He was once an African witch's familiar, as well as her lover. When she died, he grieved for 100 years. He is now searching for a new purpose, or another master. (I have more of a story, but I'll save it for the comics.)

- Immortal until killed
- Bulletproof, Stab-proof

- Can't drown
- Can drain people's life-force through vampiric blood feeding.

Weaknesses (taken from folklore)
- Must periodically feed on blood to survive
- Women who are exceptionally aware or perceptive can see through his human disguise
- Can be killed by fire

spit spat, time to chat / Protecting your art from theft
« on: Jan 10, 2014, 10:58 AM »
As creators of art in this age of digital sharing, it's a very real problem that we face. People who are sh*thead rat bastards are going to steal your art and either use it to make money without your permission, or claim that they did it.

I wanted to share this website that I found a while back.

It allows you to upload an image, tag it with a unique code (a digital "fingerprint") and the site will periodically scan the internet for instances of the image being used.

I'm not sure how effective it is, or how it it comes into play legally if you need to confront an art thief, but it is a start.

Do any of you have ways you know of or want to share about protecting your art online? Any tools like this one?

I figured we can all use some encouragement when it comes to our craft.

Do you have a quote or blog post from one of the big names of the Comics Industry that gives you the power to draw on? Share them with us!

I recently started following Brian Michael Bendis on Tumblr (you should too, he posts awesome obscure comic art and answers loads of Asks), but this recent answer to a fan's question caught my eye. He details the journey he went through to eventually get hired as a writer by Marvel.

It helps to know that one of the biggest names on comics had to start somewhere.

THE INCUBATOR / James "Flyboy" Barcus
« on: May 15, 2013, 08:50 PM »
UPDATE: NEW DESIGN SHEET, NEW ABILITIES

James Barcus
Aliases: Flyboy
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 210 lbs*
Race: Greek/American

Abilities: Small arms training, Hand to hand combat training
Powers: Flight (max speed Mach 1), Strength (2 tons max lift), Durability (*super dense musculature, skeleton, skin). NOT BULLETPROOF.

James Barcus was part of a special black ops team in the New American army along with several other metahumans. His natural ability to fly at Mach 1 and his small size made him perfect for recon, but he was dishonorably discharged for striking a superior officer and anger issues.

James bums around the country, occasionally working construction jobs or lending a hand as local muscle. Since he can fly, he never pays for transportation. One of the only things he owns is the B-13 Flight Suit, which he stole from the army on his way out. It allows him to fly at full speed without tearing his skin off.

News & Events / The (super old) Void-Wiki
« on: May 12, 2013, 05:18 PM »
The Void Wiki has been around for a long time, and has kind of (completely) fallen out of current void memory and use.

However, it still works. But only if people take the time to update it.

This is just a reminder that it does exist, and you can still find info there. It's available to be used by those who want to use it.

Or you can leave it alone.

News & Events / Draw My Life - VOID EDITION
« on: Mar 28, 2013, 02:55 PM »
I was poking around on YouTube and I saw this video by Jenna Marbles. In it, she "draws" her life from the beginning to the present, all while narrating it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCxzaHC30Ec

Since we are an artistic bunch, I figured that this would be a cool exercise in storytelling. I'm still working balls out to graduate in 2 months (May), but I really want to do this, and I'd love for some of you cool folks to join me.

I guess the best method to do this is to do your narration first, and then figure out what you want to draw from there and record it.

News & Events / OFFICIAL VOID T-shirts - COMING SOON!
« on: Sep 18, 2012, 04:16 PM »
After some initial confusion, here it is: the official VOID T-Shirt thread.

WHAT'S THE DEAL?
As of right now, we will be gauging the interest for VOID t-shirts in general, as well as voting on several designs for the shirts. Not all the details have been worked out, but for starters, you can suggest and post your ideas for shirts and request certain designs. Right now we are going for very basic stuff, like quotes and logo treatments.

HEY, I WANT THE CHAINSAW LOGO ON A SHIRT!!!
I am working hard to try and locate an existing copy of the file that is big enough to print on shirts. IF YOU KNOW WHERE A COPY IS THAT'S BIGGER THAT 6000 PIXELS WIDE, LET ME KNOW!

I HAVE AN AWESOME IDEA FOR A DESIGN! HOW CAN I GET THAT IN?
Well, there's going to be a contest. After we find out how much interest there is in the shirts, there will be a design contest and the winner(s) will get their designs on official VOID shirts! STAY TUNED TO MORE DETAILS!!!

The service we will be printing with can be found here.

Resources & Tutorials / UNOFFICIAL VOID COMIC PAGE TEMPLATE
« on: Jun 29, 2012, 02:08 PM »
I was searching around on the old Google for a blue lined comic page template, and I realized that not that many were very good.

I also realized that many of the artists on VOID are doing digital comics now.

So... here is the UNOFFICIAL VOID COMIC PAGE TEMPLATE. (.PSD form, so you can slap it straight into photoshop)

*If you are using Photoshop, zoom in at 34.5% to draw at the size of real paper. This may vary depending on what size your display is.

I recently created an altered version of this template for a 2 page spread.

GO FOR BROKE! / BenT's Art Experiments (NSFW)
« on: Oct 30, 2010, 04:51 PM »
And here I shall post my latest results at practicing Illustration.

Pencils

This guy in similar in concept to a transformer, but no transforming. I guess you could say he's a primative transformer. Those rockets on his back are put in his staff. They don't shoot out, though. Just explode on impact. I don't think he talks either.

Crits Crits Crits!

GO FOR BROKE! / First attempt at Sequentials
« on: Sep 12, 2010, 12:02 AM »

I did this for the Sketchbook Project 2011, but I figured, why not make it practice for when I finally am ready to make a character.

Please critique, I'm ready to learn.
