THE INCUBATOR / Re: Energy's Character(s)

nice. i like the green fire though i wonder why that is. symbolic? power source? magic alien artifact?
edit: i read your description... i still wonder about the colour but i really like the idea of her not having the power under controll and the special school in VC. nice concept

the new design is way more interesting than the old one in my opinion. i´m not sure about the fire markings on her dress. cause i mean... she wields fire... does it have to be more obvious? but if its just for some style or markings in generell for the dress go for it. i´m pretty sure you might want to change that bit at some point of developement anyway.
overall i look forward to where this will be going

no its exactly what i did... or better i copied from the browser and pasted it. after that didnt work i tried through a document from word wich didnt work either after the bugfix.
i might just rewrite my bio but i´m not very keen to do so.
but well... i encountered the issue first when updating image files not touching the bio and suddenly there was a empty bio.
not bad all in all... might motivateme getting that bio and bb done... for reference

would be nice to have these fixed. thou how would this help draw more people to the site. the university sub always gave me a lost feeling... or at least just prooved important when facing a certain issue. but i fear its not exactly a point we can use to draw members.
at least i dont see a way through the subforum.

the tournament vote discussion contains some interesting thoughts. rereading might power the brain machine...

i´m aware tournaments are open usually and not vetinary exclusive. i was more refering to the option of making them like invitational tournaments. with no classic character aproving process

but yeah a character based tournament is problematic in terms of open for newcomers.
what i meant is open to people with out former involvement and no character. but i see the issue there.

what exactly do you mean with reflection on them? by the tournament founders or combatants?
the proplem i see is the default rate... but seriously that is something you have to deal with in an invitiational tourney setup.
i fell for that trap with clio back then. i know exactly how easy it is to get in and disappoint. but again. the point is to draw new members. its better to accept defaults in this time period than to avoid the possiblity alltogether.

this might not work for every mentioned idea. but wouldnt it be smart to give the option to open every smaller tournament up. make any tournament, especially artist tournaments a invitational if wanted?

maybe its worth the effort to establish a promotion plan for invitational/open tournaments

and as for given newcomers a hearty welcome and a feel of being wanted. thats something everybody has to try on their own. it has to be clear what behaviour is asked of us. but a member is a person and a person has their own ways. lets hope we will continue to draw more encouraging people and in a similar amount productive people.

the themes suggested give me the impression to be mainly fun oriented tournaments... i chose speed shipping cause i love some romance now and then and monster mash since.... who doesnt love monsters? haha
its pretty simple isnt it. if there are opinions that these are not the best choices plan other ideas.

one could be a regular vote with a suggestion thread opened beforehand, idea submission limited to a certain amount of time like one week.
this way the members can throw in all kinds of ideas and diskussions like this might be off the table right at the beginning.
the voting should be enabled to spread out the preferences. with lots of suggestions its hard to pick only two. but pick the half of suggestions you would support. with enough voters this might result in a good display of the communitys voice.

i still want to add my thoughts on the invitational topic.
my impression is this. a majority of the community supports the idea of an invitational event. the reasons are obvious and undeniable. syraxis made a good argument.
a concrete setup for ongoing invitational tournaments would be at least something to refer to. also something to be promoted properly beforehand since there would be a guarantee for it.

how about a a 2 or 3 year invitational series. they are undeniable important. they have their drawbacks but all in all work as catalysts.
like all famous tournaments it might be wise to implement them as traditions. even if they get cancelled in some years due to lack of participation. its something that might be worth consideration in effort to listen to the members and value those voices.

if something seems to be misunderstood again and again make it official. make it referable. make it clear so there is something unquestionable about certain topics

as for the apprentice idea. i remember something like that happened in the past. but i also remember that it was handled with a certain amount of pressure. my suggestion would be for the willing mentors to choose their apprentices themselfs. and also drop them if they dont seem to fullfill their requirements. which would result in choosing a new apprentice. no big deal or isit. if a apprentice wants the extra support he/she will deliver. if not so be it.
(i should realy update my knowledge on the past attempts to do this)

how about youtube tutorials... or the podcast. its nice having the podcast. but how about upgrading it. packing it with visuals, pages from the diskussed battles. examples of the artists talked about or the references mentioned.
a video might catch more interest than a mere audio podcast

GO FOR BROKE! / Re: Elyan´s stuff
« on: Aug 23, 2015, 08:27 AM »

for pridealchemist. i promised i´d upload. sorry but i dont think i´ll get this finished too soon.

i wanted this leema image to be some sort of cover for the bb i´m working on. well didnt plan to do a cover but i liked the sketch. i thought id be nice to place her past and current design side by side and colour it in a way that displays the mood she would have been portraied in.
i still think i´d be a nice idea but this way i dont think it would work. so what do i do with this in my head?

i enjoy seeing some naturalism studies there. but maybe get some studies going caring for a specific region from time to time.
while your portrait and fullbody does look fine in proportions you dont seem to understand some regions (especially eyes)
i think you would profit greatly from this.

i´m not sure how to critique on your other pieces... there is so much difference in quality i cant grasp what is on purpose and what is really your level.

thought i could post this here too.
i talked to some of you in the chat and tried to follow the guidance. but since it was a christmas present and actual my first ever finished portrait this might be good the way it is. feeling i couldnt do much better at this point.

hope you like it. critique is still appreciated.

former layout

uhm... im not sure what to think about it. i was messing around with the lines cause i really had no better idea of what i could do.

bobo yeah i know what you mean... the feel way more zoomed in than i planned to... i´m not sure what i can do about it. the thick lines indicate it nearer and my inks would be way thinner anyway with the trees being obviously further away...
i just need to sit down on this... its a huge pain in the ass actually for me.

the bottom part is two panels... i wanted to sort of copy the picture and just add the crater and person but with this layout in the first panel it wouldnt have worked out so i tried something else.
i guess i have to make a better effort cause i feel this effect would work better than this.

thanks guys.

just keep working.
i´m still surprised to see you using illustrator for the lines but you must know that for yourself. MS is still a good choice however you use it.
would love to see your guy around here.
oh and dont overthink your pages maybe. i understand the urge to give it your best and droping try after try but it get you nowhere.
trust me i do that since i joined and thats a looooooooong time and i didnt achieve a thing. (negative example work best ;))
