Saywhatnow? What is this?
It's a Death Tournament! Not just any... Death Tournament!, but the fastest one yet! A nice bonus warmup for the beginning of the year, the Light Speed Death Tournament is a new twist on our already blazing fast Speed Death Tournament!

What even makes this different?
Timeframe! We got one week rounds! I know that you're thinking...

Aren't SDT rounds one week anyway?
They ARE! A week of drawing, a week of voting. But that's not what I'm talking about. I mean the Drawing AND voting takes place over a week! 4 days of drawing, 3 days of voting! Can YOU handle the extreme crunch time? This is a special tournament that we can get done within a month! Crazy eh?

What...? Is this an official thing?
Look at you asking all these questions like it isn't. Of course it is! HURRY UP AND MAKE SOMEONE!

So... what should I enter?
Anything! But in the spirit of the tournament, I encourage you to make the design QUICKLY! First thing that comes to mind, a lot like a recent Art Jam I made.

There was a method to the madness, I wanted people to get a little taste of the mindset we're encouraging with this! Make anything you want! But most of all, MAKE IT QUICKLY!

That's stupid. But what do I need to to do to enter?
Be registered on the site. Be a member, new and old are welcome here! Remember that you will have to submit the character through the site before the tournament starts. And since only one person is walking out of this alive no intro pages are needed! You've basically done an intro comic by the time the first round happened anyway!

Are there any rules to this thing? (Partially stolen from Pyras' last tournament announcement. It's a good format.
Along with regular rules of the website:
So when you're uploading, you should only upload up to page 3. Three pages only. (There's a comic lower in the post explaining exactly what a page means with your 3 page limit.)
   Signups begin: RIGHT NOW! January 3rd!
Signups END: REAL SOON! January 13th! (That's only 10 days people!)

We're looking to start with at least 8 people. Shooting for additional multiples of 4. We're gonna try and fit everyone who enters into it in those multiples.**

Round one begins: January 17th! (To give the mods some time to vote on people and arrange rounds. Might be a little signup leeway in those 4 days if you turn in something cool!)

**As we said before, while 8-12 contestants was going to be the target selection, there is a chance it could rise based on demand. Oooooh boy, 16 makes an even bracket. But, can we get more?

Okay people! Submission time is upon us. If things go well, we're gonna hit 32 people. That's a pretty good cap size for this. Otherwise, we'd need 64 people for a bracket. So now is the time to submit your character on the site officially.

What you need to do is:

1. on the top bar of the site, click Manager!
2. in the Character section of your manager click "Create a Character"
3. Fill the information in. Bio, height, sex (or lack of/undefined).
4. Your icon needs to be 50x50.
5. If you do not have an intro, which you don't need, you just put your design sheet into the design sheet, page 1, and page 2 sections.
6. Click submit character.

Now, submissions are Due the 13th. BUT, there's like 4 days before the tourney starts, so there's a little leeway if you're concerned. The Tourney ACTUALLY starts ON the 17th. So if you have trouble getting in or don't understand the process, use tha ttime to get it figured out, to gather your supplies, and get your ducks in a row.

Well look at that, 32 people. By this point, there will likely be a selection vote to keep it an even bracket. Sadly. If it was a longer deadline, perhaps we could wedge the extra into one of the rounds, but with 4 days, it's tough to expect someone to be able to build a 3 for all battle. We'll see what happens! Don't forget to submit!

News Update: Jan 13th

BONUS ROUND!!!

Interesting news people! Around this point we apparently have 41 entries in!

We still wanna start this coming Sunday, the 17th!

So we have a potential situation here. If we get enough people for 48 ENTRANTS then we can have the same amount of weeks as the 32 set, everyone gets in, and we get an interesting new final round. We're at around 41, so we're only a wafer thin 7 away!

Final round would be a 3-for-all. Full week, which is a whole lot of time to this point, and the gloves come off and you can submit as much as you want! (Also a full week of voting, but what can you do?)

And the plus to all this? It only adds 3 days drawing time to the tournament! All the comics are done around the same time! So everyone would get in and it hardly disrupts the current tourney schedule!

