I am very pleased with these match-ups. There are some in particular that could not be more perfect.

Let the battles, begin!

I'm immediately reminded of kindergarten cop.

Only this time, there WILL be tumors! Or at least some form of hemorrhaging. Y'know, safe kid stuff.

Digging all these last minute arrivals, by the way. Keep 'em coming!

I agree with all the above statements, I personally look forward to seeing what people come up with against BlackBird. The use of powers like those, as well as tactics against them are bound to make for an interesting fight.

Also, greetings to Atomic Top Hat, glad i could persuade you to join in the tourney, Johnny mah boy!

The list of characters is still expanding it seems, and i'm really glad to see it. This thing is going to be epic!

Runic, why haven't i heard of you yet? That character is awesome!

Interesting possibilities in store for fights with anyone that uses magic of any sort...

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

As it stands though, i'm not seriously considering any major plotline at the moment. It's looking like i'm likely to ditch the idea i presented here.

If anyone else wants to use it, they're more than welcome to. It wasn't developed very much so i'm cool with anyone taking it or adapting it as they please.

I'm looking forward to the beginning of the tourney, even if i am hella nervous about it as well. Not for any reason in particular, i'm just the kind of person that gets nervous about things easily.

I've known about Void for a long time, i think since i found out that M.E.Charm from DeviantArt (his account is now shut down, he's disappeared it seems) was on here involved in an SD Tourney. After that i pretty much lurked for a long time, off and on.

I've always considered getting an account here and trying my hand at battling but i've never had the confidence for it.

Then one day i decided to just draw a character i was thinking about using on EnterVoid in a piece i submitted to DeviantArt, just for the hell of it, but i never actually decided on entering it to the website or even considered it very strongly.

Then Angieness commented on the piece, told me about the invitational and linked me this thread, so now here i am.

EDIT:
One thing i'd like to inquire about before i forget; i actually forgot to put a link to my gallery inside my bio that i submitted for Salvo on the entervoid site. I do have a link on my entry in this thread though, but I can't seem to locate any options for fixing my error on my site submission.

I bring this up because the rules for the tourney indicate that gallery links have to be in the site submissions for characters. Could anyone please let me know: how i can go about making this simple alteration, or do i not need to?

I'm actually really embarrassed at my stupid and boring contribution now. So yeah, i think i'm going to sit out on trying to come up with ideas for a loose connection for this thing.

Yeah disregard my previous post. I'm actually kind of ashamed of how dumb and unimaginative my idea was now.

I'll leave my previous post unaltered so people can still navigate to the page though, there seems to more conversation still happening there.

12
I thought there was something slightly more complex going on but this isn't really a story.  It's basically what's happening.

Well, not really, because there is no established in-universe idea for what's happening. I just threw the idea out there of the thing actually being a tournament.

Just saying that the idea should be expanded a tad more..

I do agree though, the idea is very VERY simple and needs some more development. But like i said, it was just a suggestion. Hell, i'm really liking some of the ideas being thrown around by the others here, i'm all for people pitching their ideas and perhaps everybody coming to a consensus on what the canonical event that has lead to all these crazy fights is, but at the end of the day personal freedom and creativity has the final say.

Just thought it might be cool if this tourney has a story behind it in some way, not necessarily the thing i came up with that in retrospect is quite plain; so i understand why everyone hates it.

13
Glad you like the idea, but if you find that it interferes with your original story in a negative way then don't worry about it. Just putting that out there, don't want anyone to feel overly obliged to use the idea or anything.

Voila!

I have concocted a rather simple but humorous possible canonical explanation as to what the deal is with this tourney.

Everybody check it out and let me know what you think:
http://entervoid.com/board/index.php?topic=11339.msg191518#msg191518

Also, does anyone think i should try contacting every artist separately or should i just wait for some feedback either here or on the thread i made?

Hello there, fellow artists taking part in the first Void Invitational Tournament and watchers alike!

A thought occurred to me the other day, that perhaps it would be cool if we had a canonical explanation as to the nature of the Invitational Tournament in the world of Void City.

I've come up with an idea that I would like to present to you all from within this thread. Keep in mind that the idea i'm proposing is a possibility that any tournament participant may use, or not! If everyone wants to use this idea, i'm cool with that, if only some people are interested or none at all, that's fine too.

Ultimately, Void is all about having fun and doing whatever you want. I only present this idea so that anyone who wants to use it may if the idea of an overarching cross-comic plot-line appeals to anyone.

And so, for everyone's amusement, I have produced the following letter:

The idea here is that every character in the tourney has received this letter shortly after moving to the city. The reward will appeal to people who are seeking: information, certain people, money or fame. I tried to make the prize seem worthwhile for characters of all sorts.

Lemme know what you think!

That sounds like a good idea. I'll cook something up and then i'll post it up in a new thread.

I'll contact everyone individually but i'll also post a link here for everyone to follow once it's ready to pitch.

Might I humbly volunteer myself for spearheading the development of such a thing? :3

Also, would this forum be the best place to communicate an idea, or would i need to contact each artist separately?
I'd personally prefer if I could just place an idea here and if enough people like it, then it could be displayed on the first post alongside the character roster.

Sorry to be pestering everybody with yet more questions, but a thought occurred to me while I was thinking about intro story pages for Salvo.

Is there a canonical explanation for this tourney or is the concept of the tournament external to the world of Void and instead we have just a series of unrelated battles?

If it's left up to us to decide together what we'd like, i'd like to mention that I find the idea of a canonical explanation quite appealing and i'm willing to help create one if everyone would like it.

So, how is this tourney going to go down?

Thanks for the feedback concerning the thumbnails, i'll keep that in mind when it comes to submission time.

Since entering this thing I've been in anticipation of seeing the match-ups. Sometimes i seem to drift off and think of little else.

@Enaxon/Koze: That beast be stylin'. I like the finalized anatomy, it looks great and it works equally as well for when he's on all fours.

I also approve of the monster fight.

EDIT:
I have a question regarding thumbnails. Are those determined purely by whoever is putting the battle up, or can those be determined by the artists in some way?

I've always wondered how we can specify whether we want things like this:
http://entervoid.com/comic.php?id=1956

or this:
http://entervoid.com/comic.php?id=978

-for our thumbnails.

Piercing the Heavens > Any other BS shonen reference you're gonna wanna ever make.

Fuck yes.

Also, let it be said that everyone needs to submit a bio for their characters along with design sheets. We're all going to need to know about each-other's characters in more ways than just design in order to effectively represent each-other in comic form, people!

I look forward to reading about all the colourful characters we've seen so far, as well as all the rest yet to come :3

Dreadnought looks pretty cool, Enaxon :3

In terms of builds, i'd say the build you had going for him in the more sketchy drawings is a build that suits him best; the more stocky, solid build with a bit of a gut.
That kind of build just seems to work well with his demonic nature, perhaps because of the common conception that demons are powerful but indulgent creatures? Not only that but it makes him seem more beastly, like a great and powerful bear; large and intimidating but also kinda round in some areas; almost as if showing that he is well fed from the spoils of his battles.

Concept-wise I like him, I look forward to reading about his personality.

No. Polynesian.

Of course he was Italian.

Salvo isn't necessarily a name for just Italians D:

Besides, you said "almost" your grandfather's name. I didn't know which parts you meant and in what way. Sheesh. I didn't mean any disrespect, man.
