GO FOR BROKE! / InkyBrain's Sandbox
« on: Mar 09, 2021, 04:27 PM »
My little sandbox of Void-related (including potentials) art, designs, and characters.
*Made a new thread since I couldn't find my old one.

+ Lovechild 2021
Strigoi; tournament collab w/ Kubo
First on the chopping block, is a feature of the concept and design work I did for my collaboration with Kubo in the first round of Lovechild 2021.
Making up a series of varying designs for a multitude of monsters ended up being a lot more work than I anticipated. While I for some reason have much less issue drawing creatures than I do humanoid characters, developing unique monsters, all different with few reoccurring themes was a challenge. Nevertheless, I'm quite happy with what I was able to make in the given time. Though intending to have general design sketches for every single monster, I decided instead to focus what little design time there was on the primary beasts: Demon Strigoi, Curse-bite Monster Strigoi, and Reverse Curse Monster Todd.

Demon Strigoi: I wanted to keep this design relatively simple in theme, something that struck the viewer as immediately "demonic" without being too standard either. Blizzard's Diablo game series ended up being an huge inspiration for this design, most especially for the hulking form as to showcase some range in Strigoi's transformation abilities. The colored head there was supposed to be for Curse-bite Monster Strigoi, but I felt it seemed more standard demonic, and thus applied it to that design instead.

Curse-bite Monster Strigoi: Although having a general idea of how I wanted this design to look, I played around with a few different ideas. Ultimately going with a fleshy tentacle monster, I had considered pressing some religious themes with more mystifying headgear (which I inevitably gave instead to Todd). The idea was for Strigoi's transformation powers (from Wendigo) to combat with Todd's curse, while that underlying and unknown presence of Emmelia's DNA did its "magic." This resulted in a form which not only took Todd's power, but adapted it into an even more utilizable ability, while still retaining some feral nature and a passive need to make MORE. Eventually, I fleshed out the design with something that wasn't too terribly strenuous to draw in multiple panels, but still embodied those traits.

Reverse-Curse Monster Todd: Wanting Todd's monster form to reflect Strigoi's while not appearing too similar, I stuck to the long-bodied build and slapped on 8 more arms. I really enjoyed this look because it felt more symbolic in nature than Strigoi's monster hivemind feel. I had planned to showcase a continued ability to utilize demonic magic and sigils, but the time crunch required some cuts. The head in particular both Kubo and I were quite pleased with, giving him a sinister animal skull feel as a nod toward one of his pops: Gold. I also really wanted to incorporate Todd's curse into the design, with a subtle reflection of his caring nature - hands grown onto his face in perpetual disdain. I wish I'd managed to render that look a little more naturally, but time again became a looming factor.

All-in-all, had a lot of fun with these designs, and working with Kubo was an incredible experience - he's been one of my favorite Void artists for a very long time, so the pleasure was all mine!

GO FOR BROKE! / Ink Spills - InkyBrain art dump
« on: Apr 06, 2018, 01:21 AM »
I still wanna stay active on here in some way, and not just in the Discord chat, so I'm gonna try and post some art stuff, focusing namely on themes relevant to the characters I have submitted, and any I intend to submit (currently one).

This is a commission, and I feel like the luckiest person in the world, getting to include my own character -- the Ozias Krane.
Who is the lovely lady, you ask? Well that'd be spoilers. But I'm beyond excited to get to draw and make up armor. This is actually a contribution of sorts to my original universe that in some distant, perfect future, I'll turn into a comic.

Anyone else suffering? My computer is completely fucked up, and I can't even get to a restore point. After a long work week, I guess there still won't be any digital drawing for me. *cry*

THE INCUBATOR / Man Meat
« on: Jun 15, 2016, 01:03 PM »
I realize I have no business considering submitting another character while I have a reboot in process, buuuuuuuuut...I can't help myself! You ever have one of those characters you made kind of on the fly, and they developed themselves slowly, and now they seemed to have engraved themselves deeply into your imaginative brain meats? Well for me, that's this guy:

Whereas most of my characters came from a long background of redevelopment, this guy, name being Ozias Krane, stemmed from a small fandom OC to this...dark history, pretty boy super soldier. I was thinking about the types of characters I don't really see here on Void, and he seemed to fit the bill. Where all the pretty boys at?!

