Flytee: daaaaamn Sunny's brutal! I don't feel like I have much to add that hasn't been said, but seriously, good job at getting all this work done in only a week. The story is solid, and the pages all feel complete--so, seriously, good job.

Fred: I also disagree with animations being "unfair", but that's maybe because after reading Homestuck, a few frames of animation in a comic doesn't feel too out of place. It's using the capabilities of the medium in a new way. And, honestly, there isn't really any information you'd lose if you were to just freeze the animation on any given frame. I would say maybe choose a different font for this sort of thing, because it wasn't exactly easy to read (for me at least), and maybe be aware of how fast the animations are--the last panel of page 5 is way too quick which makes it both hard to tell what's going on and also makes it kinda unpleasant to look at. Too much flashing too quick.

God, I love Sunny so much! And the way you wrote Ted had me cracking up! I love how you took advantage of Sunny being a toon to turn that metaphorical menacing aura into a literal cloud emanating from them. And Leandre showing up and being a Typical Teen was great, too. I guess I don't have too much to say in terms of stuff you could do better; this feels pretty solid imo! I guess your characters aren't always 100% on-model, but that's not something that really stands out to me as needing to be fixed. I just want to see more comics from you :D

You wrote "Whacky Races" instead of "Wacky Races." Everything else is perfect. And there's a good chance that was intentional and is also perfect, but it's really the only thing I could think of to nitpick.

I would play this game.

Flytee: I love what you did with Sunny, they're such a hateble character in all the right ways. Also 12 pages in one week is amazing you did a great job with that. I do agree with the crit that with your style i don't feel like enough is done to make Sunny feel like a toon.

Fred: 8 Animated pages is amazing, great job. I know nothing about animations so i have no crits i can provide.

It does in large part rely on past happenings, so a previous familiarity with her timelines would probably help.

Flytee: I sense a threatening aura-oh wait that's a visible phenomenon for toons! That "kill him" panel is classic. Gosh, you really made me feel bad for your opponents... Sunny is a real villain with a power complex. That said, up until Sunny stabbed Lucy, I wasn't really feeling their intensity. I felt it most when they were in school uniform, barely keeping it in. That's when they're the most interesting to me, but that's me.

Fred: Those daily animations have been paying off! Flashy! Stylish! Clear images! Thematically.... well, I guess it's relevant with a "60s racing anime" vibe? That said, it took a bit for me to realize what the different beats of the comic actually had to do with each other, or what Lucy's state of mind was. Is this one of those things where I need to read up on all her lore first?

i gave fred a bunch of points because i really enjoyed seeing all the animations and balked considering the workflow that must be built for them and i thought they were very fun, but a good bit of that is probably entirely because it's a novelty that no one else does. i cannot say if i'll rate the next comic, should they win, as high, just because i've already seen animations in a comic before, in this comic! that's the bit that's potentially unfair to me, even if i do not actually think it's unfair.

I am stunned by both of you guys work.

On the subject of "unfair". Get out of here with that. Comics is not a cut and dry format. Its sequential art, and Fred is merely using the fact that its a digital format to its fullest extent. It should be ENCOURAGED, not seen as a unfair advantage.

HOW ARE THESE WEEK LONG COMICS??

I am..I don't know whats in the air in 2020 but its apparently enhancing the community to bust out some serious bangers, hot damn. LOVE BOTH OF THESE. From the animation of a manic madmax nightmare to some serious toon hijinks gone bad. You've both left me seriously unsure as to who was the favorite. Congrats on making your viewership have the intensely difficult task for voting for these XD

Thank you darlings, I appreciate the reception. Let me clarify something to help: I understand the concerns with the style of my comic, as I have had them in the past with others. However, ultimately, the action progresses along the page at the reader's pace, sequentially through space. A comic. Each animation is a single moment and simply serves to enhance the panels,  but the structure of panels and pages is intact. I could have chosen to put the attention on details or line work, and instead put it on motion as this is what I do most these days so it was easier for me than fully switching gears.still it is no different a value then a fancy rendering, simply less used. :3

Flytee - I hate Sunny, but in a good way. They’re such a little bastard and I enjoyed reading their inner monologue. I love how you wove Lucy into the story - I was initially wondering how on Earth you’d make her interact with a school student, but you made good use of her family and abilities to create the story. I liked her characterisation as well, I think it was a good death.

As for cons, with your style it’s hard to tell that Sunny is a toon, and if I didn’t have reminders like the teacher saying the black fog was a form of toon expression, I would have forgotten. Also Sunny always holds the knife upside down! The blade is always facing the ceiling or pointing away from the target. It’s only when they stab Lucy that it’s suddenly facing the correct direction.

Fred - Holy shit?? A fully animated comic?? How do you find the time and energy?!

Loved the black and red palette you used for the first and third pages, it’s very dramatic (and happens to be one of my favourite colour schemes, shh). The first panel on page 2 was my favourite, the light off the eyes and the road behind were just on point. Also enjoyed the glitching effect you used on Lucy as she woke up, that got more and more subdued as she calmed down.

This isn’t really a crit but... even though I was blown away by what you produced and ultimately gave you more points, I don’t think it’s a fair match. In my opinion animating the whole thing instead of a few motions/panels transforms it into a whole other medium, and it’s very difficult to make direct comparisons between different media. It’s like Symon says (badum tsh), how exactly do you rate a gif compared to a picture?

Flytee nice flow and character interactions! Though, I believe all of the opponents you are facing require a death dipiction.

Fred... Fred... Fred... this has always been an issue for the few comics I have voted on. The art is great and the story flows wonderfully... but how do you rate a gif animation like this against a stationary enemy entry? The grading scale can't reach high enough!

Fantastic pieces all around good luck!
