Crocostyle:
Cheers, I appreciate the enthusiasm!

Brentony:
Thank you!
I just checked out Melchom and can see how this is directly up your street. These two are going to have to meet. It's too perfect.

Charlie:
I don't deserve 70% of this caps.

ROFL:
Trading in stern for sass was the easiest decision I've ever made.

Radji:
We've inadvertently started a cult.

Zig:
Weirdly, I always had it in the back of my head that if these characters went live action they'd be prosthetics and puppetry. Not the first time I've had the muppet comment either!

THE INCUBATOR / Characters with weird heads.

Rather than excavate a fossilised incubator thread, I'll just roll with this one.

Truss is showy, hyper violent and quick to anger.
He's magic as all hell and can materialise a bunch of extra stretchy bendy arms at will for fighting.
I'm not gonna explain why/how. (MYSTERY)

Truss mostly hunts down magical items for a shady boss who has him completely under his thumb for some reason. (MORE MYSTERY)
Turns out Truss hates that and although he follows his instructions to the letter, he'll take any opportunity he can to misinterpret and misbehave.
Truss is pretty proud and does stupid stuff to prove a point. He can get hurt, but heals quickly. Can be weak to magical (or anti-magical?) methods.

He knows he looks good even though his head looks like it does.
I always knew I was gonna do a red character with a T shaped head and that is a strange thing to know about yourself.

On to pages then.

THE INCUBATOR / Re: Wallace, last names are overrated
« on: Jun 14, 2015, 11:10 AM »
Hey, it's good to see all the development work being done!

One great thing is Wallace is very recognisable in all your images. You're certainly not suffering from redrawing your character identifiably, which is super important!
He has a kinda perma-smirk going on here. I think that's what Dino is referring to (smirking dudes come off as dicks and make us wanna punch 'em). Now that's not something we often see in real life, though there are exceptions. And it's good to see that it's mixed up a bit in your test pages here, but just bear in mind "If a guy becomes a douche and nobody's around to see it, does it make a smirk?"

Another thing that has jumped out is his most common pose. On your new design sheet, and a few other images here, he has two bent legs. One forward facing, the other in profile. I'm noticing two potential issues. The first is that his shins are too long compared to his thighs. It's certainly very easy to draw knees too high, and I would just urge you to check that. Knees should just be half way down It also seems as if his heels are together, so rather than appearing in the 'relaxed' pose that I think you were going for, it seems closer to a weird squat. The biggest tip I would give is thinking about why you would bend your legs. It's a case of balance mostly. A character with a straight back is gonna need straight legs to keep him upright. If his legs are bent however, he's gonna need to lean/hunch in order to balance that out. So Wallace would look a lot more natural with either straight legs, or throw a little bend in that back, have him lean forward slightly because as he stands now, he's on the brink of toppling backwards.

I mean, really, the simplest thing to do is either physically, or mentally draw a line from between the centre of the characters feet directly upwards. Equal amounts of 'weight' should fall on each side to pull off a balanced look. This obviously doesn't apply to action shots blah blah.

The image of Wallace leaning on the wall is great though. Your legs are proportioned really well and his weight is well distributed.

Regarding your intro story, think about what you want to tell us. What is gonna add flavour to Wallace, and any cool tidbits for potential opponents?
At the moment we find out he's in Void (kind of a given).
And after starting his vlog he openly admits to having nothing to vlog about. I know it's simply an intro comic, but if he's gonna vlog I think it would be more engaging for the viewers to see him enthusiastic about it. If we see your character being apathetic we're less likely to engage. Maybe seeing him casually using the water powers to move his camera or arrange shots would be a more natural and interesting way of revealing that information to us. Either way, I think having him film himself is a creative way to do it.

Aside from that, don't be afraid of planning out pages small, and in a way that reflects the final dimensions of your comic page. Take it from me, it's gonna save a lot of annoying resizing and redrawing down the line if you're trying to cram shots in.

Keep at it, and looking forward to colour!

Some of you guys are aware, but I got a little animation in me.

But would be most down with doing backgrounds if they're needed. Just hit me up with messages if anyone wants to discuss.
I like nicely rendered stuff mostly:

Continuing the theme of head-shots.
Doodling on my downtime, decided to finish this as I'm all excited and whatnot.
No idea why it's a polaroid , even less idea as to why dipuc posed.

YES FRAZ YOU DID IT I AM SO EXCITED NOW!!

Aw shucks, man.
If it wasn't tempting enough I get to throw down with you and ROLFQU, so I think it's time.

