Hey scruffs, sorry about the site. I kinda gave up on trying to find the problem a while ago. Everytime I'd upload new code, it would keep getting corrupted. Anyway, I parsed off the comics to their own section, seems to be unaffected: http://beardedmenace.com/comic/

Oh yeah, I've seen Dead Like Me. Good show, kinda became less so as time went on, but that's pretty much how it goes. But yeah, definitely dug it.

Your mechanical/architecture is really jaring up against your looser character style. Might just be that you're relying a little too much on technology to measure those shapes for you. Try handling these things like you do your characters. Might not turn out as clean, but might feel a bit more unified.

Good practice, anyway (one I need to exercise as well!)

Haha, oh man A, that's inspired right there. Creative! But I'm with squid, where are all the wacky inventory items?

B - great strong pose, nice detail. Color could've used a bit of smoothing, perhaps.

C - Nice, slightly different take. The pose is begging for some sort of grounding, however.

These are cool! Fun design, squidman!

I guess when I said "Flower Influence" I meant on her body as a whole. I was imagining something of an upside-down flower, her body was the stem, and her lower half/legs were the pedals. I've definitely shifted that vison tho, in building her back story and talking a bit to Ponbiki recently. He actually suggested a really clever solution for her leg issue that actually works out really well, and I'll be looking at adopting on the next revision. There's still her "hair" tho, I could definitely incorporate some flowery texture in there, tho they'd most likely be dead and withered ones. Gotta keep it creepy!

Speaking of revisions, here's another pass at "The Professor":

Thanks for stoppin'!

Thanks for the references, Wei! She's definitely becoming more twisted and wicked in design the more I draw her. I think at first I wanted to have more of a flowerly influence in her design, not pretty flowers, of course. But looking at these, a more tree like route seems more ideal.

Theo -
The basic idea is this: There is a plane of existence between "Life" and "Death" that our conscious energy (ie: soul) temporarily inhabits after our physical body can no longer support it. It is then processed to serve a greater purpose in the grand scheme of the universe.

The story will be about the inhabitants of Sundrop, a town set in this plane. This town, styled as a small desert town, is a place for souls to wait while they are processed by the greater forces at work. The warden, a former old west icon, and his small group of companions, live there to help shelter and guide the newly dead until their time to move on.

I'm trying to build it as open as possible so that the range of story possibilities is great. I don't have a grander plot for it all at the moment, not sure it will have one. Rather I want the stories to exist independently, the focus resting on the four main characters, their interactions, their histories, and their adventures. Character studies as well as thought experiments on life, death, and the workings of the universe.

Ok, so maybe that's not so basic, haha. But that IS the general idea, without getting deep into the characters themselves and the specific tales I am planning.

Anyway, I've invaded your eyeballs long enough, thanks for lookin'! More art soon!

Hey guys, some new characters in the same series as the others above. Still adjusting designs, but been using these to practice my coloring as well as try new style approaches.

Tested my ability with blacks on this one. I like it, but I don't feel it's the approach I'm going to take. More tests needed, maybe with the other characters to see how it fits.

Thanks for stoppin'!

Really lovin' C. Has a great woodcut style going on, top notch execution on the hatching! I really like the heavy feel of the character in D as well. The chunkiness of the armor really adds a feeling of power.

Great work, everyone!

Such awesome level of detail, great stuff!

Nice work finishing the 30 character challenge! I only lasted about 2 weeks before I fell behind and peetered out. Saul is my favorite.

I think your take on it is unique/interesting enough to keep it relevant. But shoot, draw what works best for you, it's all looking good.

Your inks look pretty nice! More inks!

Have you tried sketching in color? You could build your really rough shapes with a light colored pencil then finish your sketch with a dark pencil/ink over it. Might clean things up a bit. Just a suggestion, keep it up!

Thanks guys!

@Orange: Yeah, I'm testing the waters a little. Giving him a bit more form, mainly in the face. Thinking it will help make him more expressive, as well as help me see and build more with shapes, rather than lines.

Honestly, I prefer the first version you had. Did the band want something more cartoony, or was that something you just wanted to try out?

Maybe some solid tradtional inkwork will make it shine, but I find the more classic pin-up style a bit more interesting. This new one just feels too loose.
