Art Jams / High Fashion Jam
« on: Jul 02, 2016, 02:21 PM »
I couldn't find anything similar in the threads so forgive me if this already exists. Anyway, I noticed high fashion has a lot of pretty crazy, over the top outfits so I thought it'd be fun to see Void characters in them. Just pick a style, google image search for an outfit, and pick one you like or you think is real crazy lookin' to draw.

I thought this outfit looked like some kind of cool gothic superhero get up.

Then this one just got a laugh out of me. I guess it's cute in its own way.

spit spat, time to chat / Selling comics/image packs online?
« on: Feb 20, 2016, 12:24 AM »
I'm going to set a record for most questions asked at this point. Anyway, I was browsing my downloads and found the little comic/image pack I purchased from Odraws on tumblr a while back when it was on sale (It's about their mortician characters http://odraws.tumblr.com/post/65256794662/odlaws-morticians if anyone's interested, and is still available here https://gumroad.com/l/carPe ).

Anyway, I noticed other artists selling similar things on sites like e-junkie, and just wondered if anybody on here had sold image packs or digitally distributed comics for sale and if they did, how do you go about it? Do you prefer having a site that automates it for you (and do you know of one that doesn't have a monthly subscription cost or is at least on the cheaper side), or do you accept payment through paypal and manually distribute your copies?

Jobs / Karma Commiss-eon.
« on: Sep 07, 2015, 09:06 PM »
I've been trying to make some money lately and today I started up a sorta specialty commission set. I don't think anyone here would care to buy one but just in case

Toons~ Ten per toon and options of greyscale or sepia, very toonified or true to source material, things like that. They can be more detailed than the ones listed there as well, depending on who someone wants to be turned toon, and can be doing whatever you want since I wouldn't charge more for props or anything like that. Email is at karmasloth@gmail.com or I can be contacted here, on FA http://www.furaffinity.net/user/karmalarma/, or DA http://karmaadoptables.deviantart.com/.

Also having a summer sale for full body, full color commissions for $35

The intention was taking on "summer" themed pics, characters in bathing suits or eating ice cream or such so it would look like a summer postcard, but since I didn't get any, no theme needed. Includes, one full character with soft shading and a simple background like so. If you would like more examples of my work, or are just made uncomfortable by the extra curvy dragon lifeguard I've been using to advertise the sale and are avoiding looking at her, my art thread is here http://entervoid.com/index.php?topic=12473.msg239478#new and my tumblr is always kept up to date with my current works http://karmalarma.tumblr.com/tagged/Karmal+Art .

Commissions filled in a couple days or so each, and generally only take longer to complete if I have a lot of them to do.

VOID Characters and Comics / Character Voices
« on: Sep 02, 2015, 03:43 PM »
I was wondering how many people on here put a lot of thought into how their characters' voices sound. Whether they have a description for them or a voice claim for them.

For Conway I picked young Michael Crawford. Conway has a sleezy look but charisma and a nice, friendly voice helps him disarm people when he talks to them hehe. He's also got some slightly poor sound quality so when he talks, rather than sounding like someone talking in person it sounds like it's being played off an old record.

The first voice in the song.

And I think I mentioned Genie's voice claim on here before but it's Kristin Chenoweth, who is Glinda the Good Witch from the Wicked soundtrack. Genie worked in theater before becoming a hero so the singing voice works well for her but she also has a high, bubbly voice. Also why I've got a picture of her in the Good Witch dress somewhere hehe.

spit spat, time to chat / Art Table Merch?
« on: Aug 31, 2015, 01:07 AM »
I think this is the right place to ask about this, but I wanted to hear from people who have run artist tables at conventions, particularly anime conventions.
I'm having an artist table at a relatively small (500ish people usually?) anime convention and I've decided to try my hand at doing a couple of printed products. I have an idea for an original zine and for the other I was considering doing some sort of fan comic.
So I wanted to ask people who have done tables before: What sells best?

Is it especially difficult to push original products like people say, and is it true that 'sexy' sells better than other themes? Is it better to do what's popular and risk a lot of competition or to stick to the niche and be the only one selling to that audience (Or is that only good for big cons?)? (What even is popular this year? I can't remember hype for anything and I didn't find new shows I wanted to watch.) Are comics harder to sell than just regular prints?
Any misc. wisdom you wanna share?

spit spat, time to chat / Webcomics!
« on: Jan 22, 2014, 08:33 PM »
Since I'm thinking this would be more regular discussion than asking for help with anything, I figured this was the right place to put it. But, I've got some irons in the fire right now for a webcomic I've been wanting to do for a while (after I finish The Case of the Candy Cannibals one shot of course (○゜ε^○)), and the internet and library books about webcomics have a lot of very dumb advice about them.

