@ArtsandGoodies
Ugh! You're right! that was a missed opportunity :c
(although anthros are a completely different especies of animals?)
But yeah if i had remembered this at the time i would've added it in the dialogue...

belated coment now that I am free from SDT

Candy: I love your style and your expressions are always great. Also i like how you did the story for this and the characters had a great interaction. I would also agree to work on the action poses, but also the composition for action scenes, the characters were consistently cramped during the action in a way that lowered the impact of the action. Great job with the comic and look forward to battling you.

Petrichor: those meme covers are really funny also I love Gutsmashers attitude in this, it's a good way to show how cocky she can be and underestimating her opponent. Her reaction on the bottom of page 4 is my favorite. Though feral Redacted wasn't quite feral enough which did take away from the story. Also not really a crit but on page 8 the question about do cats talk would have been a great opportunity to reference her fight with Catador but that's just a cheeky little reference and nothing against the comic for not having it in their. Also in general your art and action are very good and please get some rest and make sure your hand is okay.

AAAA MY FIRST VOID VICTORY IN OVER A DECADE ;3;

Thank you Gutsmasher for the battle. This was SO FUN to work on, and I hope you enjoyed it too. Your comic is SO GOOD. I was hoping we would've tied xD.

And thanks everyone for the critiques, I'll keep that in mind. This comic was my first "real" attempt at drawing action poses so I'll try harder next time.

@flutterbyes
Uh, i added that detail on purpose, she is indeed patronizing him.
Although Guts is less arrogant than the average kaiju, deep down she still thinks they're above other especies (and it's also the reason she tends to underestimate her opponents/ don't take them seriously and have the bad habit of patronizing others)
*like the battle vs catador*

Also i didn't make Daccy go full feral because he's too weak for that. Sorry if he seems like a simple villain to you but it is in his bio that he's a selfish asshole, so i just wrote him like one.

Candycorn - Really love your story. I got feels towards the end, and felt connected to both characters. One of those things I can't even disect because good storytelling is beyond my skillset.XP My main advice is work on those action poses, because they feel a bit stiff even with action lines. I'd look at manga like One Piece or One Punch Man and see how they do motion.

Petrichor - Your base story isn't the most engaging, but it had some great action, and good gags to keep me reading through.  Good paneling, too, especially with the black textboxes! Oh, and though the anatomy was off on some scenes, the poses were complex and flowed well.  Main thing I would like from you though is tighten your writing so we can see more than gags but the characters underneath.

Hope that helped, and just so you know, both your comics were really fun and funny!  I wouldn't even comment if I didn't feel strongly about my enjoyment here! (It's a bad habit, I'm trying to change, I promise!)  Well done, guys, you done good!

CCR: Gutsmasher and Redacted both got a really good showcase in your comic. The stylistic shifts are maybe a little jarring, but they're appropriate. A little mood whiplash is the name of the game with Redacted. I was legit scared for Stinkypants. I think they had some good chemistry, but the pizza box house didn't come off as heartwarming as I assume it was intended to (everything else about the ending worked though). Redacted sure is menacing, but I think some of his action poses and attacks need a little more "oomph" so they don't look restrained and thus less feral. Another example of where you could make the pose more dynamic is page 13, where Gusmasher's hand is awkwardly held on front of her body, when it could easily be made part of the silhouette, making the pose more powerful

Petrichor: You need to do, like, collectible variant covers. It's fun seeing just how Gustmasher's scary side comes out of her usually cheerful and friendly demeanor. You'd almost doubt for a moment that she could take a dinosaur in a fight. Although, a head pat does strike me as the patronizing action of someone who doesn't understand as opposed to the sympathetic action of someone who does. I get that she doesn't take this situation perhaps as seriously as she should and she's full of jokes and slapstick, but that detail seems a little "off" to me.  Also, Redacted not being too feral for witty banter does kind of take away from this. It makes him come off as a villain who would sing evilly about eating than someone who's hungry and cold and lives on the street.

Honestly, this was such a great matchup. You both did the opponent’s character justice imo, you both have a penchant for funny expressions, both draw teeny cats in a Very adorable way, hell the characters have some similarities too and the comics both ended on a sweet note. I still can’t get over how you both ended up with such similar stories!

Petrichor - Always a fan of your photomanip covers, this was great. Liked the expressions throughout and I love your stylisation of Redacted! I tried to pinpoint what exactly I liked about it but it’s just all round good and I love looking at him. I also enjoyed Gutsmasher’s blasé attitude to being attacked and then her little message in the pizza box to Redacted, I think it made the fight pretty interesting.

While I enjoy the story you went with here, I also think there was some wasted potential though? I heard you both agreed to continue on from Warm Welcome, where Redacted is kind of dying from cold or at least extremely sluggish, but here it seems he’s back in fighting spirits again and also completely coherent in his feral state. Redacted even says in the comic that if he weren’t so hungry and cold he would have won, but his actions don’t really reflect that - to me he looked pretty competent, even though he was tossed his motions looked good and he got a few swipes in. I would have liked to see Redacted be more clearly useless in this fight than he is, maybe swinging too slowly or out of control because he’s too cold to do anything other than flop around.

Candy - I enjoyed the overt humour like your fantastic expressions (when Redacted chokes on the meat holy shit) and the memes, but the background humour was good too, like Redacted wearing a shower cap and Gutsmasher’s sign. I like the implication that Redacted feels bad about and is trying to resist his urges, like on page 8 when he grips the sofa tightly when he sees the cat and manages to hold off until just before Redacted comes to attempt to eat it. Also I thought the pizza box house idea was very clever!

It appears you don’t really plan for your speech bubbles though and that bothered me quite a bit here. Often the bubbles were tiny and squished haphazardly in the gaps between characters, popping out of panels or obscuring parts of characters awkwardly. Some of the text I really had to squint to read because it would suddenly get smaller, such as panel 4 page 8, panel 3 page 14 and most of the panels on the last page. Leaving a good amount of space specifically for the speech bubbles and trying to lower word count per bubble would help this a lot.

BOTH - Both of these comics were really good, I enjoyed both of them visually and story-wise, and as is clear from the scores so far other people have the same thoughts! In my opinion it’s not very useful to only say “you’re both good because of xyz” so I’m gonna do a direct comparison as well!

Overall, Petrichor’s comic looked more polished. Nice clean lines and shading, characters clearly stand out against the background. However, this was partly because the backgrounds were pretty bare and sterile looking. The backdrop of the alley was barely utilised for the fight, and both the characters and the dumpster often looked like they were just in a floaty blue space.

Candy’s backgrounds feel more lived in, as I said before. There’s mess in Gutsmasher’s apartment, there’s things like sticky notes on the freezer door and a wet floor sign in the Pizzeria, it’s little details like this that really make the backgrounds shine. However they can get too messy in some panels, leaving the focus unclear. At the beginning I think the snow and lighting were a bit too strong for instance, leaving things looking muddy and blended together.

Woo!! Thanks for the battle Rhino!
I gave my best to manage my time right and deliver the best comic i could (i even finished the coloring! that's a miracle considering i had to deal with an endless hand and wrist pain... but it serves as a reminder to always strech before drawing, ugh)

I'm so hyped to see our comics uploaded tomorrow!

May the best trash lizard win ;)
