News & Events / Re: You have been in VOID for too long if...
« on: Apr 23, 2011, 12:12 PM »
The fact that no one remembers Toolio even makes me sad.
when asking the general public.... he's not very high on the relevant things in Void list.... which again, makes me sad, and hopefully sometime this year, at least one of us can help correct that.

I think maybe it has something to do with you being around back then, and to anybody not around back then he doesn't mean anything... I've read pretty much every Void battle too and Toolio made no impression on me at all.

I mean out of hundreds and hundreds of characters he didn't even stand out and wasn't particularly awesome to me. Just another face in the many, many faces of characters and artists come and gone... most of which after reading them passed back into nothingness and non-memory not soon after.

Not every character and battle is like that. Some, it doesn't matter when you come into the world of Void or when you read them them, past or present, they stand out! but I'd say that's rare.
I wasn't here for James, P2, or Mize's heyday either, but they stood out to me. When I think of Void, I think of them! James and P2 ARE Void to me! Not some guy I've barely heard of and didn't resound at all in my memory aside from every once in a while I see a pic of him and don't know why.

Some things are subjective to their environment... cliques, humor, etc.
It was hilarious or cool to you back then, and all your buddies who shared the same outlook, but if you weren't part of that group and it's YEARS and YEARS later, times and people and enviroments have changed... you might not be in on why people thought that was cool... I don't know, that's my take.

Jho and Drastic are good choices...I'd really like to hear from One Dark Knight, Ponbiki, Sheldon, and AmazingDavid in future casts.

It would honestly make more sense to hide the winning/losing % until the end so no one knows who is winning or losing until the results of who won are posted, this includes hiding it for the people involved in the battle.

I've actually suggested that a couple of times in the past. Good to hear you're for that now. That's a really good idea.
I'd STILL say make comments visible AFTER the vote too though.
I disagree people aren't influenced by others comments, I disagree people aren't influenced by how others crits, you can look at a LOT of battles and see that they are. Also, just little things like, "Man, I'm losing now" or stuff like that influence the vote.
I know I myself have pre-read comments before voting and criting it's influnced me one way or the other or made me think about something differently then I would have and I change how I feel about it... and I hate that I have the option to do that. It's good to read others views, but AFTER the vote.

I have a really strong opinion about comments and crits... I really, really wish no one could read comments on a battle until they've voted!

I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to have the comments on a fight not be visible until you've place your vote and then you can give your comment on what you thought worked and what didn't and all that.
If you read peoples comments, they almost always reference other comments that have previously been made. Their crits are often, "Like so and so said..." or "I agree with so and so..." plus the comments and crits very, very often influence the vote. It's dumb and unfortunate that that happens but it doesn't change the fact that it does.
All the well wishes before a fight starts, such as "Good luck!" and "Woooo!!!" don't really need to be read by EVERYBODY just the artists so that shouldn't be a problem.

Previous behavior on the site will most likely play a part in Toast's decision too.

Lol. Don't worry, I'm not applying for it.

I think maybe I'm reading this different then everyone else... You're saying you're definitely going to turn in something complete this round, but if you win, you want to drop out of the tournament without Luna getting a loss. Right?
If that's what you're asking, you shouldn't be allowed to do that. Nothing against you though. I really like your Luna comics.

Squid- Your banner is SO AWESOME!! I really really loved it. It has such an innocent Sunday comics old school feel to it.
It looked good before the color but it's really beautiful with Angie's coloring. And thanks a lot for putting the sheep in haha.

Zsa- Wow that's amazing. You've gotten stupid good.

Toast- Thanks for answering my question. The scar in mine was the C-scar yeah. I just threw the baby in too as a plot point and something to work with if he wanted to. I kinda didn't think it was confusing really but I guess I was wrong. I have to try extra hard to be clever or funny or stand out because I average so low and am pretty unpopular and not very well liked. In this case it backfired but it still seems dumb not to follow the rules.

Fantastic round 1 everybody, and thanks for the awesome match carlito! I hope i did chia right by your standards.

It was awesome! I really liked it and dug the fight scenes and the humor... and it was a real honor to fight you. Seriously one of the top 5 favorite Chia-Hui battles. Thanks for that and give em hell the rest of the way thru.

P.S.
I hope you don't mind me borrowing Copper Mouth for my next few BB's should I choose to keep going

Carlito, thanks for your question... you asked a toughie, but I'm not considering this an invalid question. This isn't the place for this discussion though, so Kuro and Carlito, if you'd like to continue this can you please do it privately?

No problem.
I wasn't trying to start nothing when I asked it anyway. I was just asking a question.
Thanks for being cool Red.

Oh and for the record, Angie hasn't recently accused me of anything that I know of.
I was referring to the past.

She and I are cool now I think. I just wish all that stuff would go away... but such is life.

