Studying animation is also a very good process as well. finding stills from animation and breaking it down into shapes drawing through them is a great process. one I recomend for fight scenes is God of Highschool.

News & Events / The Great Escalation Tournament

The Great Escalation Tournament

We at EnterVOID understand that things are difficult right now in light of world events.  So, we’re coming at you HOT and setting your world ON FIRE. Get ready for the Great Escalation Tournament!

The concept for this brand new tournament type is rather simple, but with some new rules added into the mix.  Each round will increase in intensity as it goes on!

Round 1: Normal battle match; losers are eliminated from the tournament bracket but goes about their way with only the bitter sting of defeat.

Round 2: Scar match with all the rules that apply; losers leave with permanent and lasting reminders of their loss.

Round 3: Death matches where the opponent’s lives are on the line!

Round 4:  And the final ultimate victor will be decided in an annihilation match.  Surpassing death, the loser will cease to exist.

Do you think you’re up to the task?  Do you think you can handle this kind of combat throwing everything Void has at you?  Then sign right up!

Sign-ups: Now -  March 30th.
Round 1 Start: April 1st.
Round lengths: 2 weeks

The tournament anticipates a maximum of 16 participants but if we exceed 16, then administration will cut it down to 16. Signing up for the tournament does not guarantee participation. Cuts will be made based on a variety of factors, including your participation in previous tournaments, your recent default record, and the ratio of seasoned VOID vets and new folks. Please understand that making cuts is always very difficult for us.
Please also be aware if the number is under 16 that 3 way matches may occur.
New characters as well as existing characters are available for sign ups.  Because of the complexity of this event, character teams will not be allowed.  Borrowed characters will be allowed.  New characters that are eliminated will revert to provisional status following the tournament following Battle Pass rules.  Defaulting on the first round and not submitting a comic makes new members ineligible for Battle Pass activation.

IN-DEPTH RULES:

To reiterate this is a 4 round escalating tournament with four match types rolled into it.  Disqualifications will occur if you fail to depict your opponent in your comic and if you fail to follow the regular rules of the match type for that round.  (i.e. depicting a scar in the scar match round, depicting character death in the death round, etc.)

FIRST ROUND: Normal Battle, with normal battle guidelines.  Winner moves on to round two and loser is eliminated from the bracket.

SECOND ROUND: Contestants must follow normal scar match rules.  Opponent’s scars must be clearly depicted in the comic.  Winner moves on and the loser will receive the scar and become inactive until such time that their artist updates the ref sheet with said scar.

THIRD ROUND: Contests must follow normal death match rules.  Opponent’s death must be clearly depicted and the losing character will have their status changed to Dead.  They will no longer be able to participate in normal matches with the exception of Annihilation, Month of the Dead or Special Events.

FINAL ROUND: Final match will be a special Annihilation match with an exemption made in this case.  Normally, Annihilation pits dead character against dead character with the losing character being erased from existence and no longer eligible for any match or tournament types save for Beyond Battles.  In this case, the losing finalist will cease to exist and achieve Annihilated Status.
For further clarification of each match type, please refer to this section of the Help Guide:
http://help.entervoid.com/comic-battle-types/

Only one character can win and surpass this tournament unscathed to be crowned the World’s Best Escalator!  Is it you?

SIGN UPS ARE BEING DONE IN THE DISCORD
To sign up post the character reference of the character you wish to use in the great escalations thread in the discord.

Probably should have worked on my grammar after moving to the states but after a decade my accent is american but i still type like a 5th grader hopefully its not too annoying.

But i introduced myself last year and kinda didnt return and made the account years before that. Im in a stable situation where ive been back on the art horse and am ready to get into comics.
welcome back, do you have any ideas for your character idea and intro comic? also make sure to check out the discord as that's where a lot of the social interaction activity is.

As an artist you will be harsh on yourself at least 95% of the time, and this isn't isn't really any different.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBE-RTFkXDk
First of all this video has some great exercises to practice for better line art. Also keypoints to take away is to taper off lines and to not keep trying to fix lines (which are both things i kind of have been doing a lot recently) I also hated my inking a bunch but now i think it's the thing i can do best with my art. one thing that helps a lot is inking other people's sketches, inking someone else's work has a very different feel than inking your own stuff.

All the brushes you mentioned aren't really inking pen tools, try playing around with some of the pen tools and then adjusting them and making those duplicate brushes and keep playing around till you find ones you like.

I like this idea and that's looking really cool so far. are the ghostly chorus their own unique characters or are they just spirits he manifests to fit the situation or song he's doing?
Do you have plans for his intro comic?
I look forward to seeing more.