SO I thought I'd just see if anybody on here who is doing or has done a webcomic before would wanna talk at all about their comics! How they started, what inspires their work, their best way to work out big plots/arcs, the way they set up to launch, or just telling me about what their comics are about in general. It looks like there's been quite a few on here who have done them, and there's two comics hosted here too, so I'm figuring somebody here will have something more helpful or interesting to say than guides that encourage you to stick to being hamfisted and not try to be witty or thoughtful with your comics. Art Jams / Toon Jam
« on: Jan 21, 2014, 06:38 PM »
I was so surprised to see there wasn't one of these already! Draw your character as a Toon; inkblot, greyscale, Loony Toons-esque, whatever you feel like. c:

And I guess if your character is already a Toon, try them in a different cartoon style or un-toonify them!

spit spat, time to chat / January Comics Month Challenge?
« on: Dec 30, 2013, 09:58 PM »
It's a neat little thing I saw on tumblr. Here's their graphic for it;

And the actual post is here; http://noordzee.tumblr.com/post/71585169634/january-is-boring-lets-draw-comics-the

Anyway, I thought it might be neat to see if any other Voiders wanted to consider doing it! The point is to make a 15 page comic by the end of January. So maybe we could work on ours to post on our own sites and make an art jam for wip shots or we could use the 4 weeks deadline come January 1st in Submit a Comic on Void to really motivate us to finish our comics. Even if it's not a Void character of yours, you could always use the Artist Comic option.
I thought I'd post about it here and see if anybody's up for it. c:

GO FOR BROKE! / KarmArt
« on: Dec 03, 2013, 01:29 AM »
I had a few Genie related things pile up in my excitement over joining so I thought I'd start an art thread.
A little chibi Genie

Genie and her boyfriend/part time sidekick Dil "Pickles" Perkins.

He's a florist and they live together in the top floor of his shop. Since he has powers too, she talks him into patrolling with her sometimes if she needs an extra pair of eyes. He has a portal in his stomach that connects to a bunch of different worlds but he can also store stuff in the void, which makes him useful for picking up criminals since he can just suck them in like a black hole then spit them back out at the police station. But he's not very brave or athletic, so he's only into any sidekicking as a favor to Genie.

She made him his costume too.

And since it looks like you can post non-Void related things, I'll put a couple of pictures I'm proud of too.

A holiday pic of my character Mitch, where I was experimenting a bit with crosshatched color shading.

A pic I like of my character Smilin' Milo in a postapocalype punk type get-up.

Nightvale fan art. Not crazy about how Dana came out but I'm happy with the sky and moon.

Roller-derby vampire boy, Ophiuchus.

I'm weirdly proud of those burgers.

Older but still one of my favorite pieces of my sorcerer guy, Lord Valmir.

Aaand lastly, I'm doing the character design challenge late since I heard about it too late and this is "Psycho" Billy Black, my crazy zombie biker guy for the first day and just a design I'm super happy with.

Sorry for the huge art dump! I just wanted to get some of my favorites up there so I can make sure all future posts are completely of recent art. c:

THE INCUBATOR / Karma's Charmas
« on: Dec 13, 2012, 10:45 PM »
Hello! I've been wanting to join EnterVOID for a very long time but only recently rediscovered it. Needless to say, I want to get my first character right before I even consider sending him in to see about getting him approved. For the moment, I only have a ref sheet but tomorrow I will post some sketches of him in motion to show off some of his powers and body language.
Until then though, I would be grateful if people would take a look at his design and the first draft of his bio and tell me what they think~!

He goes by Nice Nick, or just Nice or Nick. He's fairly off kilter but it has to do with his power, which involves being able to see into a world based around this one but still quite different. When he looks into the other world, mundane objects and people are replaced by more fantastic ones and, should he wish it, more terrifying ones. He can manipulate the appearance of the other world and often uses this to entertain himself since he finds it more exciting than the real one, even if he knows none of it is actually there, making him something of an illusionist. He can manipulate all of the senses there, including other people's senses should he touch him with his hands and let them see what he sees for some time.

He is also very flexible and his hands are quite strong, allowing him to prop himself up on them should he want to be up higher or hang onto something. Considering the strange condition of his hands, he believes he may be from the imaginary world itself. Unfortunately, he has spent so much time in it, he remembers very little of his real life, having drifted through life in something of a daze that often leaves people thinking he may simply be out of his mind. He does remember his family to an extent and how much he disliked dealing with school and rude people. One of his most recent memories of his family is of them sending him away, likely to wherever he picked up his jacket from.

Personality-wise, he's actually fairly nice to people, living up to his name by being generally friendly and for the most part generous. He is excitable to the point of hyperactivity at times but spends most of his time looking so relaxed he nearly appears tired. However, despite his dreamy and easy going nature, he is actually a bit of a brat. He still holds on to the very childish notion of "I want it so I should have it", which gets him into trouble when he decides he wants things other people have or wants to do things with people who want nothing to do with him. He either doesn't understand or just doesn't care when other people don't want to play his games or see his world, which makes him just a bit dangerous.

Essentially, he isn't crazy, but rather an imaginative and spoiled boy who never quite grew up.