When did I claim I was 12?! And I don't have one single banned account, not one! Get your facts straight dude. You and Angie are hilarious with your cheating accusations that are totally and completely untrue and that you guys have spread and that YOU continue to spread! But your continuous false accusations make my valid questions about how stuff is run here invalid I guess? That makes no sense to me.

Carlito, if you're really that interested in getting some scars, why did you duck those challenges I sent to you a while back? haha

Haha. It's been a while but I'm pretty sure those were 10 page 1 week deathmatch challenges you kept sending me. lol.

I'd scar-match you though. Let's do it! I know you have a problem not finishing anything you do... but it shouldn't matter against me. You probably don't have to make the page limit that we set on it OR actually even draw a scar and you'll still win. I look forward to it.

You really want that win don't you carlito? does it matter anyway?

on one side, people like the other comic better, thus the vote speaks- but yeah, that rule gotta be more specific but if you wanna speak loopholes, it never state anything about being "comparable to a default" thus the win 'automatically have to go the other opponent'. None.

Void rules are not perfect, so there bound to be some error. so chalk this as the first problem of its kind  that you bring the loophole up to the table, so the rules can be changed to be more specific. Then move on.  But I really hope you're not THAT petty that you're still jonesin' for that win after all these months... cause damn.

edit: spelling

I asked again because I never got an answer, but the rule is still there and it bugs me...

I let the 2 months go by without pressing it because Toast sent me a PM that said he would ban me from battling if I continued to question stuff... I love it here, I didn't want to not be able to battle so I shut up...

but I don't like the politics and double standards and really want to know the answer to having rules but not following them... be it a scar-match or not finishing a battle with 3 page limit but still winning or having 2 dead characters get resubmitted and approved but we can't have a SRT or whatever it is...

and if I get banned for asking I don't really care anymore I guess.

Oh, and I wasn't trying to start drama I was just asking a question... asking a valid question or a tough question of the person in charge shouldn't be a drama starting issue.

I have a question for Toast: I was recently in a Scar-Match and my opponent gave no scar.
Why, when that is against the rules, did the win not go to me automatically?

I asked this in PM's but you didn't answer me, and I'd really like to know.
Plus if the rules for that have changed, and you don't have to scar your opponent in a scar-match (which seems really, really dumb), then why hasn't it been changed in the FAQ on the main site?

 "Scar Match:
In a Scar Comic you must leave a mark or a wound on your opponent's character. If you lose a Scar Comic, you will not be able to participate in any further comics until you update your design images to depict the new scar wound. Please keep this in mind: Do unto others as you would have done to you. Please try not to be outlandish or over the top. The purpose of this comic type is to leave your mark, not to embarrass or change your opponent's character completely. Scars should be discussed among artists before the match is agreed to, so that there are no feelings hurt and no arguments after the fact on what is acceptable or not. If you agree to this match, and participate in it, you are bound to illustrate whatever the outcome produces, win OR lose. If you feel you are not willing to change your character in any way, DO NOT enter a Scar match. The standard voting period applies."

What are the point of "rules" if they aren't followed and the complaints are only listened to if it's the right person complaining?

Not really, Dure could get it in a few battles, if Orange gets far he'd net it :D. Drastic could get it pretty easily if that slacker would battle more than like 3 times a year. If any of those guys won the tournament overall not only would they end up with the #1 spot but they would also have the fancy pants Heavy Weight Champ title. Yes, I am trying to light a fire under you guys' asses so we can see some amazing comics.

I'm pretty sure Ponbiki is like 1 win away from number #1 with Estrella
and Rtv! is like 4 wins away with Rtv!
Not to mention if P2 has a battle again, win or lose he takes the top spot back...

I'm SUPER EXCITED for this tournament though!! Especially for Sheldon, Jho & One Dark Knight!

This is the Post-it note fan art jam. It's pretty self explanatory: Fan art on post it notes... any size Post-it note is probably fine, just draw em up on whatever Post-it pads you have around. They're quick and easy, and you can do them anywhere even at work (like I did)!

Sometimes these Art Jams start a little slow with the participation, so I'll give the artist of my favorite entry 5 Post-it fanarts of their choice drawn by me (If you want someone I already drew, I'll draw a new an different one of that character). Deadline is Feb. 27th!

Looking to Scar match with Katinka (http://entervoid.com/character/1259), 3-4 weeks.  Any takers?

I'd do the scar match... but I have a battle going on another site this month... wanna do it in March?

There's no shortage of people who want to appear on this, so I imagine we'll have a guest every time  ;)

Count me in as someone who'd really like to do it!

I really liked this one, it was super fun to listen to and I really look forward to listening to these as often as you can make them. It's cool listening to people you kind of know but don't know, talk about comics and their art and process and I had never had a chance to hear the old version and always wished I had.
