THE INCUBATOR / Re: SilverBlaze's Incubation pod
« on: Sep 12, 2018, 11:17 PM »
Time to get this show back on the road!
I'm getting Pichi Kean back up to speed and I'm going to be submitting her in by the end of the month!
That's my goal! >:U

Anyway. To start things rolling again, I'm going to post in the character information I have.

As you can see, Pichi's ref sheet is not quite finished. I have a few things left to do with it, but it's pretty close to ready.
That ref looks pretty good, though when doing the ref for submission you may want to Pichi Kean on top since people may think that top design is the character they would be drawing. Other than that it looks pretty complete, hows the intro pages looking?

I’d like to emotionally torment ArtsAndGoodies, if he’s up for it.
Awesome I welcome it, sides the idea of a 1 weeker is a scary prospect as well but I still need to go for it.

While Harlow wouldn't dress up like this himself I would hope someone fashion forward would be able to put him in this outfit cause putting Harlow in a dress is super cute.

New here? / Re: INTRODUCE YOURSELF
« on: Aug 14, 2018, 08:41 PM »
Heyoooooo! I'm Jay- Imma' looooong time lurker, been wanting to join since like....2006? But honestly, I was young and dumb and not entirely confident in my art skills at the time. Friggin' 12 years later Void came up in recent conversation with friends and I figured I'd give it a shot this time around. I'm looking for some hardcore critiques to push myself and better my art further! <3
Welcome back and good luck, look forward to seeing your art and make sure to stop by the discord as that is very active and the best place to get quick crits on your stuff, though discord is not good at keeping stuff archived so having an incubator thread will be good for that as well.

The prospect of one week terrifies me as I struggle with 4 weekers and getting around 4-5 pages but I need to try this. I work full time but would like to screen share on google share and discord is by far the best way to contact and keep in touch with me. I use all digital and currently using clip studio. I get off work at 8 PM EST monday- wednesday, I have thursdays off, get off work Friday 6 PM, and Saturdays 3 PM

I will be aiming for 2 fully inked pages. So my focus would be on need helping making construction of characters; which i'm terrible at doing consistently, and have no idea what I'm doing when I break down characters into shapes or how to really apply that. however I have managed to salvage that but I end up making it worse with my inks which are also really bad. So the main things i need help with are inks and construction and lines of action. The things I need the least help with are writing and layouts (only because I constantly redo them so I will need help anyways since I know I need to redo my writing a couple times or at the very least the dialogue). while i do also really need help with coloring and shading it's not feasible to try and do that in this time for me. I'm also super slow so really i would like ways to do my stuff smarter since I feel like a lot of what I do is just really inefficient.

For mentors Heathen and Jiisuri both have inks I like but I'm so poor with them pretty sure any mentor can help level up my stuff.

That's pretty interesting, are you going to do your comics in the pixel format as well? I look forward to seeing the storyboards and sketches for that.

Harlow sounds something like Edward Elric from Full metal alchemist though maybe a bit more posh and less yelly most of the time. though a future power up Harlow may be becoming the Fur Metal Alchemist.

I am interested in this, however i'm not yet currently in a battle, but I would like scheduling advice for my next battle. However I do also work full time so that's 40 hours a week of working so i don't get as much time to do art as some people on the site so i'm curious how that would factor into your formula.

I'm looking for a 4 or 5 week match for Harlow. This is just my first match and I'm aiming to actually be able to complete a 5-6 page comic in that time which is a lot for me since i'm still learning and slow and also work full time.

We can't all be wizards. Harlow is just a muggle cat.

The new outfit looks spiffy! Can't wait to see more from this one, and I hope Yale gets in sometime too!
Thanks and eventually I will bring Yale back, but i think i needed to change gears and try something very different.
I am almost done with Harlow's refsheet and I think I will make his last name Ironlocke. I also started scripting out the intro story.

I figured out his outfit and stlye as well as his gun.
I also have ideas for his intro story so i'm going to start doing that as well as getting him a better pose for a ref sheet. also I'm guessing i should add close ups of his prosthetic hands on the ref. As well as a name for him.

Declines are generally not due to concepts and I can think of no exceptions.  Personally I'd like to see you tough it out with the previous dude.  Changing the concept won't really change what you need to do in the end but if you feel this is what you need to do in order to give it your best effort, then I'll respect that.

My hope for you was that you'd view your previous attempts as a storyboard and work off that to refine your vision.  As people we tend to fall into the sunk cost fallacy, where we think we have to sink in more time to get rewarded in the end.  If something is not working, scrap it.  Look at it with fresh eyes.  Everything you do is just a step towards getting better and pursuing your goals.  In the end, drawing more will only help you.
the sunk cost fallacy is partially why i want to try making another character instead of using Yale again. Also a lot of the things I learned were technical things that I will be able to apply to any future projects and all the critiques have been really good. I have enough random character ideas I am fine moving onto a new one. Though I may also revisit Yale at some point.
I also wanted to change since I do want to try drawing an anthro characters since I'm furry trash . Animal anthro faces is something i wanna get better at drawing so making a character is a good way to get better at them.
