We start with a simple creature(yes I am a simple creature), then show how it evolves and progresses over millions of years of evolution. In The Exquisite Beast, the artists would take turns drawing a step in the evolution. But here, we can just all take a spot.

Wei Ingnan has been infected with a tiny alien parasite..... over time the parasite will both grow and develop while also causing him to mutate and change. Draw the gradual and horrific changes that take place in both members in this monstrous relationship.
JAM RULES:
1. If you claim a spot, please draw something in a timely manner or your turn will be skipped. There is now a deadline of four days...remember other people might be waiting on you.
2. Drawings need to have some effort, but colour is optional
3. Realistic evolutionary jumps only. Things happen gradually.....so I really want people to GO SLOW
4. Backgrounds are optional.

Ok here we go... I made the little guy go B-Line to Wei's pituitary gland. There our little parasite milks the gland causing a massive over production from the gland. That in turn creates rapid growth in both host vessel and the parasite. Wei has already reached 9 feet in this image.
I kept it simple in the evolution and am leaving the first step more knocking on the door of many steroid or hilariously hormonal gigantic possibilities.

Following off what Adam set up I went the growth hormone route had the neck and head start to bulk out with the rest of the body and the legs start to cat leg out a bit, more foot and hand growth. Tried to show a bit of those changes in the bug going for a symbiotic relationship between the two :) Looking forward to where people go next :D (I also figured with the body shape change that pants would be harder to hold up so I added suspenders :D)

I mean to start off... Where can you get slippers? Embarrasingly, you have to resort to cat beds. But they are comfortingly cosy in these difficult times. So are double seat sofas.

great personal touch to the drawing fern....getting a little bit of Crumb from your efforts....I in fact already have a lot of trouble getting robes and slippers....and am sorta sad to admit that I am still seeing a self resemblance in all of these

another sudden growth spurt causes strain for wei to get around the house. muscle, hair and nail growth causes strain for wei's bathrobe. it's lucky that he's learning to use the tentacles sprouting from his nose to type, because his fingers are far too big for the keys on his computer. try not to stand up too fast!

wanted to do more...including developing the parasite..but ironically I am currently fighting a bug along with my other physical issues....OHOH....... and I knew Shen was waiting
so this is what I got done before I head off to a much needed warm bed

Quickly eating through his families savings due to the amount of food required to support his increased growth and metabolism, Wei is forced to leave his home and neighborhood amidst suspicious reports of missing pets and finally a local dog walker.
None to soon as he had already been forced to move from his home itself and into the garage behind his home, standing now in excess of 10 feet in height he had outgrown even that structure.
Wei moves to an abandoned industrial building near a wooded ravine within a large valley in the Northern Part of Toronto, preying and feeding on the local wildlife and pets as well as the occasional unlucky jogger or hiker.
Given a larger and more regular source of protein, his body continues to undergo changes; his hands have become even larger and more claw like, loosing any ability to manipulate with any dexterity. His legs and feet continue to grow and develop adopting a more animalistic stance. In addition the 5 tentacles which have sprouted from his back and spinal column have grown in length and size.
Wei becomes aware of increased senses of smell and taste derived from the tentacles eminating from his nasal cavity, which proves ample support for his poor vision and inability to wear his outgrown spectacles . He also suspects that he has begun to somehow breathe not just thru his mouth but also the strange growths.
His skin has becomes very tough and has developed odd bumps or wart like growths about his chest and sholders, which are increasingly visible even thru his dense body hair.
Due in part to extreme hunger and also radical hormonal changes in his system, Wei has difficulty thinking rationally or focusing much past a bestial level much of the time. His greatest fear was that he would attack his wife or otherwise hurt his family. His family does not know his whereabouts at this time and his weakened mental state and isolation have not increased his ability to control his developing rage , confusion and animalistic behaviour.
Eventually he will exhaust the local food supply and the local populace will first become fearful of the area and eventual form search parties,these issues will encourage Wei to move farther NorthEast where he will begin hunting and feeding upon the larger animals to be found there.

Rapid growth is now uneven as bones begin developing massive calcium deposits and begin jutting through the skin irregularly, especially from the spine, twisting around the tentacles. Especially alarming is the growth on his skull, just about where the parasite resides. Upper body is growing faster than lower body now, causing a hunch in posture. The skin takes on a strange, earthy hue.
In other news I'm not entirely certain this isn't an accurate depiction of crazy comics hobo tree-man Alan Moore.

