Underwoodwriter said it was cool if I got some colouring practice in on his lineart for this jam, because he's a CHAMP. That being said, I'm no good at colouring. NONETHELESS!

Orion (Holy TOASTER MONKEYS that's some gorgeous linework, btw. Thank you Underwood!)

And a rather more subdued Nyasuu, because BANANAS, motha.

AND HE POSTED MORE IN THE INTERIM. Oh my goodness the man is fast.

I might colour this later :P

I'm gonna start a Jetster fanclub. Everybody's gotta paint their face blue and practice sneering like a boss's in the mirror and it's gonna be AWESOME.
Did you know I love you? Because I love you.

PM is on the way. Thanks a million.

Oh, goddamn. I have been eyeballing this thread for, like, forever.
If the next person who's interested isn't available 'til after the 24th, I would like to squeeze in. I am looking back at the disaster that was my fight with Hiemie and I think I have some issues I need to iron out.

Would you be willing to browbeat me, Angie?

Don't like to tear your paper, huh? The best thing I ever did for myself was forget the idea of "keeping a sketchbook". Although they can be an interesting way to watch your progress over time, I (personally) found myself too worried with how I was going fill that book with the prettiest things possible. The best thing you can do for yourself at this stage is DRAW DRAW DRAW DRAW all things, all the time.
Consider getting yourself a roll of the cheapest, crappiest paper you can find-- brown grocer paper works for me-- and commit yourself to filling it with as many life sketches as possible. Seriously! Draw something from life every day. (These exercises will serve you well in the future, I promise!)
If you do produce something on that cheap paper you're particularly proud of, it's easy to cut it out of the sheet and clip it into a binder.

Keep at it, you're doing great. I can't wait to see you produce some sequentials!

New here? / Re: INTRODUCE YOURSELF

Endowed by nature with perhaps the most glorious baritone voice to be heard on an vaudeville stage since the memorable concert debut in 1835 of Millard Fillmore; endowed also with twelve incredibly agile fingers.

... Single white female seeks twelve-fingered virtuoso. Must like dogs.
(MARRY ME.)

Qyz, you're a peach. I presume you were a fan of my good looks and excellent fashion sense, because I just looked at my old SDT submission. ;)
Absolutely, I want to tangle with you. I hear it's been a while since you've produced much in the way of comics? Damn shame! Let's change that as aggressively as possible.

14
Might get booted off this week anyway lol, but who knows?

If you get booted off this week, it's all good! Your character survives the tournament.
Challenge someone the next day.

I have the rare advantage of understanding my imminent loss, but he last time I had my hindquarters handed to me on this site I buried my head in the sand for two years. To keep that from happening again, I went ahead and asked another competitor if they'd be interested in battling as soon as they had an opening.

Is there a character on the site you want to take a swing at? Get in touch with the artist!

Heimie, as one of those returning artists I appreciate your comment. I'm really, really glad the invitational opened up.
As for the scandal, it isn't affecting me, so I'm not sure I'm worried about it. If it was affecting me, I'd probably be all excited about tangling with a known name.

Where did this awesome thread come from?! Must. Participate.
Awesome stuff, guys. I'm seeing some really cool stuff in here (and even some art of my feller Orion, which is funktastic!)
Hope y'all are warmed up for the competition.

Love that intro comic.

CATBUTT. Oh, god. Catbutt. My heart... It can't take it. I'm laughing too hard. Glorious.

In other news: I am fascinated by the bullfighter's pompadour. Look at that glossy slick!

EDIT: Where did all these awesome submissions come from? Street hoodlums and primordials and beefcake, the list goes on and on! Y'all are brilliant.

Loving the alternate-environment VOID submissions. You know what I wanna see? I want to see a certain little witch and her erstwhile robot companion chased by prehistoric giant sloths.
In other news, is that an eleven-year old wearing a dino hoodie? Eeeeeeee.

Julienya-- I'm using my phone at the moment, but it looks to me like you've got a broken link in that first post.
In addition, if you look closely you'll find that there is an edit button to modify your posts, if you forgot something.

You got it.
Nice to see another competitor! The more the merrier!

Hey! I haven't been around since the 2010 Speed Death Tournament. I mentioned the invitational to my roommate, who thinks he's gonna join. In the meantime, here I am! Back again.
Let's do this.

The seventh son of a seventh son, Orion comes from a long line of illegitimate bastards, and he's proudly carrying on the tradition. Such is the life of a born-and-bred Carnie! Indeed, this fellow has worked every midway and circus big-top from one end of the globe, to the other. Such is his claim, but this drawling hick has a taste for hyperbole, exaggeration, and embellishment. Surely, though, he's been around: he collects stories and tattoos on his travels, and is a proud keeper of a century's worth, today.
The manner of magic this Seventh possesses comes in handy, here. You see, Orion's ink is very much alive, constantly changing subject matter and placement. Brought to life by his colourful tales, it often wanders right off his skin!
In short, Orion Seventh is a con-man, a petty thief, a rake and a scoundrel. Don't listen to a word he speaks, and you'll be fine.

I haven't contributed much to the VOID, but as an onlooker: whenever comics get made, I tend to think of it as a success.

I wish I had read this line two days ago, when I was trying to explain the VOID to a scriptwriting friend of mine.
Characters are just the bullets we fire through weaponized comic guns to combat one another.
... I like the visual.

I'm really looking forward to reading the submissions this year, BBs and otherwise. I love the theme, and I can't wait to see what you folks can weave with it.
God, I love these big fancy events. Ya'll seem to pull them off with such aplomb.

Converse, h-uh? I wonder what it would cost to get that sort of product placement, but if there's a company crazy enough to do it... Put a bug in someone's ear, man. You never know.
Personally, I prefer the boots. An astronaut with spurs on sort of implies the fact that he might slap a saddle on a rocket or space-beast at any time, and I like that.

I find it somewhat interesting that your undead creatures are among the least creepy things you draw. Those fellows are downright cheerful.
