Because it's just that good.
Because it's just that good.
it was good....you should read Cerebus the Aardvark by Dave Sim......all umpityzillion issues
I haven't been picking up comics lately, but I did get Marvel Zombies for my birthday last year. it's an entertaining read, especially if you, like me, have no idea why the fuck Silver Surfer has so many fans.
you know, ive been thinking about reading BONE. is it worth it?

cus he's one of the only superheros worth more than a pile of crusty shit! he's silver and rides a surfboard through space, what's not to love??
The art style looks pretty damn cool in my opinion too, she makes excess use of Watercolors, resulting in something pretty appealing.
Kozi, Heavy Metal ran a few issues of the Skydoll issue in their summer edition last year, you can buy it here:
http://www.metaltv.com/showitem.cfm?Itemnum=4329
All that for 7 bucks doesn't sound too bad.
so yeah, i'm pretty much an Ultimates series fag : D
Hey Loki, that looks like quite an interesting series :0 Scan some pages in- I'm up for a read. I'm dazzled by the backgrounds.
Blacksad -- I don't know, a lot of people have never heard of it, but I got some hard copies from my illustration teacher in French and it took me a little while to find some of it in English. Worth it however: classic noir themes, like what a black and white movie would be in color (and with anthros). Beautifully written and everything.
One of my current top favorite comics of all, Sky Doll. Last year Heavy Metal brought out a 2006 summer special issue that contained the first three SkyDoll stories dubbed in english. Kozi already scanned some pages , but I figured I'd scan a page to show that indeed there was an official translation done with the comic.Someone please rapid share the first volume or something I would love you guys dearly, cause I really wanna read it but I'm broke off my ass. xD
I'm surprised no one has mentioned NEXTWAVE: AGENTS OF H.A.T.E yet! Hilarious book that actually makes me laugh when reading it!

Just plain awesome art by Stuart Immonen too.
I've been reading Skydoll myself. Just waiting for the 4th installment patiently. I can hook you up, RJ. Just IM me during the evening.
Aside from Skydoll, there's Blade of the Immortal, I guess that would be it. =\
didn't even know there was a comic series till now...
written by Rick Remender...
Word on the Don Rosa love. For fans of his stuff, I found this (http://duckman.pettho.com/tree/v_american.html) to be both enlightning and entertaining.
I picked up two issues of Punisher War Journal because of Fraction, and it's quite good... which is surprising, since I haven't read a Punisher book since he was a manga-nized angel running around in sewers with Wolverine. ... yeah, that's a time best left forgotten.(http://timbradstreet.typepad.com/photos/recent_cover_illustration/punisher6bw.jpg)
I've been really getting into the Ultimates series of comics (ultimate spiderman, ultimate galactus, fantastic four, x-men, etc.). I blame my brother for this, haha.
Ultimate fantastic four has been my comics bread n' butter for the past while, though. I always loved fantastic four, and how their adventures were so ridiculously awesome and pseudo-sciencey. Having adventures on electrons, and the fucking awesome N-zone aspects and just...bdkhsfjdnsj. I love the fantastic four.
Ultimate spiderman is also my favorite spidey series. I like how he's a high school kid with teenage issues and all that shit. I never liked the grown-up married-to-mary-jane spiderman. Ultimate spidey seems so much more real, y'know? Not that being married made him any less real in the other series', but...i dunno, the sarcastic and nerdy comments he makes as spidey seem to make more sense knowing that he's some 17/18 or so year old kid who's trying to pass the PSAT and has to save the city from the shocker or whoever else.
so yeah, i'm pretty much an Ultimates series fag : D

Seriously. Life and times of Scrooge McDuck is probably the best thing Disney has ever done. Don't let the whole "Corporate juggernaut squeezing the artistic life out of everything it touches" thing fool you. Don Rosa just loves the character, and uses him so well it hurts.
Don't Fuck with Mcduck.
KING CITY!!! BEST COMIC OUT TO READ RIGHT NOW NO FUCKING JOKE!

