Truman is known around the seedy underbelly of Voidheim as the best at what he does. And what does he do, you might ask? The answer is usually "odd jobs". He prefers to keep his hands clean of blood, but he'll happily launder money, smuggle banned books, steal back your stolen family heirloom, etc. Especially if it's for a good cause.

If you asked Truman about his past, he'd probably say something like, "Didn't know my folks, grew up on the streets, wasn't socialized well." The latter is more and more apparent the more time you spend with him. He keeps his distance, refusing to let acquaintances become friends. Despite this, he tries to do right by those around him.

Truman has known Benjamin for several years now, and despite Truman's usual cold attitude, one can tell the two place a lot of trust in each other.

He seems to have a grudge with the law, going beyond simply being a criminal.

52
"Or! They could be lulling us into a false sense of security. Letting us go first so we take care of all the traps and puzzles for them."

Truman sighs, reaches into the backpack on the floor beside him, and pulls out a crowbar.

"Make this quick, I want everyone on top of their game once the job starts."

He places the crowbar on the wooden box and goes back to watching for patrols.

He mumbles to himself, "At least, I think it'll have traps and puzzles."

53
Truman stands by the window, scanning the streets for activity. His posture is tense, but his face is calm and focused. Without looking back, he recognizes the heavy footsteps he has heard so many times before as Benjamin.

"Finally joining us, Braddock? About time."

He glances over his shoulder for a second, taking stock of the allies gathered together behind him, before dutifully turning his attention back to the streets.

"I don't like it. How do we know this place is still safe?"

His hand taps at the handle of his rapier for a moment. He takes a breath, and turns back toward the others.

"Grace could have spilled."

Truman breathes the name through grit teeth. He pauses for a moment, letting the words hang in the air.

Q-BIT
•   Who is the team’s regular job broker/fence/informer?

•   Benjamin Braddock, a pudgy, jolly old man with a colorful sense of humor. Dressed in ratty clothes, he drifts from place to place. Benjamin has eyes and ears all over the city in the form of Void's homeless population. He acts fatherly toward Truman, who does little to acknowledge the gesture. Try not to take him lightly, though, as some say he's a retired member of this region's underground (literally) freedom fighters.

•   Who was the last person to die due to your actions/inactions? Do you regret it?

•   The truth of this is far too personal for Truman to share publicly.

You're also going to need to pick a background, which plays a big part in designing your character, and which the SRD unfortunately only has one of. I've got a handful of the books myself so I should be good there.

I'm curious, is the Blue Medusa adventure more combat-heavy or more talk-heavy? I'm looking at a Rogue Mastermind, but if it's more of a dungeon crawl, Swashbuckler would be the safer pick.

If anyone wants to talk character ideas, hit me up on discord. I'll be keeping my eyes on the 5E channel in the Void Tabletop server, too, if you'd rather talk there.

56
I'll bite. Good research for my own play-by-post, after all. Looking at Rogue and Warlock. Is that Artificer class out yet, too?

THE INCUBATOR / Q-Bit's Incubator
« on: Jan 30, 2017, 04:49 PM »
Been a while since I've had one of these. (I think the old one got deleted?)

Laplace is the name of a cult leader with the power to see past, present, and future in equal clarity, and to share these visions with others. His visions have shown him a cataclysmic world war in the future that he seeks to prevent. But, don't mistake Laplace for a hero, no. By his logic, any murder, manipulation, or other misdeeds he commits are acts of heroism, solely because he's the one doing it. He's 'above morality' as he says it. The cult, tentatively called the Horologii, are mostly downtrodden, desperate individuals, shown the future by Laplace. They are loyal to a fault, though most aren't capable of anything extraordinary.

I'm still working on his design, so any criticism there is appreciated.

Page 1 of ?, planning to add narration of Laplace explaining about the war he foresees, poetically, of course. More pages soon!

I wanna battle these guys already! What part of the world is she from? Island? Tiny little country in between larger borders? Or is that a secret too? Is it a developed part of the world? Is there a class divide? This kind of stuff intrigues me.

She looks like she's going to be a fun character. That said, I'm having a little trouble telling what it is you want the core conflict for this character to be. Unless you're going full Kishōtenketsu with this, conflict is a nice thing to have. Nice job, hobbies, gets along well with others, all good traits, but I want to know what hardships this girl is dealing with, even if it's just little things. You mention she'll fight and hold grudges, but you make it seem like a last resort. Which is fine, but it makes me confused, do you want her to get into fights, or stay away from them?

"You said to wear a mask, right?"

Not formally joining yet but if I do, it'll be with this mysterious asshole. (It's Gil.)

If I can find a collab partner, I'll definitely be contributing. If anyone is interested, hit me with a PM or talk to me on Discord. (It'll say I'm offline, but send it anyways.)

THE INCUBATOR / Re: My first ever public comic.
« on: Aug 22, 2016, 10:01 PM »
I like him! I'm interested in his bio, but if you'd rather keep it simple and let your comics speak for themselves, that works too. Just keep in mind, your opponents might have trouble keeping him in character.

If you're satisfied with that intro, you could probably submit soon. Personally, I'd take the extra time to clean up some of the colors bleeding out of their panels, add some detail on that photo Teo's got, work on making the word balloons a little clearer, maybe grab another font like JayKat suggests. I'd also make sure to get keep the punctuation and such consistent, as is you've got some sentences with periods, some without. You wanna write your comics like an English professor's going to be grading them, it goes a long way for how polished they look. But otherwise, I like what you've got so far.

It's not quite over, the finals are being drawn as we speak. Also, here's a good place to look for battles!

Rounds 2, 3 and 4 are in the archive. I'd link them all, but I don't wanna spam the page with more links than I already am.

spit spat, time to chat / Re: VOID D&D/Tabletop Group!
« on: Jul 26, 2016, 04:43 PM »
Every D&D group I join dissolves after a few months, so hopefully not this one! I have the most experience with 5e, and I have the handbooks for it, so that's a start. If my schedule permits, I might be interested in trying out DMing, too. (No clue if I'd be any good at it, though.)

65
Gonna be playing a lot of Monster Hunter once I finish my comic.

Friend Code: 1118-0237-0113

Feel free to poke at me on discord if you see me on!

66
Just found out I'm not going to be home from July 7th to the 10th so any battles are really gonna have to wait 'till after that.  Hopefully I'll be able to find a match with everyone all paired up by then. I guess if I gotta wait, I gotta wait.

67
Gotta get destroyed to get better.

Let it be known I'm also interested. Gotta check my schedule before I commit to anything, but I think I should have a good amount of time. I guess my PMs are open if anyone wants to take initiative? Otherwise I'll seek someone out after the voting on Round 1 ends.

Defaulting just means not putting up a comic. It gets you an instant zero score and is rude towards your opponent! They wanna see your take on their character after all.

Post what you drew anyways! Even if it's unfinished, it shows you gave it an honest effort. No point in defaulting if you have something.

Might be tricky considering how many of these guys are criminals, on the run, or some manner of evil spirit, but you're certainly free to try!

Thank you! The moped actually took me a few tries. First pass I accidentally connected it so the front wheel would've been unable to turn. I eventually figured it out though!
