group.

I also did another round of user-driven comics. This time I did a few strips based on one-word prompts.

A page from Cradlepit Cave that I particularly liked. The project has had its ups and downs, but it definitely has shown my improvement.

This was my four-page story for PowFlip's Junji Ito-inspired anthology Uzumaximum. Based on a true story, the Kentucky Meat Shower.

This was a story for a Louisville-themed comics anthology. The central character is Freddy Farm Bureau, a staple of the local state fair. Ever fall kids can come see this gigantic statue to ask him questions about farming and Mrs. Farm Bureau. This story was mainly an excuse for me to play with color, since I hadn't used any in so long.

spit spat, time to chat / Re: The Zac Gorman Question.
« on: Mar 04, 2014, 12:44 PM »
One loophole I've been taught is that changing art styles can be considered parody. Zac Gorman's comics are not outright comedic parodies, but they reinterpret the games in his personal style, one that is not easily mistaken for the official Nintendo look. The main goal of IP laws is to prevent consumer confusion, so as long as you take steps to avoid that (by changing the style or by including disclaimers), you should be okay.

Art Jams / Mardi Gras Jam!
« on: Mar 04, 2014, 12:42 PM »
Yes folks, it's time for loud parties, heaps of gumbo, buckets of booze, and more beads than Leland can handle.

It's Fat Tuesday, AKA Mardi Gras! Draw your characters enjoying (or simply enduring) the festivities any way they see fit.

Thanks! Geez I need to be more frequent about these updates. Let's start with a quick dump of one of my comics from earlier this year, a supernatural horror/mystery story called Eras: Fung. It's written by a guy named Luke Herr, who's doing a series of short stories with public domain superheroes. It was a bit of a pain, but good experience. Damn shame the guy still hasn't shipped out the books for Kickstarter backers, though.

spit spat, time to chat / Re: Manga Studio is Cheap Again!
« on: Oct 22, 2013, 11:39 PM »
Woah. I've had MS since last year's sale and I didn't know about half of these color tools. Is there a good tutorial somewhere I could look at?

I'll pitch in and say that the inking tools in MS are fucking phenomenal. Where Photoshop's base brushes feel mushy, Manga Studio's feel crisp and weighty. There's some great custom brushes out there, but I haven't feel the need for it yet, I'm having too much fun with the basic set.

spit spat, time to chat / Re: Suggest me some Anime
« on: Oct 02, 2013, 03:22 PM »
I'm a BIG fan of Masaaki Yuasa's work. He's easily become my fave anime director. They're high-concept series with short running times, novel visual styles and wonderful music. Just listen to the premises to these-

MindGame- A nobody who dies shamefully by a gangster tricks God, cheats Death, and runs off to live life. Gorgeous insanity ensues. (This one's actually a movie.)

Tatami Galaxy- A college dropout relives his university days differently each episode, trying to find the perfect "rose-colored campus life". His actions have increasingly absurd consequences.

Kaiba- Two Tezuka-esque cuties try to find each other in a world where memories and bodies are interchangeable. Heartbreak ensues.

Kemonozume- A flesh-eating demon disguised as a human falls in llove with the samurai who's sworn to kill her. They elope, and dark comedy ensues.

Watch 'em all. Please.