I've been reading Nothing Better recently, I love the writing and the art's simple, charming, and effective. And- best of all -IT'S FREE!

Check it out.
WOLVERINE ORIGINS.I dunno, I just picked up the first issue on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY, and the revelation that the guy was a werewolf was really... lame. I don't like oblivious characters, but I don't like characters that just blurb out the plot like the dialog was just the outline.
I'm a Wolvie dork, but i've never read this, so i am doing now, pretty good.
I caught up with American Virgin today (Issues 10-14) loviiing it.
ASTOUNDING WOLFMAN is a cool read, i'm not sure about the art, it's waaaay stylistic and good, but it seems a little too cartoony for the subject matter.
I need to visit a comic shop more often and find some more underground shit.
HunterXHunter is pretty good, i didn't like it too much at first and the story is starting to get to me at the moment (i'm at just where Kurapika has gone back with "The boss" and Killua and Gon are in GI) i kinda wish they did more HUNTING, the opening sequence with that bear like thing and the fish really got my hopes up for a huge manga MONSTER HUNTING romp and it just failed to deliver :(
That's another thing that annoyed me with Wolfman, that guy who wants to be his Mentor, STOP REVEALING THE PLOT YOU DOUCHE, YOU'RE JUST A DEVICE COS KIRKMAN IS LAZY.
In all actuality, i'm a huge Kirkman fan, Walking Dead and Invincible are some of my favourite reads out there.
Also, AJB is awesome.
I fully intend on buying King City on the 27th, when i get paid. I'll probably wait until Chicago now to buy Wonton Soup from James, and buy any books Marles and Gabo are selling. haha, such a voidfantard.

omgfgbsdmoffghpfjklg HunterXHunter! ;D <33
I knew there was a manga on it, but I never got a chance to read it. I did watch the anime though and I really liked it. I'm not sure how many changes they placed on the anime, but if anything, in retrospect, it really reminded me of Void! Especially the whole arena fighting. The begining I admit is pretty dull since its all establishing and set-up, but once it gets going its really interesting. I highly recommend it. ;)
Oh man OH MAN, Hunter X Hunter used to be like my FAVORITE comic, EVERRR. I thought the Hunter challenges and nen things were just so clever.....!! (*0* (But I stopped reading shortly after Greed Island because...?? The scanlation place I was reading them from took forever to release... :-\)
I see Hellboy junior in there?
I always wondered if it was any good.
Not that I can afford anything at the moment :D
maybe later I will scan some more pages, but seriously... this guy's style, angles, EVERYTHING is top notch.
this is his website
AND EVERYBODY SHOULD PICK UP HIS BOOK MASSIVE SWIRL.

MEANWHILE: Fuck it if it has an 8 page spread - The Ultimates is still boring, Paul Pope has descended too far into the realm of suck, Skotty Young still hasn't figured out that whole drawing thing, and Beserk is untouched as the best book being put out today.
ps - I tried to read an old popbot I found of mine, and I've come to the conclusion that Ashley Wood's comics are fairly unreadable.... HE's a good illustrator?? I just think he should stick to illustration. =/

