Man I've been trying to think of crits for these and I'm drawing a blank

-Team Oleander: Oleander sending out a press release basically was a v interesting way to take the story :U and tbh in some ways it reminded me of like... Old Void in a way? It was giving me vibes of some Void comics I've read from before I joined. You all clearly had a lot of fun with the fight sequence and boy that ending was so good

-Team New Danger Rangers: GodDAMN you guys went all out. I love y'alls fight sequence, you did a really good job at showcasing each character's talents. I think the only thing missing that I would've liked to seen would have been a moment when they all truly came together to pile all their powers on--but!! I won't put that as an actual critique because I'm not sure there'd be a way to work that in without adding even more work to an already phenomenal output. like. You gave a solid story, I loved Nagore's moments especially, and y'all should be damn proud of what you put out.

Really nice showing for such a small team, guys! And it was a treat to see artist Angie in action again! the artwork is very pro and it is unusual to see such thick black outlines paired with the full color spectrum and novelty pays off. story wise, I like how the point of the interactions was to show how disjointed a team the danger rangers were. bruno goes falling to his death but I'm pretty sure nagore knows how to fly and could have saved him. dingo the fox is just out here working for himself. and everyone seems to have missed the safety training for click's weapons. Mints does a good job, as usual, writing an emotionally engaging Oleander take. but at the end of the day, no one proves themself or changes: Oleander only wins because the 5 people we see fight her had no synergy, then she gets to make a press statement about it. I would have preferred a more emotional , non-public-eye story, which is what I think Oleander lends themself to best. but we still get to see every single character and why they can't beat Oleander so her speech at the end is believable. I also feel like the cartoonish characters got more screen time in yours.

you really did a good job of spreading out that art butter across all the pages you needed for your story. the color pallets are nice and not distracting when they shift to a new color. the character interactions and characterization takes a good center stage here. I wasn't too pleased with all the new super powers you gave Oleander: shapeshifting her eyeball around, maybe. but super healing? and the characterization of her basically shooting up a mall full of randos seems off to me, idk. i read the previous comics But i'm not sure why Oleander is acting this way. I wasn't onboard with the story at all and action doesn't entice me. UNTIL Rantu showed up. is this a dark horse? the idea that Rantu is more caring of the dead than Oleander cares for the living and the way it's shown and set up really pulled me back in. i have a hard time buying/writing a character who is supposed to actually believe killing people is being NICE. but it's believable for there to be a a character who thinks the dead want revenge. he seems like just such a deadass GOOD GUY and the perfect foil to Oleander, thematically AND aesthetically. he stands up for the rights of the dead: he doesn't control them, they're actually in support of him. is nice in a world full of characters who manipulate and mind control and play with dead things to see someone who doesn't control ghosts or zombies, but is just their buddy. also it's cool when he hits things with his Guitar. just such a good foil. and the part where Oleander's X shows up? brilliant. that's the kind of- that's the sort of- you know. makes the bad guy think twice about if they're really the good guy? very compelling story telling. Nagore being tempted by oleander does add a little more interest, but it's just not the same. Nagore isn't goin to change her mind and Oleander isn't going to learn from the exchange. also, I like the themesong, good choice.

y'all both did a good job ham fisting all those characters into two such short stories and creating some very polished artwork. I feel like these comics deserve money in their tip jars.

These were both honestly good in different ways, I genuinely can't decide.

I'm very tired and out of it but I'll do my best to leave some meaningful comments!
Oleander: ShowHide
I love the exploration into Oleander's motivations and their feelings about all the resistance they've gotten. Knowing that what they're doing is wrong on some level, but the ends justify the means. It also seems like maybe they want the people of Void City to stop them, which is a very intriguing possibility šŸ‘€

I think the one thing that could be improved upon, which is a very difficult thing that I definitely haven't figured out myself yet, is making sure the fight choreography is clear. Blame it on my smooth brain maybe, but I had a hard time keeping track of where everyone was during the fight, and some of the blows got lost in the shuffle. I'm not sure what the solution is because this is a weak point for me, but I'd recommend finding fight scenes in professional comics and breaking down what makes them work.

That aside, this comic was just šŸ˜ššŸ‘Œ a masterpiece. I'm so happy to see Angie's colors on the site again, even if it's just for this one special occasion. Miss you! Red's inks are tasty as always, and Mints has been really killing it with all of these Oleander comics in every way. I look forward to more! And I feel like I need to take a personal interest in this event now that my character has been called out šŸ˜‚

GOD DAMN YOU GUYS ARE SUCH A GOOD TEAM!!! The combination of all of your skills and talents as creators is so impressive to me. The art, the writing, everything is top notch. The fight choreography was fun, fast-paced, and included everyone in meaningful and exciting ways. I love how this comic is basically the creation of this team as allies. Will they continue to work together, or does their allyship only last as far as their individual motivations take them? Excited to find out!

I have to really nitpick to come up with anything to improve here, but I think the one thing I'd suggest experimenting with is your use of color. When using a limited palette like this, you can really have fun playing with values and contrast, using them as tools to bring attention to the most important parts of each frame rather than worrying about keeping a consistent color value for each instance of the same object. i.e. worry less about representing characters consistently with your colors, and focus more on making each panel pop with contrasting shades. Spot blacks could also really come in handy here, if you're feeling especially brave, but those require a lot of practice to get right.

I think my favorite part of this comic was how well you handled all of the character interactions. Everything felt natural, and you brought the various genres of these characters together for spectacular effect. From the cross between goofy humor and high-stakes combat of Nagore to the slapstick toon nature of Dingo to Oleander's philosophizing and self-righteousness, everyone brought their own "brand" to the table, and you took advantage of that to create interesting and entertaining interactions all throughout. I LOVE how well you've weaved together comedy, action, and drama in a way that respects each of those without taking away from the others.

Special shout out and thank you to all of you for taking the time to include details about Ancelin's mall from my past comics and from questions you've asked me. I'm sobbing with joy for the love you've given me. I don't know when I'll be able to get to it, but you can bet I won't let this love go unreturned! You've given me a lot of great ideas for things I can do with Ancelin in the future, and I'm just dying because I've got so many things in the works and can't jump on this right away šŸ˜«

Both of your comics have called out my character, directly or indirectly, and now this is personal. I hope I don't get too burned out this year because I'm stoked to make my own Oleander comics in response to these!

Well done all of you! This will be a battle to remember! Calling it now as a real contender for Best of VOID 2022!!!

Both sides were INCREDIBLEE, they way Oleander was portrayed in both rounds was incredibly intimidating and terrifying.

OLEANDER- The inking, reasoning and the way Oleander seems so approcheable is so damn unnerving, but also...strangely appealing. Oleander has a way with words that would make people want to reconsider their offer (I know for a fact one of my characters would give in to them right away)

DANGER RANGERS- THOSE FIGHT SCENES ARE INSANEE, I also loved how every character had their own chance to shine. The way they all came together seems natural and they work perfectly! The way each character jumped into the fray and interacted with one another was delicious!

Each side got me super hyped!!! Awesome work to both teams.

Oleander: Loved the dialogue of Olander while fighting the danger rangers.

Danger Rangers: Awesome fighting scenes, I saw some inspirations applied in the fight and it worked super well!

I was trying to hold off reading this till I was done with the invitational comics but I couldn't keep myself away.

Y'all absolutely killed it!! The writing and the action and the framing were all so good, it's an absolute pleasure to have been a part of this. You guys pushed super hard and it really shows, I hope y'all like what we put together for you, too!