Now this is potential, but if we can fill out to 48 by this FRIDAY THE 15th! then we might have this oppertunity for the first 48 entrant tourney in about... 5 years I believe! Tell your friends, tell everyone!

Make this tournament EVER BETTER!

Sallivun is a giant japanese salamander. (His parents screwed up the birth certificate.) He spends most of his time making lovely pottery with whatever intense flames he can create. Due to his ability to have a constant hands on nature with his work, he creates fantastic, impossible pieces of art. How does he do it? A lot of wood, a lot of fire, and a natural resistance to the very element he's working in. Sallivun makes a surprisingly comfortable living for himself despite his age. With time, he could become a real artisan in his field.

In the late of the night, he is seen skulking about the slummier parts of town, looking for the next building to help fuel his art. Sally is a little bit of an arsonist and sneaks around in his various favorite flame-retardant face-mask hoodies. Not that he's worried about getting burnt. He's immune from the inside and out of course! Being a salamander, Sally would be just as home swimming through a cool river as he would a lake of magma. He just prefers not being naked when walking back from burning buildings down. He's very careful to never burn a place that has people in it, he's looking to produce intense heat and make art, not hurt anyone.

However, that's not to say that he can't fight. Being such a little guy, it's easy for people to think they can pick on him. While he hasn't found his confidence yet, at his core he is a naturally talented fighter. He can start a spark with the naturally producing and HIGHLY flammable slime-oil he secretes (he even leaves a little trail behind him when he walks!) and cause big explosions. Not that it bothers him, but it's usually enough to scare off anyone who's trailing him.

Sally loves to collect match-books. He has a great little collection.

Dale is one radical dude! Just fresh into adulthood and he's out there to prove to his old man he isn't going to sit back and rot away like him. His father urges him to take over the family business of roofing and window installation, but Dale isn't about that bogus life. In a bold and rash decision, he has decided to join the SDT to show everyone what him and his skateboard are capable of! WOAH BODACIOUS!

*Important Characteristics* Dale only has one arm for radical gestures. He has a nose, no mouth. Dale is a pro skateboarder, but his father doesn't approve of his lifestyle. Dale can kick flip a 20 stair.

His advanced age and short stature hide a brilliant mind, and his cane gives him the ghostly summons that can do his bidding. Each spirit has a different ability depending on what King needs to execute his plan:

Pawns: multiple foot soldiers for a charging horde.
Rook: giant stone head for direct, brute force
Knight: horse-headed knight for jump strikes and air jousting
Bishop: militant bishop for fast, indirect strikes
Queen: almighty queen for massive area of effect damage

Has a love for complex plans and enjoys trapping his opponents 10 steps ahead.

Note: All chess spirits have a ghostly tail (except Rook, which is a floating head) and are summoned when King strikes the ground with his cane. Maximum summons are 8 pawns, one rook, one knight, one bishop, and the queen, all of whom can move freely. Game ends when King is defeated.

Pud is a little demon critter who grows stronger from absorbing lifeforce. The more living creatures he consumes, the bigger, stronger, scarier, ect. he gets. But right now he's just a tiny little imp critter since he hasn't gotten started on that just yet. His barbecue fork thing can be other utensils too, and he starts off at about two foot tall. Tiny devourer of worlds.

Once upon a time an evil Witch threatened the world.  And five girls of pure heart were chosen to fight against her.  A classic sort of story.  But after the final battle, no one returned except for one.  Stripped of memory, name and life, she became dedicated to one goal: To eradicate the existence of magical girls and fill the Infinite Wardrobe.  And so she hunts.

She's been alive for so long that she is something of an urban legend amongst Magical Girls.  But if she hunts her target, no one better get in her way!  She has access to the subspace pocket dimension known as the Infinite Wardrobe.  And each mask contained therein represents one of her victims.  For in order to steal the powers of magical girls she places a blank mask from the Wardrobe on her victim and it forcibly steals their powers.  The aftereffects vary from person to person but the experience is excruciating leaving the girls maimed or worse dead.

The masks have different personalities and talk to her.  Not much is known about this girl except she hasn't aged much and sometimes goes by M.