I just think he should stick to illustration. =/Popbot is like a collection of Pinups with a common theme. Some of his actual comic work is alot easier to follow, like Metal Gear Solid or previews from that new Tank Girl Comic look like it'll be easy to read.
Hey, do you guys know anywhere i can get a copy of King City except TP, their shop doesn't like me or something and won't let me buy it.
Comic shops in the states can order King City right now, but it won't be in book stores until its been out for 6 months. I don't know the situation in the UK though. Just pop into your local comic shop and see if they can order it in otherwise you just might have to wait until you're in the states =P
HEY JAMES!!! WHen is that damn Wonton Soup comic coming out!? I WANT to be reading it so I can post here saying that I read it...damnit. Seriously, the dates are kinda screwy on Oni's site.
Yo enef! i'm reading Y the last man tooooooooo.
I got books 1-8 from my local libary thinking that was the whole series so i read them all withen 2 days, but noooooooooo book 9 is the final one.......bastards
This series is awesome, but it does scare the behjesus out of me though. It reminds me that women are scary :x
brave brave man...hard to admit you spoke too soon.....Saying you like Superman on Void is like coming out in the Bible belt.
....yah it's all about the team behind the book....just look at Hellblazer/John Constantine from team to team the quality went up and down....I personally preferred Ennis and Dillon's work over everyone elses.....I was very disapointed when they left...course they went on to do Preacher which was even better....but I was still disapointed
Saying you like Superman on Void is like coming out in the Bible belt.
.....and Ryp's stuff is reminiscent of Dillon except it has a level of detail that was always missing from his work
yah I'm not so crazy about the art either....it goes up and down fer me...the first couple of issues were better....but the story is still developing very well
see the thing fer me with Kirkman is I like what he does overall...I don't want to turn this into a Kirkman thread, but I do want to state why I don't like Invincible.
..I have enjoyed Walking Dead and Invincible and Brit..... but his artists on Invincible and Brit and especialy on Wolfman appear to be pulling more than their share of the weight and are keeping the various books alive for me
Top Ten, by Alan Moore, Gene Ha and Zander Cannon, from America's Best Comics
(http://www.fantasymundo.com/galeria/imagenes/Comics01/4729.jpg)
Imagine a futuristic American city designed by WWII science-nazis in which every single inhabitant has superpowers. That's Neopolis, a gigantic, strange beautiful city, and Top Ten is about a precinct of cops who take care of it.
The book is great, a mix of the wide cast and personal stories of a police procedural and the hijinks and craziness of a superhero book. It's kind of like Powers, but on speed. The writing from Alan Moore is fantastic, as per, and Gene Ha's art is fantastic, showcasing not only the the characters but also the incredible city they live in.
Also good is The Forty-Niners, a prequel set in a newly built Neopolis, circa 1949, and the influx of folks just coming off of the second World War. Rough and tumble cops, vampire mobsters, robot racism and more. Best read after Top Ten, though.
However, stay away from Top Ten: The Farthest Precinct. It was pretty bad, coming after the Moore/Ha run.
I read Scott Pilgrim Volume 1, i don't get the hype, the romantic comedy stuff was good, a guy with a teenage girlfriend finds another chick etc etc and it's good, it's funny, it's cute...then the action threw me out of whack and hurt my brain. Why have such TERRIBLE and WEIRD action in the back of the book? Stick with what was working, don't throw this FREAKY DANCE BATTLE in my face that makes no sense and doesn't work very well with the style of art you have chosen.
Murder. Conspiracy. Sub-zero temperatures. These are just a few of the twists and turns Faith Erin Hicks totally grabs you with, with her ICE comic. I don't know if she has plans to publish this, but God damn I hope so. Her sense of storytelling is superb. Not to mention her comics are the reference material I use to inspire myself. :) If you like great comics you don't want to miss this. http://www.realityfelon.com/Faith/ice/

Fraction's a champ, I haven't picked up Casanova yet though, I've been meaning to ever since I first met the man, but fundage hasn't been kind enough to allow me that privilege.
On the note of my collection, it's really starting to beef up and take shape, when i get paid this month i'm going to get a little extra than usual so i will be spending it on comics, just wondering if anyone has any suggestions, though to be fair that would require them to do a lot of searching through this thread to see what i already own, haha.
No way dude, Cigars of the Pharoah and Secret of the Unicorn are unbeatable!
The Best American Comics 2007
(http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/61A64hr6VEL._SS500_.jpg)
Still burning through this one but always a treat to see the different selections and their approaches to comics mmmhmmmm, works from 39 different artists from Crumb to Adrian Tomine.
UZUMAKI- probably one of the best comics i've ever read.omagod isn't that the same guy who did the comic about the people finding the holes which fit them perfectly? god i wish i could find more of his stuff..
also, calvin and hobbes, for life.
Define "Stores"
Watchmen is fantastic, though I tried to read From Hell and found it impenetrable. I'll give it another pass when I've got more time... so maybe on a plane ride to Japan or something when I've got nothing to do and loads of time to do it
He has one more comic I'm aware of, and you can bet I'm going to go find it.
Notes From a War Story

