Back in January, I put the call out to a number of people to create new banner art for VOID's upcoming design. The message below is that original email, and I now extend that request for art to the community as a whole:
I'm currently well into development of VOID version 5.0. The big change this time around will be the unification of both the forum and main site into a single entity (along with a whole slew of other stuff). No longer will the site be two separate logins, layouts, or designs, but everything under one roof.
Another piece of the redesign will be to bring the rotation of header art back to the main site. We've had Andre's pretty face on the main site for all of 4.0, but it's time for something new. Unfortunately, (or fortunately, depending on your opinion of the current crop) the current header art on the forum can't be used due to the new site being wider, and the fact that the VOID crest will be laid on top of the headers.
The specs for the new headers are 990px wide by 200px tall. However, please be aware the crest is 300px by 200px and will take up the rightmost area. It's more-or-less an oval, so the crest will not take up the entire 300x200 rectangle. Examples of the layout and crest placement on existing headers are linked below for additional clarification.

In each of the examples, the crest now covers an area of art... not acceptable.
"VOID" or "EnterVOID.com" are optional. It's unnecessary to include "Impact is Immenent" or the VOID logo. Also, do not include the crest, as this is a separate file that will be floating above the header image.
Please send any completed art back to me. Color is preferred, though you may send pencils or inks if you prefer someone else to color. Secrecy is not necessary, as any finished art may be posted to your individual websites.
I'm sending this email to some of my closest friends and greatest artists VOID has produced. If you're able to contribute once again to a community that still loves you, you'll have my eternal thanks. If not, that's perfectly understandable.

Just a question that occurred to me, so since the forum and site will be one unity what will happen to the banners we have now? I feel that it would be a shame to lose them and hope that they will remain viewable in some capacity.

I wasn't sure on the exact location of where Squid wanted the sheep but this should have him peaking from around the corner of the Void crest

I kept trying to do big exciting group pictures but figured trying to have a little vague story going on was more up my alley. The Void crest will of course be covering up a lot of the right side of the image so I didn't exactly go out of my way to make a gorgeous city scape haha

Squid- Your banner is SO AWESOME!! I really really loved it. It has such an innocent Sunday comics old school feel to it.
It looked good before the color but it's really beautiful with Angie's coloring. And thanks a lot for putting the sheep in haha.

Zsa! Questions! I think I figured out most of the characters except for maybe three on your banner, the chick to Dandy Dan's right, the sword chick in the background and the cowled character above OSBot. Who are those three?

Will, in order, if I got it right, haha, the chick is Airlight's Robert, the sword chick is the Princess from last year's Arma, and the other dude is Dan. That one was hard because Dan never sticks with a single design, so I used the one I battled him with.
Also I noticed a flaw in my own banner which is the abscense of GVSR, but I think I'll leave it like that since he defaulted on me anyway, ahaha.

The first word is written a bit wonky, but still mostly recognizable as a "Jia" (which translates into a "Chia") and the last word is definitely a "Hui". 嘉辉.

Concerning the new ponbiki banner: is it just me or did it not get set up properly? pon's poking out of the bottom a bit, it'd look better if he was higher, just like in the crop angie did.

Pyras, I REALLY like that third banner you did. Nice choice of colors! My main concern with the banner was the alignment- but I tossed it into PhotoShop real quick and it actually looks pretty sweet with the logo on there. However it does cover up a lot of that blood spatter you got goin' on. You may wanna double check it yourself to make sure that's what you want.
And I gotta agree, try to keep your posts in the thread they most belong. We'll see your work when it goes up, no need to spam. :)

Yeah that was the first thing I had in mind when I was working on it (the alignment). I ultimately decided that the entervoid logo would be a great foil to the eagle logo on the other side and I could live with the tomato juice being hidden by it.

yeah, it's a panel from a comic but I put enough effort into the coloring so yeah. I'd had some downtime which is totally unheard of for me now so I figured I'd color a random panel and the size was good for the banner.

I like how when we're open for taking banners, we don't really get many, but when we're temporarily not taking them everyone is dying to do them. If you're dying to do one, you can bare minimum draw the idea out! It's unlikely that the banner size will be significantly different.

To be faaair, one of my first posts after I got accepted was asking if I could do banners, and dude was like NOPE cause restructuring visuals. So I've been dying to do some pretty much since I joined :D
I want to do my banners like, semi-realism, which takes a while to paint out, but I guess I could prep the sketches for now ^.^

Make 'em bigger than the current ones. Then there's no way they CAN'T fit. Just create a banner at the current dimensions, but with 0.5 inches of bleed on the edge.

I think I finally have some specs for 6.0 banners, but I'd like to consult the rest of the staff first. I'll let you know as soon as it's finalized!
In the meantime, 6.0 is still a ways off, so I think it's fine to submit some banners now if you feel like it. Just know that they may not make it to the next iteration of the site. :(

That's sweet, Rob! But for 5.0 banners, the width is actually supposed to be 990px, which is just 90px wider than the one you posted! I could Photoshop it, but I'll bet you'd do a better job since you have the original. :)

Just wanted to note, since it just recently came up as a topic of discussion among mods, that any banner that has "questionable" or NSFW content will not be used. If you noticed that you haven't seen some particular banners in a while, this is the explanation.
Sorry to be a bummer, but the reasoning for this decision is part of an effort to make a better first impression among new members. We aren't trying to hide the fact that we have NSFW content in the comics we make, and I'd never try to censor comics. Banners are not comics and not every single one will be used. NSFW stuff isn't everyone's cup of tea, and I don't want it slapped right in your face the very first time someone visits VOID. Again, not trying to hide that we have adult content here, it just doesn't need to be in the banners. It's also an attempt to make at least browsing the forums, or even just logging on to check your scores, safe for work.
If you aren't sure if your idea for a new banner is safe for work or not, just ask.

And if you really want NSFW banners, I'm working on a feature for 6.0 where you can replace all of the faces in the banners to dicks.

6.0's gonna take forever to come out because the guy working on it plays too many video games and has a busy enough life even without them. What a dick.

The current "temporary" banner is 2300x150px. I don't know what Kevin's plan is on this, but I think we can safely start accepting some new banners. I'll tentatively say yes, but let me email Kevin just to make sure. They could potentially be as wide as you want them to be, but if anyone has a larger screen they'll just repeat. I don't know how many people are going to have a screen wider than 2300px right now, though.

I'm going to lock this thread and start a new one... eventually... but for now, just a heads up that if you're making a repeating banner like most of the ones we currently have, you only need to post a single repetition. The site is set up to automatically tile the image so it will repeat automatically as long as your image is set up to repeat.
