Alex: I'm glad to see you could still turn in a quality entry with the limited time you put into it. Pretty good battle, if you move on to the next round I definitely want to see you kill the opponent next time.

Mel: I'm really happy you got to put more into this one then your last match. As always I love your colors. If you make it through I would like to see Skinner use more tactics and her blade.

Good job guys, this one is cloooooose

Thank you everyone, it's been a tough week being away from home, but I did what I could and am glad I was able to get it done at all. I definitely agree with everyone on the things that need working on. The script was written too fast, as I originally planned on finishing the comic before I left for vacation, which was laughable. At the last minute, I decided to take the laptop and tablet on the trip and work during my downtime. What I failed to do was look at the script again and make any necessary adjustments. A lot of things felt either too rushed, or rough, but I didn't allow myself the time to go back and rework things, which I'll have more time to do in the future. I was just too dead-set on getting it done.

Also, haha.. backgrounds.. yeah.. I was way out of time and sacrificed them for other things. Adam is right in calling me out on the sound effects.. I may have used a lot of those to help fill empty space.. Ha, I apologize for that. I'm still new to drawing comics, so this was part experimentation, and part 'oh-shit-put-more-of-that-in-there-to-fill-space.' There's definitely still a lot to learn, so again, thank you everyone for your feedback and kind words.

I also cannot stress enough how much I love Luniara's comic. She's definitely a strong opponent whom I'm glad to have had the opportunity to battle against.

Wow, both very excellent comics! I felt that the Night Blaze comic had more dynamic action poses, but Lune, your anatomy and coloring is simple euphoric. I especially enjoyed reading your comic because I hadn't read The Skinner's bio, so having her turn out to be Lune was a really cool treat.

THIS IS A CLOSE ONE! I can't wait to see next round's matches!

great show you guys and I agree this one will be close. There is a lot of similar pros and cons. You both show you can draw like a boss. But you both chose not to even hint at an environment. You both have a very similar story and fight progression.  You both turned in strong comics and I commend each of you for your efforts! This is a great match!

Individually:

Arp: Your drawing is very good. You can draw a very good character. Not sure about some of the dialogue. And I feel an over use of onomatopoeia hurt you in this one. Having a sound effect for every little thing actually takes away from your nice drawing. It covers it and is over redundant, if you are using it to cover up the lack of time you had I feel it kind of didn't help, the "foooosssh Fooooosh chompchompchompchomp AHHHHHHHHHHHH crackelcrakclecrackel" panel was a bit much. And a second fight in a death match where your character doesn't directly kill anything... just kind of beats them down seems kind of lack luster. that 3rd page could have easily ended with a mortal combat style fatality... with only changing one panel.

Lune: I really liked your character drawing as well and the colors are a very moody milky goodness to them. At times it felt a bit dark and muddy, but over all moves the eye well and pops elements out nicely. Next time if you have time a tonal hint of an environment would be killer. Drowning is either the most peaceful way to go or the worst...

Cutter: Didn't I tell you about the sailor who said what drowning felt like?
Robert Angier: He said it was like going home.
Cutter: I was wrong. He said it was agony.

these were both pretty nice! and yes, shockingly similar haha. my crits for them are gonna be about the same too.

I wish that they both didn't happen in some nebulous, featureless location. I think I would have been okay with any setting, even another alley or something.

I'm gonna echo what's been said too- nice pencils arp, lovely color lune! this is gonna be a close vote from me.

arpelayre: really really love your pencils - really tight, but the story was a bit lackluster. either way- good show amigo.

lune: bringin that color heat, it looks lovely. some of this dialogue is hard to swallow- my biggest recommendation is try saying these things out loud. same with your poses--- like page 1 panel 2 is stiff- it looks like she's doing some light jazzercise  you get the win from me

Luniara, that was amazing! Very well done! I am also amazed how similar ours are! And your art is so great! I knew I would be going up against a strong opponent! Congrats, I know you were concerned about getting it done, but you did it and it turned out great! This'll be a tough match... It was definitely an honor to battle with you :) Good luck!!

Oh my gosh. Our battles could ALMOST line up.  You really made my day that I actually got to see my Lune behind that mask from your end. You nailed it and your 'best'...is STILL stellar" and will most certainly trump my ass any day of the week. It was an honor and a pleasure, ARP. I tried what I could with the time given in hopes to give you a good show. You have a very big and new fan.

Submitted. I did the most I could with my time schedule and being out of practice. It's amazing to see how much time is actually required for these things, but it was definitely good practice for getting back into the swing of things. I found I was more comfortable getting into it this time around. Looking back at my last comic in 2009 though? Dayum. How did I do it!?

Anyways, enjoy what I put out nonetheless.

The last day... Oof, I've been out if state for the past week for a wedding. I'm still here for a couple more days, but I've been trying to squeeze as much time as possible on the comic. It'll be shorter than the previous, but hopefully won't look too rushed.. Gotta love the timing of things... :P