Dude you need to go back and post this two days ago, telling me its coming out tomorrow. Actually I think new comics day is today, Thursday, with Thanksgiving backing it up and all. Or are you still on Canada holidays or something? You heathen bastard.
Im picking this up, thats a promise from me.
Today while I was at the comic shop, blissfully unaware that James' book was on the shelf, I picked up Popgun. Yet another comic our friend mr Stokoe had his dirty mits in.
http://www.transmission-x.com/
there's a few worth looking at that site you linked James,go check out the other one by the same aritst 'Ragni'
http://www.kukuburi.transmission-x.com/
I was happy to see what Ramon Perez has been doing as I always liked his illustrations.....but I preferred the B+W style he was using a few years back as opposed to this.....still has great lines and forms..still dynamic..but it's lacking his blackwork and details....of course it's still stronger than Butternut Squash....I just wish it had the same level of color and tone as it did
the funny thing is I'm getting a real Jeff Smith- Bone vibe from both of them....

Just found this online, and it's kind of incredible.
My copy of Wonton Soup finally arrived(God that thing is near impossible to get in England, even on Amazon.co.uk).
Anyway, either i got a faulty copy or i'm missing something somewhere, i read up to the part where Johnny and Citrus are going to Citrus' school when something appears behind johnny, then the next page jumps all the way back to where Johnny and Citrus first meet after Johnny lands on Plaxos. Then it goes through the love scene again after it goes back to the scene where they are going to school again it skips FORWARD to after Johnny has gone to his teachers place and Deacon walks up saying he's hungry, then they start talking about the Twins(Not sure the exact story there because it isn't actually in my book) and carries on like nothing happened.
Anybody have similair problems or just me? Is their any news of any faulty copies of the book or am i just entirely missing some weird storytelling point?

I'M WAITING FOR THE OMNIBUS
6 February 2008 - After over a decade of anticipation, Rob Schrab returned to his seminal creation, SCUD THE DISPOSABLE ASSASSIN, but fans eager for a cover by him can only get it at this upcoming Wondercon.
"Ashley Wood, Jim Mahfood, Dave Hartman and Doug Tennapel have been big supporters since the beginning and it meant a lot to have them covering #21-24," said Schrab. "However, as I finished the final pages I couldn't resist the itch to illustrate one last SCUD cover myself."
SCUD: THE DISPOSABLE ASSASSIN #21 is the first of four issues detailing SCUD's mission to destroy the planet in exchange for saving his lover's soul. Schrab's cover features SCUD emerging into the world, ten years later, mere seconds before he finds out nothing is as he remembers.
SCUD: THE DISPOSABLE ASSASSIN #21 (DEC072049), a 32-page black and white comic book for $3.50 featuring a cover by ROBOTS VS. ZOMBIES' Ashley Wood, will be in stores this Wednesday. The variant edition will only be available during WonderCon, February 22-24th, at the Image Comics booth (#509).

Can anyone recommend a wicked solid comic by Moebius that would be available in Canada?
I saw some pics from metal hurlant and prefer that to the stuff i have seen with bad coloring that
was written by jodorowsky.
I am also on the lookout for some Tintin comics.
...Also, are you talking about the shitty reprint of The Incal by Humandoids/DC they put out recently, with the butchered re-colors? Stay away from that. Far far away.
It broke my heart to see the homeo-slut with a badly done gradient.

Powerup Comics (http://www.drunkduck.com/Powerup_Comics/index.php?p=412923) is amazing for making you feel really good about the comics you make.Wait -- this comic isn't serious, guys. It's a parody of webcomics that's intentionally horrible.

They are porn comics basically, but that dudes painting and cross hatching is to die for.
Oh god his crosshatching is insane. I found this book in english at a yard sale. The plot actually isn't that bad. The comic still actually unnerves me though.