Sitting comfortably at full chub, I have been dying to see you back.

Apparently dying was the only way I could come back.
But this makes me really happy.

And now Sixtem's along for the ride, so I have even more to prove.
Couldn't be more excited!

THE INCUBATOR / Re: Crazyhand/Allen

Haha, maybe you should pick one sooner rather than later incase your writers think you're stringing them along. If you love them, let them go.

And you can have more than one character. They wouldn't be submitted as a pair. Although it's frowned upon to submit a second character after only just submitting the first. There is no reason however that you can't submit again later on.

THE INCUBATOR / Re: Crazyhand/Allen

Hey there!

Before I start, what's the deal with Crazyhand now, are we dropping him or just throwing out other ideas? I don't want you to spread yourself too thin. Believe me, I know how easy it is to get swept up in ideas and not be able to follow through.

Okay, so on the subject of Crazyhand's swanky design sheet, it's looking pretty good. He looks a little on the short side. Not saying that's a bad thing. If that happens to be your intention, then great! I also want to comment on his chain. It looks like he's got his arms chained together? Each to their own, but in my opinion having my good hand tethered to my extra-dimensional-seeing-hand is gonna make certian things preeeetty difficult, especially with it looking at me, you know what I'm sayin'?

And how adorable does that hand look.

Right, on to Allen. Allen surprised me. He looks like a pretty placid, well rounded fella. Gauntlets aside. Then we realise he gets his kicks from death metal and the screams of the tortured? I'm down with that. It's a nice juxtaposition. Very Bateman. But reading that he can have any woman, kill any man and not be arrested kinda makes him sound like a bit of a God character. We don't want your writer (and readers!) getting bored of him because he doesn't face any struggles. It would be much more interesting if he had to keep his bludgeoning habit a secret from the police, wouldn't it?

And as an overall note, Base, don't be afraid of details. It's fantastic to see that you are focusing on body shape, character design and even perspective, but it's good to remember things like shirts having buttons, belts having holes, and shoes maybe  having laces. Just little things like this can really help ground a design. A great design is often based on great functionality. (Thanks Uncle Ben)

I'm eager for your updates, fella.

I'm totally rooting for frazzler; pretty hardcore first match!

Hardcore is right. I'm humbled and bloody honoured. Pretty sweet entrance if you ask me.

LeFred, your support is very much appreciated.

You can't change anything, because then it won't be what people signed up for.

But I think the remaining guys should pool together and do something anyway. I can imagine voting for this will be a nightmare and I know RolfQu shares the sentiments of creating something for those who miss out.

I don't reckon this should stop anyone from getting some blood on their hands. Just sayin'

Anyways, I'm calling it a night. I'll be back in the mornin', and I hope to see one badass match-up.

Good luck guys.

Name: Frank Macrae.
Age: 45
Race: Undefined Alien Species.

Macrae is a doer. He has been his entire life. A problem solver. Anything anyone needs done, they can count on Frank... on two conditions. Firstly, Frank is for hire. Always has been, he's a service and that's how he works best. But fundamentally Frank has one flaw. He's a nice guy. He'll negotiate, only if the deal's worth doing. He'll kill, only if the target's bad enough. He'll steal, only if the owner's rich enough. But this is just the basic package, there's not much Frank hasn't done.

For the past seven years, Frank has been married to Jess. Jess recently left Frank on financial grounds. With Frank imposing such restrictions on himself, he wasn't as wealthy as his contacts. There was a much finer class of criminal out there, with fewer morals and a lot more money. With Frank refusing to change his beliefs, Jess left him, and didn't leave him with much.

Frank currently lives with his Father. And even though he's aggressive, offensive and loud, he'd kill for his son, and being a retired man of crime himself, probably has. In his down time between jobs, Macrae works in his Dad's Video Rental store, Stu's Silver Screen, slowly trying to get himself back on his feet.

Frank Macrae is a serious, composed guy. Any practical problem, he can most probably solve, but when it comes to keeping his life in order, he usually falls short. He is a rough and ready guy who is rarely pushed over the edge. He's also picked up his Fathers less than elegant vocabulary.

Pushed for time, but done.

I have stuff.
Thought I'd share.

For my Graphic Communication project. The mouth opens out. I thought it was pretty nifty.

Brand Logo, again for Graphic Communication.

Angry mouse is angry.

Did this for an Art project on the combination of human and animal form. Not as finished as I'd like, but sometimes you just have to leave these things.

I can't believe how digital this all is, I'll shoot for some sketches next post.
