Art Jams / LGBT+ Jam
« on: Jul 17, 2016, 11:17 PM »
There are loads of LGBT+ characters on this site, but it doesn't always come up in their comics. It would be so cool to see what variety we have on this site in terms of gender and orientation, and celebrate the fact that we have a lot of diversity here.

We're using LGBT+ at the moment, because it's the best way to get the point across and be inclusive: Any character who isn't cis/het lets hear about them, and what their orientation/identity is!

If your character is an ally, feel free draw them having some fun and celebrating their LGBT+ friends!

VOID Characters and Comics / Fashion Trix Short
« on: Apr 10, 2016, 12:36 PM »
Hi dudes!

Would really like some comments/critiques on a work-in-progress storyboard if any of you are up for it!

The story is a short about Merrik/Trixie - but don't worry if you don't know them (It's been like a year since I last battled). If this storyboard is working, it shouldn't matter if you know them or not! Anyway, here is the full board. It's kind of long so please don't Tl;Dr too soon!  ;v; <3
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B_coOzjwbArRSndKaFNHZ1pDeWs
(Let me know if the link is working ok!<3)
here's a preview of how some of the panels look atm:

This started as a comic series idea, then grew into a collab with Skulls, even though she (understandably) got too busy I carried it on. If anyone else would be interested in collab-ing that would be pretty rad <3

Ultimately it will be a portfolio piece. There's loads of comics in there already so wanted to do something different, while still expanding on Merrik/Trixies story. It's kind of a stripped-down snippet from a larger arc.

I'd really like some advice on how to proceed tho. Not being versed at all in the process, since past storyboards have been for live-action commercials It's starting to feel kind of overwhelming? Storyboards are supposed to be rough and sketchy,  but atm it's too rough and sketchy. There are other options ofc, and any advice from the more animation-driven of you would be really helpful.

I don't have the stamina to finish up every single panel in fully-coloured properly rendered drawing, but would making a couple of 'fake screenshots' be a good option or a waste of time? animate sections?? IDK??? GO HOG WILD LIL VOIDSTERS!

if it's boring and you stopped reading half way that's still valuable feedback so let me know which bits made you lose interest etc so it can be chopped appropriately!

VOID University / Mentor and Trainee Roulette [REVIVAL]
« on: Aug 25, 2015, 10:32 AM »
CURRENT STATUS: IN BATTLE

MENTOR AND TRAINEE REVIVAL:
The purpose for this scheme is to have more confident members share their abilities and knowledge directly with members who want to level up their comic-making game. A mentor will take on a single trainee - every person teaches and learns differently, so each process will focus on being tailored to the needs of both teacher and student.
Mentors and Trainees get paired up based on what each individual expects from the process. Ultimately, Mentors are going to have the final say on who they take on as their Trainees, but Trainees can apply to the mentor of their choice. Each trainee will only be able to apply to one mentor at a time.
Once the process has started, you will be entered into a mentor/trainee-specific rumble roulette. This means both mentor and trainee with have a common goal to work towards. Only the trainee is formally entered into the tournament but - mentors: you will be expected to guide your trainee to victory!
After this, we’ll review the process and ask the participants to let us know how they got on with an open discussion in the thread, or an anonymous review for both mentors or trainees.

TIMINGS:
25 July to 8 August - mentor sign-ups
9 August to 16 August - trainee sign-ups
17 August - mentors must decide and announce any accepted trainees no later than this date. Mentors can formally accept trainees any time they like before this. Please post in this thread to confirm.
20 August - Roulette tournament starts (deadlines as follows):
1 week drawing time
1 week voting period
5 September - debrief and discussion in thread

MENTOR SIGN-UP APPLICATION FORM:
1-How much work you would expect to be doing: (Realistically, how much of your time can you offer them?)
2-How much work you would expect from your Trainee(s): (Will you be forcing them to work x amount of hours a day, or will you allow them to dictate the workflow?)
3-What you would like to see from your Trainee(s) when they apply: (to help you decide who to take on. Think about: their skill level?
how long have they been on Void? Do they have a character? Have they battled before?)
4- Your preferred method of communication with your Trainee(s): (Are PMS or discord the best way to contact you? If they're going to need a microphone or webcam to work with you, let them know!)
5- Do you have an area you consider your speciality?: (EG self-promotion, inking, writing, colouring, composition, time management
etc?)

News & Events / Community Project Generation Game
« on: Aug 23, 2015, 09:42 AM »
(Get it, because getting the new generation interested means generating new ideas haha. ha.)

REAL TALK
While it's totally rad that everyone is pumped to get new people on the site, I'm p. sure getting snotty at each other in a tournament voting thread is akin to beating a dead horse at this point. It would be time much better spent generating some new ideas-- not specifically new tournament ideas, although they are welcome. We're a creative bunch, so let's use our noggins a little harder!

If an invitational tournament is off the cards for now, and you're all serious about bringing new people in- lets damn well fix it. Lets generate some ideas which won't require too much effort for the mods to run. Lets dream up some good solid community projects and events to get this site out there!!

Some things that may be worth considering:

-Void has great presence on fb, twitter and tumblr right now, but the DA group is looking a little unloved. Those of us on DA can start adding our pieces to the galleries. An active gallery would attract younger new members and inspire them to get involved. Simple!