I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm finishing up my entry for Nina and Justin's Sweet Treats zine, and on top of that I've got a killer deadline coming up at work this Monday (which I'm trying to get done by Friday so I'm not working over the weekend). If you have it in your heart to wait until Monday, I promise I will deliver by then, even if it's just a pencil sketch. I know evolution here on VOID happens too quickly to wait for overcommitted stragglers like me, but I'm on my way!!!

Sorry for the major delay on that, but I went and did a thing after Gregly since I promised something.
This go around our dude loses all sense of modesty as his bones grow out of hand and he begins to lose hair and a sense of humanity. The parasite starts to grow under his skin slowly revealing itself as a whole new entity. His legs begin to shrink in size as his upper half takes on most of his body weight in holding himself up. His appetite is insatiable and he begins to pray on all living creatures. Mostly young children and babies, because they are tender.

Funny how Sean and I had the same idea about the parasite emerging from Wei's head. My branch follows pretty closely to Gregly's stage, with the major change being the emergence of the parasite from Wei's skull, which now lusts after the experiences of its host creature and seeks to control Wei's body completely. With Wei already losing control over his appetite and animal instincts, this second head with a second brain attached to the same body, although unfamiliar with the workings of the body's neural network, poses a formidable threat to the host's ability to remain in control at all. At times when the parasite takes control, Wei enters a near-unconscious to fully unconscious state; at most, he can make out blurry visions and incomprehensible sound bytes through the channels of the nervous system that the parasite is still trying to connect with. Since the parasite has no experience with the anatomy of the humanoid body, these stages of parasite control tend to be erratic, short-lived, and convulsive. As the parasite learns, however, Wei may be in danger of losing control completely to his parasite.

Just got a new tablet (haven't drawn anything digitally in ages), I guess I'll take next. Can't promise I'll have anything before tomorrow night though, working until midnight tonight and have to be back in to work by 645am tomorrow. And I have the flu! SCORE!
Edit: Promise it's coming. Doing that short shift was stupid and pretty much agitated the illness so I ended up worse off and unable to use my voice at all. Gonna shoot for tonight -- 50% done. Started having more fun with it so I didn't want to upload it. Was just gonna be a sketchy line drawing. Anyway, in the morn.

Having completely taken over Wei's systems (nervous, circulatory, digestive, etc.), the parasite has very little use of its host. Wei's head has become a superficial remnant of a body no longer his. The protruding spikes are beginning to form a shell and the tentacles function as tails for whippin.

nice illo and design but yah you went WAY too far off the reservation....we are supposed to be taking the exisiting direction produced by the previous artists and SLOWLY moving forward(but I do like the shell and the tails)

Sorry about that. I had some more subtle designs but they all looked stupid (not the best excuse). May not have looked like such a leap if I stuck to lineart either, prolly would've looked a leap if I just shaded and colored Bobo's for that matter with all the contrast. I'll wait a couple turns (if there are any) and try again.

not really anything to apologize for.....just meant to be a fun exercise with some conditions to follow....part of the challenge is working with the existing 'model' and tweaking it into somthing you like or find interesting....instead of always drawing 'your kinda stuff' all the time
.....practicing/contributing and taking part is important..you just pushed past the boundaries a little too much.....not a big deal

alright...had some repeat computer issues that resulted in me being offline for a good while, complete meltdown and me getting a whole new system....and then setting all the software and hardware back up(still doing that)..hence the delay

I tried to implement the majority of all the previous incarnations and still move forward a little...I am reasonably pleased but would love to hear any responses or criticisms

This is my favorite rendition so far. It incorporates everyones progression with small additions from you. I like that you made the parasite form all the way around his face kind of making it into a mask of sorts. I would think its time you made this dude into a character Wei.

I just gained a new level of respect for you, Wei. You did the perfect job of incorporating the wildly different iterations Sean, Crimson, and I posted without making any one of us feel unrepresented (speaking for myself, at least; but I think Sean and Crimson would agree). I'd love to see you ink and color this drawing if you have the time and resources to do so! (If not, I might just do it myself for fun if that's okay with you!)
I'm not going to commit to anything new until I've caught up with my existing projects, but I really hope someone picks this up and keeps it going, because this has been really fun to watch! (I think all future evolution jams should be based around a VOID member hahah!)
