Sure, I'll give the realistic Ivan a try some time. The Poseidon picture is pretty much done. I'll have a picture up soon.

Here are new sketches done in a new style I'm pursuing for Ivan.  I'll be refining it more and post a new character design sheet sometime after the next week is over.

Here's some new work both school and void related.

Here's a sketch of my version of Poseidon for my portraiture project for my water color class:

And here's some sketches of Ivan I did last night.  I was experimenting on drawing him differently which is why all 3 images of him have different eyes and stuff.

The first one I was going for more realistic looking eyes.  The 2nd one is sort of a fusion of semi-realistic and manga.  The 3rd one has slightly more cartoony eyes.  All of them are rather appealing to me style-wise so I might try each of them out in the future or at least one of them.  Don't mind the last one I got tired and just...yeah...

Haa....where do I start...

Well I was introduced to this site by my cousin (SailorLonestar) long ago, way before she even submitted her character into this site.  She was very taken by the idea of the comic battle site and wanted to show it to me.  I thought the idea was cool too and entertained thoughts putting a character in, but never did because life was going a different direction unrelated to art and so I forgot about it.

Fast forward a few years, I'm in the middle of college working in a major I really didn't have my heart in.  My cousin finally starts to submit her character, asking me for opinions/critiques.  She sends it in and it becomes official and I watch her do her first battles.  I liked how much fun she was having and promised I'd put one in.  I kept putting it off/forgetting.

Each year she would remind me to work on the character.

Fast forward some more, I've switched to graphic design and finally doing something I liked.  While I had some free time during the summer in the midpoint of working on my degree, I decided, "hey I'll work on a character".  I drew one up and submitted it into the Incubator.  Got lots of feedback on it.  There were quite a few things not quite working with the character.  I realized I didn't really have much drive for the character and needed to rethink it.  Family problems came up and the poor thing laid forgotten in my sketchbook.

Fast forward again to 2010, Pi (a mutual friend of SailorLonestar) told me about the Invitational Tournament and said I should give it a try.  I wasn't sure about it because it had been a long time since I had given much thought about the character and I hadn't redrawn him much at all since I last touched the design.  After some encouragement from both Pi and SailorLonestar, I decided to touch up what I had and give it a try.

And now I'm here.  I'm glad I actually took that step forward because I never would have known how fun this was.

I'm still here because this site is fun for me and I'm learning a lot.  I like the challenge in here as well.  I don't think I would have done as much as I had if I had come in regularly.  The one week deadlines really pushed me to my limits, not just in speed, but in creativity as well.  It's much different to have random opponents thrown at you than it is to pick and choose one.  It's allowed me to think on my feet in a way and test how i can creatively weave characters into a story.  I know that I will be here for a long time because of this. : D

I know its not my match but it has so many of my favorite characters in I couldn't resist. :)

I thought Arena would look good in a big floppy hat with her new cloths.

:) Go Match!

Awesome hype picture. : )

Alrighty I want to make Reinhardt Circus into an actual gang in Void.

Current members are Ivan Reinhardt, Lorelei, and String Puller.

We accept any and all who want to contribute to the entertainment of Void's citizens or if they just had the burning desire/dream to run away and join the circus, that's fine as well.  To join, just contact me and we'll arrange a battle or something.

Thanks, though it's actually just Ivan's artist who I'm battling, the other two are extra goodies.

Forgive me for my ignorance; what's the difference between that pic and the former?

Good luck with your move, my condolences for what happened.

I'm already excited. :D  I'm gonna see if I'll be able to make a cover this time around.

oh, the difference between the two is that in the second one, Enaxon added the text, artwise there seems to be more texture on the second one and it looks a little darker too I think.

Boek comic is defunct. If anyone wants to take his place (I want the big 5-way to be the 10th comic regardless), feel free to volunteer.

I'll take you on that challenge. : D

@ Mishi:  That's too bad, but I understand that things in life come up and all.  Good luck with managing everything.  I'm looking forward to seeing the BB.

@ Orange:  Jeezus, I can't believe you finished 16 pages. @_@X;;  I can't wait to see it. : D  Must be pure epicness!

I had trouble uploading as well, not the fault of void, though more of a case of unreliable internet at my apartment.  I honestly don't know why I'm paying for it if it sucks so bad. >: (  I have to talk to my landlord.  This isn't the first time I've had problems.    I had to jet down to a starbucks at breakneck speed.  Kinda good that I did, got the comic uploaded and something to eat/drink, been living off of cereal the whole day.

@ Roflq: Yeah, the cartoony guys are actually a requirement of the assignment.  I'm not too good at doing stylized versions of creatures.  And it was also part of the assignment to do side views only.  The Leopard Mandrill didn't follow that spec and I got points docked off for it. >.>X;;  But now that school is over i will continue to work on the creatures and put them in more dynamic poses.  I also need to revise them, some of them need reworking.

