Is having a character in already a requirement? Or could this be used as an invitational-esque platform in which I could throw a character in here for consideration?

spit spat, time to chat / Re: tell me your artstyle influences
« on: Jun 09, 2011, 11:27 AM »

I started drawing young. I started watching Cartoons young. The stuff I saw in Cow and Chicken along with I.Am.Weasel stuck with me. The cartoony expressions, the works. Everything I doodle nowadays would not look out of place in these cartoons.

Sam Keith. Disocovered through Sandman, and god, I was introduced to a world of awesome. I actually think the Sandman pages have been murdered by whoever did the inks and colours. His detailed stuff is sooo nice. A big influence when it comes to inks and linework

Akira Toriyama. I know he's been mentioned, but sadly, where I should be mentioning rigerous amounts of life study, it's probably endless fightscenes between topless screaming dudes that has taught me the most amount anatomy. Go figure.

Glenn Fabry. Preacher covers. What more needs to be said. The muscles, the wrinkles. Oh god. Love it.

And last but not least, the biggest artistic influence. In my eyes, everything this man draws is gold. The designs, the shapes, the ugliness. Simon Bisley.

Damn, I got a shit load of work done during that, and cheers for the answers TODK. This was actually hilarious, you certainly can talk haha.

It was a really pleasant surprise to hear you're English too, actually.

Eagerly await the next one.

YUSS.

TODK: I first found your work after trawling DA a few years ago. I remember I'd just discovered what an OCT was. I saw what you'd done in the Colosseum and I think I read the whole thing in one sitting. It was the character designs that really got me. In fact, looking back at it now, was the messenger who meets Ophelia in your 'Versus Blue' comic a Pandora forerunner? I mean with the hair and opening up the portal to hell, you have to wonder.

Also, if I can stretch to two questions: What/who would you name as some of your major artistic influences?

Cheers :)

Just now watching the Fringe finale on DVR

Fringe! We're not upto the Finale where I am. But Walter Bishop. Walter fucking Bishop.

Finally got into Dr. Who, and wondering how I was living previously without this show.

The newest season has started here and is awesome. The quality in the writing is getting a lot more consistent now. And I love all the overarching stories. I still look back over the episode with the giant alien wasp and the episode with the body fat coming alive and sigh a great sigh.

Thor was better than I expected, considering the magic to science idea had me worried. But it was enjoyable. I still think the best part was Natalie Portman seeing the Captain America trailer. Agent Smith as Red Skull? Hell yes.

if I went on it would reveal my true identity as a small asian woman

That's a good thing. It'll make me feel a lot less confused about these thoughts I've been having.

But seriously, do it.

These are great. I actually included Zsa in the research area of my Graphic Communication project this year, so it was very nice hearing from the man himself :)

Cheers Zsa!

In addition, my vote for next guest goes to The One Dark Knight.

... Just sayin'

Firstly, your characterization is ace.
I really like Tobias, especially that first image.
Actually, what I'm seeing here is a lot shadier. That really appeals to me.
Keep posting :D

New here? / Re: INTRODUCE YOURSELF
« on: May 04, 2011, 09:07 AM »
It's always a bit disheartening when you see someone's stuff & it's looking pretty fuckin' slick, but then they're a lot younger than you're expecting them to be.

I think that's one of my major driving forces. The first thing I do when I find an artist is search for their age. "Are they younger than me!?"

Welcome! And way to be so talented, asshole.
;)

And Yon, it's awesome to see you here. Your shit's really cool :D
from Russia, I'm a manly girl.
Though I won't lie, this made me laugh.

I'm Fraz. I reckon I've been coming to void on and off since i was thirteen. Which was four years ago now. That's some serious lurking. I'm in England and finishing college in a month, I want void to keep me going throughout Summer so I can get a few level ups before I start my Illustration degree at Uni. Always thought this place was cool, I'm chuffed to finally get involved.

Typing this whilst waiting for the Girlfriend to finish her eye test. Haha. So yeah, cheers for existing, Void. It's good to be here.

With that first image, I would just say that his collar looks very wide on his shirt. It seems to suggest an uncomfortably wide neck. I would just suggest keeping in mind how clothing is still structured by the body inside and imagining that interaction.

And that's a nice take on Doodle Dan. I won't comment on the pose, since you've recognized it. But the one thing about this image that I notice is his nose. It's just a sort of shape. It's not particularly defined. And I can see in those other images you're using different forms for features which is creating a lot of variety in your faces, which is really good to see. It's just Dan's in particular that I feel needs some definition as a nose is all.

I like the imagining though. And his chin reminds me of Shaggy's from Scooby-Doo. Just sayin' :)

And just a note, don't feel constrained to just draw the outlines of things. If you've ever done a contour drawing where the lines define the form of an object, you'll know that well placed lines of detail can help define different planes on your forms, creating depth and tackling flatness.

I really like the variety of character in your work, looking forward to this comic.

Started out as doodles, but I took it a bit further. Pico, Edgar and Ethos, as if you didn't know.
Lurker giving back.

The scanner raped this.