The design sheet has two examples of her most commonly used forms.

found some blu ray templates and for the sake of the joke I made a fake anime to go with my stereotypical transfer student protag. Also I tried to fit everyone that signed up so far on the back, some are very tiny - but I also needed to slot a balding Jpop in there since he is Ai's new teacher.

She hates hot stuff and is deadly afraid of fire.
If spooked, she will expels deadly poison gas that can explode if ignited.

ABOUT:
Gorgon is a monster girl that was born in a mysterious island called "Serpiente", where she was trained to fight since she was about 6 years old, now at age 14 she's pretty skilled in martial arts and was also trained to fight using a staff. She left the island a few days after turning 14, looking for adventure and new people to fight.

As a Medusa-type monster, instead of hair she has 5 living snakes on her head. She can use the "petrification curse" (turns people to stone) which is activated at will, but only twice a day. She's very strong (could lift a car with ease, more like a small one, like a VW beetle) and agile. The magic staff she carries is used for close range attacks and is also as a flame thrower (for long range attacks).

She's stubborn and hotheaded and enjoys getting into fights, she likes to travel around (if the place is interesting enough, she might stick around for a while) and her favorite food are mice and chocolate chips cookies. Gorgon doesn't care much about others, for a monster she's not completely evil though, she's a harmless bully, unless she finds you suitable for fighting, then she'll kick your ass.

Powers:
Despite his formidable Centurion Battle Armor, Jonos isn't much when compared to an actual Alpha Centurion but is still a scrappy and durable combatant compared to most humanoids. Being used to the heavier gravity of Alpha Centauri, he can take advantage of Earth and jump great heights and leap far distances.

Centurion BattleArmor is some of the most technologically advance fighting equipment in the Galaxy able to turn any wet-eared grunt of a solider into a formidable killing machine with proper instruction. Instruction that Jonos doesn't have but is confident he will learn as the throws of battle take him.

Personality:
Jonos isn't a people person. In fact he isn't even much of a Centurion person. Abrasive, obnoxious, and with the worse case of inferiority-superiority complex seen outside of most Video Game message boards, he is the personality equivalent of someone dunking a wet wad of paper towel into a occupied toilet stall. The only way you could build him up into something halfway decent would be to beat 12 flavors of #$%@ out of him. Twice.

-3 way final with LSDT 4 day deadline and limiters?
-3 way final with Full Week and the weights are off?

Either way, if we get 7 more people, that question doesn't matter. We got 3 (Kinda 6 if you are having trouble turning in) days people!

NEWS

Okay people! Submission time is upon us. If things go well, we're gonna hit 32 people. That's a pretty good cap size for this. Otherwise, we'd need 64 people for a bracket. So now is the time to submit your character on the site officially.

What you need to do is:

1. on the top bar of the site, click Manager!
2. in the Character section of your manager click "Create a Character"
3. Fill the information in. Bio, height, sex (or lack of/undefined).
4. Your icon needs to be 50x50.
5. If you do not have an intro, which you don't need, you just put your design sheet into the design sheet, page 1, and page 2 sections.
6. Click submit character.

Now, submissions are Due the 13th. BUT, there's like 4 days before the tourney starts, so there's a little leeway if you're concerned. The Tourney ACTUALLY starts ON the 17th. So if you have trouble getting in or don't understand the process, use tha ttime to get it figured out, to gather your supplies, and get your ducks in a row.

I love this character. I'm glad you're joining! You do not need intro comics for a Speed Death Tournament generally speaking and this is no exception. You just need to submit the character through the site using the Characters tab at the top and hitting Create a Character. As Angie mentioned some folks are having issues, so keep at it until it accepts.

Dyna has a special case on her hands with Tammy, whose parents very regularly want to be away from her.  As a toddler, Tammy knows much about the world, and unfortunately doesn't know very much about her own seemingly limitless powers.

From teleportation to flying, to making herself on fire or going invisible, Tammy seems like she's developing a new ability every day. Dyna, the poor soul, is tasked with dealing with all of these surprises as they come up. 

Tammy, boring of the constant annoyance Dyna causes her, has signed her up for the Light Speed Death Tournament without her knowledge. Then again, people dying around Tammy isn't exactly a new thing....

BONUS ROUND!!!

