Let’s see if I get this critiquing thing right.

Sabulive: I liked this one a lot better than your last one. I thought it was good choice to bring squiggums on as a third wheel. I think you adapted the personality and design quite well, the cat design reminded me a bit of monster hunter cats and I thought it worked well. I thought the plot was very clear on this one, and I think it was interesting to add a father figure to squiggums. I think the most important thing you did though was use squiggums as character foil to reveal the feelings of both dear heart and Wes. To do that in so few pages is really quite a masterful approach to the concept of pitting collaborative characters/stories together. In this way you killed squiggums less by death by monster, but more so by decreasing audience interest in who he was because you used him to strengthen interest towards dear heart and Wes. Yet squiggums still got plenty of screen time and even some hijinks. Too bad you have to quit.

Sunrise: RIP squiggums. I thought it was such a clever entry into a tourney involving so much death. Better luck next time.

I keep going back to panel with Wes face and his expression as he watches Squiggums die off screen before running away. That hanging moment, that stillness to witness as something horrendous goes down was so well executed. Nice jorb.

Sunrise - Awwww, I was looking forward to yours the most this round! :(
But stuff happens and that's just the way.

Sabu - I liked this one even more than your one on the last round! (maybe because I wasn't flashed this time, lol)
Your lineart is gorgeous on almost every panel and I liked the way you drew Squiggums. I think it was awesome how you really showed us what kind of people your two characters are in this comic, they didn't feel very characterized in the previous one and you really stepped up your game here. it was really satisfying when Wes walked away from Squiggums getting eaten. What a villain! I wanted to scream at him through my screen!
Also having the cutest of things destroyed by the ugliest of things was kind of a cool dynamic and I thought it looked cool.
I'm excited to see what happens with these two in your next one, it looks like Dearheart is kinda on a bloodlust so maybe your characters will end up having to kill each other while killing your next opponent!? :0 I DON'T KNOW!
I don't have any negs that haven't been said by others. Excited to see your next battle for sure.

Sunrise - Sorry life got to you my dude :( ngl I am kinda sad you dropped out though, FIGHT ME AGAIN IN OCTOBER!!

Sabu - Gorgeous art as usual, horrifying monster (which I loved), great movement and expressions... yeah honestly can’t find fault with the art, it looks amazing. Being in black and white doesn’t feel lacking to me with the strategic splashes of red and spot blacks.

The plot feels kinda contrived though? It just seems like a really weird thing to do, asking strangers for help out of nowhere. The comic felt like it hadn’t ended, it didn’t feel like a cliffhanger either. Also, Squiggums was super cute and translated well into your style... but here I consider that a bad thing, since she’s a toon and should stand out as a separate, unique element amongst the characters and environment.

Squiggums, noooooo! (both in the sense of "Oh, how sad Squiggiums' demise was!" and "oh, too bad we didn't get to see Squiggums' side of things; I was really curious how Dearheart and Wes would look in the Squiggum aesthetic)

Oh, wow, Sabu, what a story you're weaving about your pair using these matches! In a kinder world, Dearheart would have made a charming new friend, but it could not be.  Man, Wes is... colder than we thought. I really can't wait to see where this narrative goes. The art is excellent, of course, communicating the creepy and the emotional very well.

Thank you all for the wonderful comments. I appreciate all of them which makes this bit a bit harder to say lol

I also have to drop out of the tournament; shenanigans have been happening at my workplace which leave me too tired too work afterwards, and frankly, at the end of this round i had a p bad anxiety attack that I do not want a repeat of.

So I got to take my leave, sorry to blue balls the story, Wes and dearheart would have smooched in the end :,(

i'm a simple man; when i see a comic that features both cute friendship bonding and cool monster designs, i give it a like. very good!! you're using squiggums both to develop dearheart & wes' world and complicate their relationship and it feels pretty tight! shame sunrise couldn't finish their comic, but this is still a very worthy sendoff.

This was VERY good.
The arts super clean and expressive, straight up wouldn't look out of place in a published comic. The flow of the story and action was well-paced and the big beats towards the end had an impact. Squiggums death was legitimately upsetting...so, Well done there!

Honestly, I wasn't super drawn to these guys at first- but seeing the clashing of ethics between them/ Dearhearts softer side, has got me really invested in their story.

God, what a way to go! I'm loving these characters more and more! Dearheart is such a sweetie, and Wes is such a dick, it's a match made in heaven haha. I don't really have any critiques for you, so I'll just say that I loved this comic and am looking forward to where their story goes!

Sunrise: Sorry to hear about the RL stuff but that does come first and wish you the best. Squiggums is a great character and would love to see some BBs with her in the future.

Sabu: Wes is a real asshole and I'm enjoying it. The story you did was really good and you made this slightly more pencil style work well. My favorite thing is how you draw squiggums, while it's not a toon style it's a very good anthro style. My only minor crit is I don't like pencil borders for the panels, since it's in the same style as the rest of the comic some of the panels don't have as clean a divide as they could with a pure solid panel. Though this only comes up as a minor issue on pages 3 and 4. Besides that great comic.

Sunrise: Im really sorry to hear that. RL always comes first but it really sucks having to deal with that stuff. Squiggums was adorable but Im excited to see what you do next!

Sabulive: Damn, I am learning to both love and hate your characters, and that's a good thing! I'm very excited to see how this story progresses into the next round. I'm bummed to see that you dropped the Toon style for Squiggums but I understand the challange of translating such a unique style into your own. You're character development is great and you have solid control over the flow of dialogue. I am scared to go up against you! Good luck!

Sincerest apologies for the no show. At the tail end of last week the house I was trying to purchase got dropped, so I had to deal with solicitors, housing agents, all that bullshit. Then as if that wasn't enough I've been sick with the flu last three days. Absolutely gutted that Squiggums had to go like this but that's life I guess. Once again I'm really sorry.

On to your comic though, that was amazing! Your linework is absolutely fantastic, as are your compositions and scene choices. The recording Squiggums did at the start cracked me up. Really cool ship designs too, though they seemed a lot bigger on the inside? The monster design was horrifying and well designed. Was it fused to the deck of the ship? Or could it move? Very touching with Dearheart, I'll miss Squiggums as well ;_;7 RIP