-Starting some kind of serial, akin to a webcomic, but more interactive. Regular updates generate activity. If one or two of us were willing to collaborate in a longer-running weekly-updating short serial, it could generate some new interest and get new eyes on the site. Not only new readers, but also others who want to get started in making comics.

(see also Qyzs post in the Tourney Voting thread- chain comics, where the winner goes to make the next link in the chain, etc. That could be a way to run this kind of thing, for all you tourney lovers!!)

-More community projects!! Akin to the animation Skulls and Shen are working on. Not all of us can animate, but if we have other skills and interests, lets use them!! EG someone like mintly, who is skilled at cooking, maybe you could make us some entervoid cookies? ; ) TBH I just fancy some cookies. They don't even have to be void themed. BUT HEY you know what? A Void Bake-off would be really cool! Stuff like that!

(On that note I'm still mulling over making an Entervoid Muchkin skin. If there is anyone who would be interested in helping me get that going, hmu!!) Other tabletop games people were suggesting sounded cool, so if you wanna do your own spin-off, do it!!! I know lots of u are into TGS!!!

- APPRENTICESHIPS?!?!?!? Crimson Daggers forum has some more senior members take on 1 or 2 students a year to personally mentor. As long as we- as a community, don't let this become too insular (or get too up our own arses about it), it would be a fantastic way for us to share our knowledge. New people would instantly be more involved and more interested. A mentor wouldn't have to run just little workshops or tutorials, they could help new comers with things like time management when working on battles, or whatever the mentor could think of. It would help our community become more welcoming, in a practical way.

- Why the heck did any of us join??? I joined after seeing how much Kinuchio had improved in such a short space of time. Maybe some of us could put together some before and afters? Lets really show off what this community can do! Putting it all out there on social media sites helps people hear about us! Last little food-for-thought: in order to attract people to this site, we have to look outward- so what would have brought you here? What could you see now that would bring you here??

-daily drawing challenges?? Post on instragram, tumblr, ur mums fb wall whatever???

ANYWAY this is all stuff we can do ourselves!!! It would all help! Any additional thoughts? Ideas??? Lets get some of this off the ground and get things moving!

Thanks to Elyan for suggesting vlogcasts and podcasts!!  These would be a great way to show off the work and spirit of the site.  More the merrier!!

More/new tutorials would be handy as heck. spreading them about on the void social media would certainly catch some new peeps!!  Thanks to will duel for this suggestion!

Oh yes- this idea is rearing it's ugly head again-- WAIT NO PLEASE DON'T GO!! DON'T GO YET IT MIGHT ACTUALLY WORK THIS TIME I PROMISE!

If any of you have played Munchkin, The imagine that; but with Void characters a junk!!
If you haven't played Munchkin you can find out about it here

I've put together a bunch of preliminary ideas about how to make this happen and what it might be like as a game. It's all in this PDF, which you can read here.

All I'm really trying to say is 'This Could Be Quite Cool' and 'I Would Like To Make This Happen But Can't Do It Alone.'

So... Thoughts on this as a concept? Potential Volunteers? General shitstorms? Idk dudes go wild i guess.
tho if shitstorms could be kept to a minimum that would be rad.

Btw voicing interest in this thread won't guarantee you working on it, or me forcing you to work on it later. This is early idea stages and by no means a certain project to be pursued, just like a 'Yo guys how do you feel about this?'

FUN NOW COMES IN THREE DIMENSIONS!
Models... sculptures, traditional and digital- lets see you work your 3D magic!

3d stuff is super handy for reference.
I wanted to learn to make them in general but started with Merrick (since I know his face so well by now!). Tiny little palstercine bust- looked great when the sun came out for a photoshoot. Got a ton of reference photos for lighting!

You can see a few more pics of it here!

NOW SHOW ME WHAT YA GOT!

« on: Mar 24, 2013, 01:11 PM »
Updating this thread for Twenny Fourward! What cons are you guys going to be at, either for fun or to sell?

So far this year I'm only doing London May MCM  / Thought bubble (I'll be having a table at both). It would be cool to meet up with some of you! I want to do some more cons for sure.

For any one else who wants it here's a list of some comic cons from all over the uk. If anyone else has useful stuff they want to throw into the first post please just pop it in the thread and I'll add it, I'm sure you guys know plenty. : )

Art Jams / Concrete Jungle Photo Reference
« on: Jan 23, 2013, 04:18 AM »
I saw Crafty suggested this: 'I've heard some people take photos when they're out and about in their concrete jungles, perhaps someone could set up a jam or something?'
I do it a lot, but a lot of it is on my external harddrive which I have inconveniently misplaced. Heres what I have for now:

Stuff I've taken: (obviously I am not exactly a stunning photographer haha)
Rooftops ect (I have a thing for that you guys probably guessed already though.):

street-level stuff:

Taken a few years ago on a trip to Paris, includes rail/metero system lines, and the Notre Dame as well as just other stuff:

Stuff I didn't take but like to use as reference anyway:

(source, can't remember the exact blog, but probably from http://abandonedporn.com/ which is awesome in general : http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/hashima%20island)

A video of driving through London which I used for reference once or twice. Quite obviously not mine though, it's in it's original place though:

Anyway, like I said I'll try to find some more of my own images today.

Anyway, here are some of  my drawings. I am still learning (always learning) so any tips anyone can give me I would love to hear! Also if you see errors, please point it out because the chances are I didn't notice! Heehee. So yes:

Some less finished stuff:

If that is too much I am sorry and I will take some down if it is.
