this book is 450 pages of awesome. if you like your comics with a healthy amount of feminism this is definitely one i recommend checking out. i picked it up because i read fast and needed to kill time at work, expecting it to be just a nice coming of age story. jesus, was i wrong!

it's basically the story of the author hitching around italy as a teenager in the 80's, told in excruciating detail. things get really interesting when she gets separated from her friend and the italian men basically start viewing her as a piece of meat. the way she depicts her own emotional changes is really unique, honestly something i think would be at home in a comics lit class.
READ IT

as a quality comic slave, i'm reading some new number ones for this week! so tomorrow you should look out for.....

SHELTERED- a new series from image by people i've never heard of. it's about this bomb shelter compound full of apocalypse survival nuts and there are "internal conflicts" and shit goes DOWN! the art is just really nice and pleasing to the eye and the story is off to a great start. this book definitely has my attention, check it out!

ADVENTURE TIME, CANDY CAPERS: finn and jake are missing and PB puts peppermint butler in charge of defending the candy kingdom. if you don't love peppermint butler your heart is made of stone. read it.

also, the second issue of killjoys continues to be weird/cool. and YAMBLR IS BACK IN YOUNG AVENGERS Y'ALL!

~creeps into the bendis action days later~
age of ultron was miserable, i made it two issues and i read for free thanks to work, so i can only imagine how i'd feel if i had paid for them. HOWEVER bendis is writing both the uncanny and all-new x-men books right now and they have both been spectacular (especially uncanny, fraser irving+ilyana woop). i think the problem is more the amount of editorial involvement in those big dumb event books.

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, BATTLING BOY
if you have not heard about this book, paul pope has been talking about it since 2006 and has stated that it will include a 50-page fight scene. it's also about a 12-year old boy beating up monsters so basically it's perfect for all you voiders out there. my shop just got an advance copy of part 1. i'm not allowed to post interiors because i would like to continue reading advance copies of this stuff, but there it is in all its advance copy glory!

some things it includes:
pretty colors, animal shirts that give the wearer the animal's attributes, a taxi-eating monster, a dude that bears a striking resemblance to thor, mummy vampire ghouls, futuristic technology, social commentary(?), MURDER

so basically it's awesome and comes out this october, watch for it

HELLO THIS IS A WARNING THERE ARE BOOBIES IN THIS POST
(is that allowed? sorry if it's not, I can change it!)

helloooo everyone! this is my very first character, enjoy!

Quote
“Things have been going downhill ever since the Greeks. They were the last society that really did it for me, ya know? They did human sacrifice better than anybody. All you had to do was go terrorize a village and boom, they chained a virgin to a rock.”

HISTORY:
Fee's real name is Iphianassa, but it's silly and hard to pronounce. She claims to be a mermaid but is mostly a sea monster. Her favorite foods consist of humans, raw steak, and raw fish, in that order. Her origins are Greek, but she refutes most common mythology as “human shit” and that's the end of that discussion. She claims to be connected to both the myth of the Loch Ness monster and the sinking of the Titanic (calling it unsinkable was practically a challenge).

Despite her illustrious past, Fee's immortal boredom has been nagging lately. She's been spending most of her time dodging underwater mining expeditions, and it's been decades since she's had a proper meal. She's decided to take a spin on the shore again, setting up shop above a Japanese steakhouse. In Void City, decent meals are easy to find. She's got the perfect online dating profile to deliver guys, and she's found a city where nobody's going to notice if a few lonely losers happen to disappear.

ABILITIES:
Fee can change form at will from sea serpent to human, as well as some stage between. Her strength and agility are enhanced, and she recovers very quickly from injuries. Though she can be killed, she doesn't appear to age. Her kind may have originated the myth of the sirens due to a bizarre ability to bend humans to their will with a sound.

PERSONALITY:
Fee is an extremely manipulative and selfish creature, thinking primarily as a predator. She likes eating meat and destroying stuff. However, in her human guise she can be incredibly charming, as long as it's in the interest of getting what she wants. She has been known to be capable of human emotion, but her understanding of such matters is limited at best. Her ex boyfriend Cetus is famous for getting killed by the hero Perseus while trying to eat a virgin that was chained to a rock.
