council and mods are in the very difficult process of selecting the 32 artists that will take part in the tourney

The first 32 who entered should be allowed to participate.. that seems fair, no?

52
Personally I'd prefer to keep it to two-way battles; if there are too many entries why not have a "qualifying" round, either on a voluntary-basis (I'll volunteer!) or depending on reputation / skill (so for example, I would have to go through qualifying whereas RoflQu or Majikuru wouldn't). Sure, it would add a week or two too our drawing time, but as Johnny Blaque said: making comic battles is supposed to be the fun part!

Last, last, last minute entry!

      The Last Princess of Karazadun

For over 80 000 years the Royal Family of Emroth has ruled on the planet of Karazadun. Now the planet is dying..

In his efforts to save his loyal subjects, the King of Karazadun has scoured the universe for a new place to inhabit, alas his search has been futile.
Clutching at straws and with time running out, he has sent his only daughter, Princess Farah, to VOID CITY to participate in the "Prettiest Princess Death Tournament".

Win, and as Queen she will establish a new reign in Void where the inhabitants of Karazadun can live on
Loose, and the Karazuni race will die with her

Full name and title: Her Royal Highness Princess Farah of Marathin
Race: Karazuni
Age: 267
Height: 1.80m

ITEMS:

The sword of Embelford: This shortsword belonged to Queen Erithabritt of Embelford, and is said to have beheaded all her six ex-husbands.

The shield of Paladon: The legendary shield of Prince Paladon, able to withstand a thousand blows! Unfortanly, no-one's kept count

The Royal Crown of Emroth:  Handed down through generations, the King has lent his daughter the Royal Crown of Emroth, said to be imbued with the soul of every king and queen of Karazadun. At the darkest hour of Karazadun the crown will call upon the ghosts for aid. Or so the story goes anyways..

Karazuni Race:
The Karazuni Race have excisted for over 80 000 years on the planet of Karazadun under the benevolent rule of the Royal Family of Emroth. Though wise in the ways of the New World, the Karazuni consider the slower pace and hardworking toil of old times to be of more benefit to their race and keep things decidedly low-tech. A Karuzuni is capable of living to an incredibly old age (the current King of Karazadun is rumored to be over 2000 years old). In the Karazuni race the females are  generally taller than the males, reaching a height of up to 3 metres within their first hundred years.

Kudos and two thumbs up for making this happen!

QFE:
Then you just don't act as a teacher so much. It doesn't have to be a requirement to be an expert, it just seems like people who feel confident about a topic might do a good job of providing feedback if they create the thread.

Also livestreams (or recorded video because of time-zones) would be excellent; in theory we could create a library of sorts with complete "video-tutorials"

Lol, very nice.. I love the "dumb" look on the creature combined with the angry look on the mans face... reminds me of catsuit in a way. I would go for a red color-scheme myself, just to make the creature "pop".. But that's just a suggestion :)

What Red said ;) It looks supercool, and your character certainly has charm but backgrounds would do (literally) a world of difference :)

Well I think natural form is about 4 feet tall? Not sure [...]

Like so, this kind of scale :) Just a suggestion mind ^^

I first heard about this site from another artist on the VGCats Forum (of all places..) - this was years and years ago, when I was still in my early 20-s and I spent a loooong, long time lurking before finally entering the Invitational Tournament last year - Alas, real life intervened and I was subsequently unable to access and/or participate in anything VOID-related from mid-july and pretty much up till now..

What keeps me here is simple; you awesome folks inspiring a wannabe-artist like myself to raise my skills and practice harder, so that one day, perhaps, I can draw half as good as some of you people! As a comic-nut who has dreamt of producing comics for a living since I was a little boy, this site is a perfect source for feedback, help and inspiration to become better!

Also; QFE:
I think we should always have events, we should let people in even if we don't like them or their characters. We should let people enjoy ourselves here. This place isn't a school. It's entertainment. You don't graduate from Void and it isn't just for children. When you say you're too mature for something, you often aren't.

I haven't been on here much lately, so I don't really know what I'm talking about, but having read up on it a bit, I thought I give you my two cents:

First of all, I have to give you two thumbs up for the VCU initiative, taking your time to think up and make assignments for the rest of us to learn is worth major awesomepoints!

Now, on to your questions:

Q:Do you think you will ever participate in a VCU challenge? Why?
A:Yes (if real life allows). Mainly because I could use the practice..

Q:What kind of challenge would you want to participate in?
A:As Puzzlething said; Anything that gets me out of my comfort zone really.

Q:Would a more interactive or group based thing be more appealing?
Uhmm.. I really don't know. the VOIDCHAT room is there, maybe it could be used as a "classroom" of sorts.

What can be done to make it better?
Reinstate the teacher. And by that I mean that the person making the thread should be responsible for constructive feedback (aka telling me what I am doing wrong). I know that would be asking a lot and not everyone has the time to be an art-teacher (for free!) on her/his spare time, but someone telling you what you are doing wrong would be greatly helpful..

More of an off-the-wall suggestion, what about lessons on livestream -audio/video about any subject (anatomy, posing, drapery, shading, coloring, perspective, storytelling, etc) ?

Well then, I shall also ask if anyone would have any interest in creating their own challenges?
Sure - aslong as he/she is up to the task.

Yeah, seriously.. if you havent read Transmetropolitan, go read it. now.

The first in a series of (so far) 4. I read all in a day, then went out and bought the two first. Thrilling stuff and beautiful BW drawings.