Anyway, while being the shadow of 90s Brad Pitt in Fight Club, and a combination of masculine stereotypes involving quick to rage and arrogance, he's also an emotionally withdrawn mystery man who might win a gal's heart if only he weren't so eager to move on to the next big thing...I know, he sounds insanely original, amirite? But what I think makes Ozias unique to Void is his mostly human foundation. Everything about him stems from having once been entirely human, and so a lot of his internal conflicts are- to a degree- relatable.

It'd be a good way for me to practice varied styles, instead of regularly drawing the dark and grim monster world that Emmelia and Frank come from, no matter how much I will never grow sick of drawing them, which is why they would remain my primaries.

Any opinions? advice? suggestions? (aside from the ones I anticipate which are: STAY FOCUSED!)

GO FOR BROKE! / Return of the Bondage Monsters
« on: Jun 13, 2016, 01:14 PM »
Yeah, it's me again. Trying again. Looking for motivation again. Probably disappointing some few again.
Anyway, I'm rebooting this old account, with the help of some VERY awesome and VERY patient admins- thanks again, you guys!

To start with, here's the design sheet I'm updated for Frank and Emmelia, who will be haunting challenges shortly!

(Opening in new tab makes smol much big, but if there's a better way to post images without warping the thread, please lemme know!)

Featuring Dickbutt, because my boyfriend likes to draw stupid things when I leave images open for too long.

GO FOR BROKE! / Weird ass shit and junk.
« on: Jun 15, 2011, 01:06 PM »
'Cause weird ass shit and junk is all i really draw...so here's some:

I'll finish this eventually...or find a use for it in a comic.

This is a concept design for one of Frank's partially failed experiments; a poor female victim whose been fused with the parts of a dog. She don't work so good. :|

I know...anthros, right? I have to admit, i find some concepts interesting, when they're produced in a way that makes them look like actual animals; hence this purdy face. :>

This is a concept drawing i did for somebody, and i thought the idea was interesting. The bird head is supposed to be a Halloween mask.

Vent art. I also forgot the boning on that arm. I may introduce this character to Void some day, but that would require me to figure out what the hell is going on with her, and that i've been re-thinking for a while now.

Emmelia! :D -wearing some kind of "ultimate" suit. I'll finish this one eventually...sure.

I didn't want to stretch the thread page, so i just used a thumbnail with a direct link to the enlarged image for this one.

Frank, through the ages. I was going to add colors, but my abilities with coloring are so flawed i can't even stand to practice (hence is why i'm seeking higher learning: college).

GO FOR BROKE! / Infected and Unleashed.

I kept trying to come up with something clever here to say, but honestly...i've got nothing. On the bright side, we can get right to the interest part - THE ART!

While playing with the coloring potential on SAI, i discovered that it's an incredibly fun program to work with. I adored this end result-- not to mention Frank's scrumptious-ness.

I had an image in my head of my favored original character, Emmelia, recreated via a Resident Evil inspiration. Some people think it looks more Silent Hill, and one person said Hellraiser...which i think is silly.

See Frank, pre-mutation. A gruff, unpleasant looking man, who stole the uniform off a firefighter after strangling him to death. Such a charming homicidal maniac.

Speaking of charming, here's a festive image!

I'm really not a fan of typical T&A type stuff, but my lady friend here isn't either. This is just a quick sketch of a developing new character with some simplified, symbolic cuff tattoos. This one's a serial killer!

I think that's enough garbage for now.
By the way, i love social drawing such as programs like Open Canvas. It keeps my creative brain bits going, and i like to meet people who enjoy drawing the strangest things...like me! :D