O that's looking really cool so far, is his fortune telling done with the cards?
Also how much can his powers alter fate, it will be cool to see that represented in comic form.

Hey guys! i'm so sorry i suddenly vanished...
[member=13556]Shen[/member] sent me an invite to the Entervoid Invitational Tournament but since i couldn't reply because their inbox is full i'll write it here:

I actually planned to challenge a lot of characters from the site, with Sovereign Greece as my first option...
but not long before finishing my intro comic i lost my job and i'm having to do commissions ever since.
But! it's not that bad, i've been wanting to draw something that's not related to commissions these days so i will think about entering the tournament.
Oh and Shen please let me know when/if you're avaible to battle against Gutsmasher! i still want to challenge Greece so much :)

sorry if i can't post this on the incubator, i didn't know were else to write this (if you know were, pls tell me lol).

O damn that sucks to hear you lost your job. hopefully with commissions you will be able to get into a more stable place soon. also the most active place currently is the discord as that is where everyone generally talks, but it's fine to post here.

Hi guys! My name is Kat! I joined up years and years ago, but was always too intimidated to post anything. I think that was five years ago???

I was wondering if the site was still active, and here I am now to try and do what my younger self was too scared to do - post a character and a comic! I'm blown away by the talent and characters here!!!! I'm really excited to be a part of the community, for real this time.

Edit: I can't remember my password, so there's an extremely high chance I'm gonna remake my account - oops!
Hey welcome and I look forward to seeing your art, you should make an incubator thread so we can see your process and help you if you have any questions. also most of the acitivity is on the discord so you can get much quicker responses there in general

That looks pretty good for your style and while i'm not on the approval committee I would say your technical art abilities when it comes to characters is clearly good enough, since you clearly understand proportion and stuff.
However there are more things you will need to show in your intro to make sure you get accepted. The main thing is to make sure to show that you are able to do environments and backgrounds. i would also say if you can use a program and get a free font to use over handwriting to make sure it's all readable.
also here's an example of the lower end of art that can be accepted: http://entervoid.com/comic/6388
You already show more competency than me when it comes to characters so I'm pretty sure you can make it just make sure to do environments and backgrounds for your comic. Also you can always directly DM someone form the approval committee before submitting. that's what I did to make sure my 3rd attempt got accepted.

Hey all! I go by Cy or Beau, I've been a member of the site since last year but am only getting round to drawing up my character sheet now, so I thought it would be a good time to introduce myself!

I'm a Zoology student who does art on the side, I've always wanted to get into comics but have been scared of all the angles and box making. Figured I should just go ahead and try anyway ;v;b
Welcome I look forward to seeing your character, feel free to make an incubator thread so we can see it and answer any questions you have about comic making.

Welcome glad you like the site and when you get a character going feel free to make a thread in the incubator thread as well as post in the incubator channel on the discord.

Hello friends... my name is Brian Crowley. I draw and write a webcomic called Hamster Rage.
My buddy Andrew Leonardo Michael Misisco told me about EnterVoid and it blew my mind. I crave critique now!

My webcomic is here:
https://www.hamsterrage.com/

and I'm currently running a Kickstarter here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hamsterrage/hamster-rage-chapter-1-roosevelt-vs-everyone
Welcome to void, and getting a character into void and doing battles is a great way to improve, it has helped me a bunch the past year and I look forward to seeing your stuff. are you planning on bringing a character from your webcomic onto void?

Surprised I didn't post Nega-Harlow here since he's become a full blown NPC now

Garland Steelestring
An exile of Opalhaven who is an abnormalist, an engineer that focuses on prosthetic related to/for those with meta powers. However his time at the void morgue he has become more of a Necromechanic, working on corpses of dead metas replicating their powers through tech, and having their corpses in a doll state of living.
An individual who believes the best course of action for metas is for them to die and then turn them into dolls to make them have a happier less painful life.
Around others he is also charismatic and quite charming leaving a good first impression with most, pretty much constantly lying through his teeth.
http://entervoid.com/index.php?action=playlists;id=198 here's the playlist with comics that feature him.

She's looking good so far.
In terms of being fit for void backstory isn't as important as your leniency with where they will go.
Void has a wild variety of characters the when bringing a character to void it's a good idea to have them have enough options to interact with most as well as being able to learn or change from the interactions you can't predict. Having one hard canon your character needs to follow doesn't work on void because people will do different things with your characters that you can't predict. so make sure when bringing in a character to void that you are willing to change and adapt their story in ways you weren't planning.

o that's cool you already have the design prepared for her and you can upload the intro with a longer hieght than normal, the width should be 1000 px becuase any wider is too big for the screen. also feel free to post your progress here and in the discord. I look forward to seeing your work.