@ Orange: Armored Wolf is one of my favorites, glad you like it. :D

@ ClassicGuardian:  As I mentioned to Roflq, the cartoon guys were a part of the assignment, not too great at doing cartoon animals.  Now that classes are over and I don't have to hold to any specifications, I'm definitely going to work with these creatures and give them more dramatic poses.  Hey, I might even use them in my circus comics, you never know.

I can draw people, are you asking about skeletal and the whole shebang?  Or just life drawings, which are scattered at the moment.  I need to dig up some of those and put them up.  Or maybe I'll just do new stuff.

I don't believe I have an art thread of my own yet.  So here it is! : D

For now, I just have school related stuff, but I will definitely put other stuff up here as well, later down the line.

So to start, here are some of the pieces I've done for Creature Design class.

Hey hey hey who here didn't have a single punch/kick/shot/blowofanykind in their comic?

*raises hand, looks around, raises both*

No fighting of any kind in my side, but in Sasa's side there is conflict, not with each other though. :D

Everyone's that submitted should now be approved, with the sole exception of Ivan.  He'll be fixed and in tomorrow, because I don't have what I need on this computer.

If my math is to be trusted, there's 47 new characters about to get thrown together to kick start this thing.

Thank you Kevin, your hard work is greatly appreciated.  : )

Now I can rest easy and finish off the other stuff I need to take care of.

Comic Sans hate is mostly due to overuse and more importantly misuse of the typeface.  It is considered a very unprofessional font to use especially if the topic is serious.  Some people hate it to death and some people love it.  I know graphic designers consider it the font from hell.  I've even heard that there's a hate Comic Sans club out there and I think even the creator of the font isn't very fond of his own creation either.

I've been trying to submit my character for the Invitational at the main Entervoid site. My icon is 50x50 pixels, all of my images are Jpegs, I filled out all the fields, hit agree then submit and every time I get this message:

"ERROR - There was a problem saving your entry into the database. Click here to report the error, and we'll get back to you as soon as the problem has been resolved."

I've tried this on Firefox, IE, and Chrome with the same results. It is 12 minutes into July 25th in my time zone and were it not for this error my character would have already been submitted at the main Void. I already submitted the character here on the invitational forum, so I'm just one step away from completion. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Having the same problems, followed all the steps.  But strangely mine is having a different reaction.  It doesn't give me an error warning.  Instead it treats it as if I'd never hit the submit button at all and sends me back to the Create a Character page with an empty form.  In any case, I've already e-mailed Toast, told Pi about the problem yesterday so all I can really do is wait. :/

Still trying to submit and stuff right now too.

My character entry, Pi has been constantly reminding me of the deadline.  Proof of arts: http://shojintakaru.deviantart.com/

More recent stuff: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/Shojin/School%20Work/Quach_61.jpg

Name: Ivan Reinhardt

Age: 9

Occupation: Acrobat, Juggler (Diabolo), All-round circus performer

Place of Residence: Reinhardt's Circus Extraordinare (Once a traveling circus)

Ivan is one of the youngest star performers in the circus troupe run by his family.  He has been performing since he was a small tot, pretty much learning to do flips before he can even walk.  Being an all-rounder, he can perform various agility and acrobatic acts, but his forte is in juggling Diabolo act.

His family has moved to Void and have decided to settle and become a permanent entertainment attraction in the city of Void.  Being a naturally curious child, he's keen on exploring everything about his new environment.  He'll often skip out on practice and school to play around and inadvertently cause mischief which usually lands him in a lot of trouble.

Ivan isn't completely defenseless however, he can use his small size and acrobatic ability to get himself out of harms way and if need be, he can use his Diabolos to inflict damage even if they are usually used for performance purposes.

Steel Diabolo - specially designed for fire/pyro acts
Red Diabolo - varies in weight, typical diabolo used
Blue Diabolo - lightest of the 3 used for longer air time

If Diabolo's aren't readily available he can use anything the resembles a spool.  He can juggle a max of 5-6 at a time and working on getting more, but his usual is 3.  Rods used to juggle are made of a light weight steel with a thin flexible wire.

New here? / Re: INTRODUCE YOURSELF
« on: Jul 27, 2009, 04:27 PM »
Hello!

Just call me Sho or Shojin, of course it's not my real name, I prefer not to put it down here.  Been drawing ever since I can remember but didn't really pursue it as a career until 3 years ago.  I'm a graphic design student aspiring to be an illustrator.

I was pulled into this site by my cousin, SailorLoneStar, and have been lurking on the site ever since (which was 2-4 years ago? I forget).  But after such a long time lurking and being prodded into joining by my cousin, I've decided to try my hand at this.  I've already got a character ready, but still working on sequentials.

Hopefully I'll do decently ^^X;;  and I look forward to interacting with all of you and perhaps a battle sometime in the future. ^^X  Nice to meet you all.
