spit spat, time to chat / Re: Voider Webcomics
« on: Oct 06, 2015, 07:00 AM »
My writer and I started working together again last spring on a (luckily) failed pitch which is why I sorta ghosted on you guys, and then we spent the summer developing this guy: http://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/worldbreakers/list?title_no=9336, which updates every week! It's probably my favorite thing I've worked on, and it seems to be coming along pretty well!

Hopefully once I figure out time-management a little better I can get back into some Challenges here! I miss my ladies!

EDIT: Sidenote-- is anyone else on LINE Webtoon? It's a really great site for any indie webcomic artist, imo

Yeah I'm with Kaiser; hurry and get involved don't even take time to think about it! If there's one thing I've learned recently it's that this is an immensely accepting/involved community!
I'm jealous that you have friends in your town that actually know comics; I personally feel way behind the curve because for years I haven't had that. Welcome, friend!

THE INCUBATOR / Re: Kelsey Faunt is... "Hero"!

Sweet! This is so excitinnnng~
There was a huge part of me that was like, "ohlawd please don't garner any attention. you don't need to do this right now" XD I guess I need to practice not being stressed out when working on these!
Going to start the intro comic basically immediately.

THE INCUBATOR / Kelsey Faunt is... "Hero"!

So I'm really torn, and could also use advice from some of you who've been around a while. I really enjoy the adorable criminal girls, but I really want to work a character that allows for a different type of comic, that focuses a bit more on action and that can be written a bit more like a traditional superhero book of sorts. I dunno; how do members with more than one character balance that? Is having more than one even allowed?
Anyways:

Kelsey Faunts is about 14/15, and inherited the cosmically-powered "Hero Bracer" from her father (or something). It has a range of forms that allow for different things, but she's not nearly experienced enough to access each form (or something). She wants/tries to be a true superhero, but gets a bit in over her head frequently, just barely making it out of some situations alive etc.

7
Angie you are the professional here P: I'm gonna give this method a shot for my next challenge and see how it goes!
PS- How many hours a day do you typically color for?

8
I dunno; I feel like coloring isn't nearly as stressful as inking. Any prep-work you do to get ready for colors amounts to the same thing: time. If you're using Layers then you can either take the time to block out the coloring space (be that setting the area by way of clean lines + wand tool/ selecting the area, or erase the stuff that winds up outside the lines and it will all amount to the same amount of time in the end? Or am I missing something?
The real key is just using a separate layer and understanding that there's gonna be time involved in coloring.

when you're sitting around and accidentally think of a brilliant idea for a new character

and then you doodle some stuff up and woah-snap.

but you're p new, your current chars doing okay, and you really don't want people to rain on your parade

and then you accidentally spend a day drawing up the design sheet and it's even better than before

so now maybe it's time to take a second and think things through

Bunny-Girl wants in! And she'll make Duck-Girl help her, no doubt.

Hey Angie, this is simply incredible work. Sorry if this has been asked already (didn't read the whole thread) but I'm hecka curious.

What would you say has been the largest contributing factor to your vast improvements over the years? Is is just practice? Did you find some special little tricks here or there? Stuff that worked for you?

Just looking for tips, since my work has improved at an incredibly slow rate over the years, while yours has improved by leaps and bounds!

So impressed; and doubly so that, with all of the work you have, you're still taking the time to keep this site in order! :D

New here? / Re: INTRODUCE YOURSELF
« on: Jan 02, 2015, 09:09 AM »
OHAY I never did take the time to do this O: Better late than never though, right? And I guess since I've been crazy over-active lately, I should explain!
My name's Justin, and I've been drawing for way too long (so long that I won't disclose the exact amount, because it's embarrassing that I'm still not much better); I love illustrating for comics specifically. I've been doing them more consistently for the past couple years, and you can check them out at my deviantART http://jba1987.deviantart.com/ or SmackJeeves, all linked thru the dA pages.

Last year around this time, I had to step in and start taking care of my mother who has Multiple Sclerosis. It's a very demanding, time-consuming responsibility that actually led to me not being able to go to work as she needs some amount of care all day. This started off as a hugely-crushing blow to me and my life, but over time I've been able to balance out helping her and working on my art; now I see the whole thing as some sort of divine fortune, allowing me to focus on my passion instead of just coming home from work and crashing from exhaustion.

So, since re-discovering enterVOID (I used to read and think, "Man, I'd love to get in on this"), I've been using all of my art-time to work on this stuff. I love the critiquing aspect, the community, and the all-around creative atmosphere that comes with it, especially since I don't really have any IRL friends that are comic-creators. I'm already blown away why the friendly reception of the mainstay members (Shen, Angie, etc), and love the challenge the site provides for my art!

Okay, that's all! /novel

VOID Characters and Comics / Re: Challenges Thread
« on: Dec 15, 2014, 05:46 PM »
you can put up an 'open challenge' so everyone can see you're open on the page. Go to top menu comics>view/issue challenge and hopefully you can figure out there.
I'm trying to keep a low profile
>__>
<__<
But really I'll probably do that once I have this X-Mas comic I'm working on all wrapped up :)

VOID Characters and Comics / Re: Challenges Thread
« on: Dec 14, 2014, 01:22 PM »
Hey all I'm a super-hella newbie here at VOID (character pretty much just accepted), and I'm ready to jump right into the thick of things... Only I'm pretty nervous about it all so I'm just gonna go ahead and quietly post here...

Would anybody be up to breaking my VOID-cherry with a 1 or 2 week Regular match against my Animal Girls Criminal Squad? I've got loads of time and could probably produce something really good with a week, but 2 weeks might be a safer bet just to make sure I get it done.

Edit: PS my E-mail's justinba1987@gmail.com :3

Wow man everybody is killing this! :D Everyone should dress up way more often!
Anyways hope it's okay if I join in, trying to distract myself while I (anxiously) await character approval?

Bunny-Girl and Duck-Girl!

22
Weee~ Thank you!

23
I'm pretty comfortable with the amount of effort I put into them! At a certain point I like to assess when the time spent on a page is starting to tip the balance of "Input v Output"; is taking an extra two hours per page that doesn't actually do anything to aide in the integrity of the piece worth it etc.

Anyhow here's the comic with bonus new (and not at all suspicious) formatting?

So! After an injury, 2 fantastic video game releases, Holiday-hijinks, and computer troubles, the intro comic for AGCS is finally done!

v    Look at it here!    v

^                            ^

If it seems a little fast-paced and cut-off, that'd be because my original idea/sketch-pages were running this baby up into about 10/11 pages and I didn't want to be stuck working on the intro for too long!

Is this a suitable intro comic? And if so, what do I do next?

25
Hey all; just wanted to say I'm not dead/ I haven't lost interest or anything like that; the comic's just a little long and I'm trying to squish it down, and also Smash Bros for Wii U happened. :X