Interesting news people! Around this point we apparently have 41 entries in!

We still wanna start this coming Sunday, the 17th!

So we have a potential situation here. If we get enough people for 48 ENTRANTS then we can have the same amount of weeks as the 32 set, everyone gets in, and we get an interesting new final round. We're at around 41, so we're only a wafer thin 7 away!

Final round would be a 3-for-all. Full week, which is a whole lot of time to this point, and the gloves come off and you can submit as much as you want! (Also a full week of voting, but what can you do?)

And the plus to all this? It only adds 3 days drawing time to the tournament! All the comics are done around the same time! So everyone would get in and it hardly disrupts the current tourney schedule!

Now this is potential, but if we can fill out to 48 by this FRIDAY THE 15th! then we might have this oppertunity for the first 48 entrant tourney in about... 5 years I believe! Tell your friends, tell everyone!

Make this tournament EVER BETTER!

pretends he knows what's the series is all about.

On top of being a terrible lair, he's wears a mask because the artist does not want to draw mouths.
and he believes that it'll be easier character design for a comic maker to use, aspiring to be a manga artist himself.

George is a mad scientist inventor, hellbent on finding the perfect way to pick up with new machines and inventions. Bodot is George's glamorous assistant who mistakenly believes they'll be able to use George's machines with George out of the way. Unfortunately Bodot is only good at two things, and that is murdering (mostly murdering George) and using the George-erection machine when ghost-George's hauntings get too much and/or Bodot realises that Bodot cannot operate without George.

Would it be possible at all to have this tournament start on a Wednesday or Thursday? That way we get at least part of the weekend to do each round. As a 9-5er that also teaches til 8pm mon-wed I feel this would be better as a lot of us are 9-5ers or students.

Or am I just being a weakass babby whiner?

She carries dual "mini-rex" 5.7mm chain guns loaded by a complex belt feed system discreetly hidden in the frame of her dress. She has also been known to carry a few "wildcards" up her sleeve when situations look dire. Her notable collar is semi-rigid body armor, as is her left arm "decor".

Kamden is an alien who is currently attempting to blend in as a human, despite not being particularly good at it but at least they've learned to hide their second set of arms. Kamden is significantly stronger than the average human and will eat anything available when hungry, including rocks, which doesn't improve their smell. They originally lived in a series of slightly radioactive caves under an abandoned mining colony on a distant moon.

Kamden finds humans fascinating but is unsure of how to communicate friendliness or any other basic interactions.

Just a reminder that all comics are reviewed by Actual Real Humans™ so if you don't play fair then your comic won't be posted and you'll receive a default. We'll use this as guide for page count!

Also, basic site rules say that you've gotta kill the other dude in a death match. So, if you are finishing your comic today and you realized just now that you didn't actually commit murder, you better scribble in a dead body at the end so you're at least qualified. If you don't have 3 pages and you don't kill your opponent, it's best to upload your comic at a later date as a beyond battle and save us the time of removing your disqualified pages.

Red, causing trouble again :\

Random question for participants: due to a clerical error (AKA Bobo), Mortido got passed by when setting up all the first round battles even though he should have been included. Since it would have been unfair to change the existing matches after they went up (which was before my mistake was pointed out), we've kept Mortido out of the running. However, I would like to propose that, in the case of a DOUBLE DEFAULT (both artists in a single match fail to turn in a comic at all), Mortido would take the place of the winner of that match and enter the tournament in place of the two defaulting artists.

That may put Choleric in at a later round than everyone else started at, which is totally unfair, but I'm just trying to see if I can repair the damage I caused and also prevent the headache of figuring out what to do if there's a double default.

Please voice your opinions here, in the chat, or anywhere where I will see it. If we get even just a few dissenters, we'll keep things the way they are, but if you're all on board with allowing our good friend Choleric to enter the tournament he was born to be in basically, I think this could be a good compromise.

Although I'd love to see him battle in this, if he enters the tournament late without really earning a spot by murdering people, wouldn't that be unfair? I guess the only way that would be ok is if he enters the tournament if there is a double default ROUND 1 and he draws some sort of 3 page comic as well? Maybe the comic could be about an awful clerical error. Hmm. I just don't want to see anyone enter late in a tournament without drawing comics.

If he is shoved in, he should be shoved in asap. It would be lame for everyone, including Eric who I'm sure wants to start drawing in this asap and not potentially later, so how about next round he takes the slot if there is a double default, OR if that doesn't happen then we ask for volunteers to do a 3 way with him for round 2. So he can still get in early and start killing people.
That way Eric can still try to murder his way to the top, which I'm sure is what he would prefer :) I've heard he likes killing fast.

This was one of the things we discussed for a good while. There has been a high demand to use brackets for a long time now, BECAUSE it allowed the building of hype and artists a chance to plan their narrative with future hypothetical matches, which benefits everyone as the end result should mean better crafted comics. Depending on how this tournament works with brackets, we may introduce it back into other future tournaments as well, but if a majority ever wants to return to random-each-round that is always an option.

I'm also personally against the bracket in a setting like speed death anything, but light speed, where it's 3 or less pages in 4 days, it feels like cheating ahaha.  Planning for one of two opponents is pretty easy, I can understand where it's come from, but I feel like it somehow kills the spirit of this specific event. I mean, in the 3 days it takes to vote, I could have thumbs and fully sketched pages for both possible opponents, and I'm nowhere near the fastest.

Other tournaments? I take less issue, but I totally looked at those brackets and went "man, there are so many people I won't ever get a chance to battle in this" and it tastes like defeat ):

P.S., I am down for a 3-way battle if I make it there

Ok I understand people being upset but lets be real, its a 40+ tourney,
if the mods need a bracket system, so be it.
I dont feel like anyone should be upset over it being in public.

Infact Public is nothing new. It's in actual sports and such.
Being able to prep ahead of time is something that teams do in world cups and playoff.
It's even in fighting game tourneys.
It's your responsibility to prepare yourself for the next battle.
 And you know what? Everyone in this tourney has this opportunity.
If anything the only thing that would suck is that there's a chance I wont get to fight a certain opponent.
Even without brackets there are a ton of people in this site that preplan and create ideas during the voting period.
I mean I don't see how it kills the spirit, quite the contrary,
I'd be hype to figure out how I would tackle the next possible opponent.

I don't like it being public it may work in sport but defeats the purpose (I believe) of this specific tournament because it's the whole thing of "you got 3 days...GO"

But I also don't mind how it is decided how we go about it if we keep it or not, I'm not against it all together just public - I'd respect whatever decision the powers that be decide.

Hello folks this maybe the first massive tournament you've experienced and it's possible that in three days you won't be able to read everything and that's /fine/ ! However it's important to read and vote on as many of these fights as you can. 24 fights means 48 or more votes and most tourney battles take 3-5 days to peak to the 50s. Despite being only 3 pages a lot of these comics had a lot of work done to them in such a short amount of time !

 So if you find a battle you're very sure about, vote on it as soon as you can ! We're truly fortunate to see a first round were virtually no one defaulted [Please get better Alberto !], and a Strong Start to a new year where short, concise battles are making a comeback !

Since there was no double default, we can do the 3-way so that Mortido can get in this.

So far, volunteers have been:
Puzzlething, Monday, Le Fred, Minteh.

To be fair, we could randomly choose the volunteers and switch the brackets up to include the 3-way, since there are 4 of you stepping up now.


As far as the brackets go, I've been reading the comments and chat and listening to the feedback. I know a lot of you like it and a lot of you don't. We're trying out something new, and really that's the only way to see if something will work out or not. Some of you have some good points, so now I am on the fence. I'll ultimately want what you guys want though. So, we will see how it goes :>

ooooooh, dang! I kind of assumed that Mortido would just be inserted into the current battle, but it makes more sense that you'd pull the volunteers.  Man! I really wanna fight Evi/Qyz, but I also really wanna fight Mortido HNNGH.  I'll leave it up because I do wanna 3-way, and if I take it back and no one else can fill the spot, that would suck (since I'm guaranteed through to round 2 anyways)

Oh! I hadn't realized the brackets were public. I guess my eye just passed right over that.

I was thinking if we were to tie, it'd probably be better to have another round instead of a 4 way finale which breaks the goofy meter.