LOL I think it's funny that everyone on that Masters of Evil miniseries cover except for Dr. Doom himself, is basically a Spiderman villain. But hey he's got some of the more memorable ones. I'll have to look into that though, it looks awesome.

Recently after playing some Sly Cooper games while my battle was being voted on, I stumbled upon the company's website and found this comic for free!
http://www.suckerpunch.com/images/stories/comic1.zip
Awesome 24 page comic with some outstanding art and a great storyline. Best of all, it's free to download too! Their next game Infamous is looking to have some great artwork as well.
Bee Power
didn't know so many people here liked tony moore. huh. yeah i always kind of liked his stuff but only because it sometimes seemed like a slightly rougher quicker version of art adams; with a lower ratio of mall hair chicks but less monkeys & godzillas. because let's face it: monkeys & godzillas rock!!
adam warren is awesome too. i read the first 2 volumes of empowered. it's pretty tight!
(http://www.popguncomics.com/pgv3ban2.jpg) (http://www.popguncomics.com/)
finally also got my copy of popgun 3 & got the chance to read through it some. i might be biased because he's on here & rad & all, but andre's strikes me as the real stand out. also really liked the stuff by nic klein (http://www.nic-klein.com/), ulises farinas (http://ulisesfarinas.com/) connor willumsen (http://connorwillumsen.blogspot.com/) & holy shit, finally looks like sam mackenzie (http://samsamsamsam.com/) got around to doing a damn comic!
Titans is good stuff ;)
That first JLA arc, as well (I sorta stopped reading after the Injustice League story, but can't wait until James Robinson and Mark Bagley take over!)

the story of the last super hero's left on the planet
Haha when someone says something is just that terrible, I can't help but want to see how terrible it is for myself. Really, truly terrible indeed. Why did anyone think they could get away with that? Eh anyways. I really liked Invincible but I lost track along the way. I know what's vaguely happening in the series so I should buy the paperbacks or something and catch up.(http://www.marvelcomics.pl/stuff/covers/ultimatum/ultimatum_5@p.jpg)

I flipped through that at my comic shop yesterday - god.awful.dreck

Invincible gets amazing dudes. The Analogues in invincible are nothing but jokes really, the book is way more than that. Even if Omni-man is a Superman rip, Kirkman takes that shit in a whole nother direction.
Shaolin Cowboy...isn't that made by the Wachowski Brothers or something? The Matrix guys? And don't they have some Frankenstein comic too?
"Eyeshield 21", a football manga. I'm not even into football, but it's good stuff nevertheless.
Particularly fun to read because the quarterback's a psychopath sadist.
hulking red necks
Yeah, I've had rotten luck with reading good comics lately.
no seriously....why haven't you bought this yet?
no seriously....why haven't you bought this yet?
Because my butt hasn't made it out to a comic store in a while :( I'll just order it online
Everyone must read Death Day right now:
http://www.samhiti.com/
THERE IS NO EXCUSE.
This thing is like semi graphic novel, as the artist reinterprets some of HP Lovecraft's most well known tales with mind boggling detail. Really it is amazing to see. Then the middle of the book is some wierd Sepirothic/Old Ones fusion prayer crap wierd shit by Alan Moore. Then the final few pages are the most insane drawings I have ever seen from another comic that the artist worked on. Batshit insane I tell you. Apparently he's friends with Giger.
AXE COP
http://www.axecop.com/
It's a super badass webcomic about a badass cop with an axe, written by a 5-year-old and drawn by his 29-year-old brother.

Mark Millar tends to write what I like to read. With Old Man Logan, the trend continues. Though if you hate Wolverine or Marvel in general, I don't know if it'd do you any good. If you don't care one way or the other, still check it out.
Also it holds my personal record of badassing up a totally lame villian.
Why are they going down?!
Why are they going down?!
Because reading fan scanned and translated manga online for free is apparently illegal. Who knew?
I'm also eagerly awaiting the release of the last Scott Pilgrim volume this month. It's this month, right?
The manga companies have never really gone out of their way to do anything about it until now, is the way i am understanding it.
Apparently the majority of major manga companies have now contacted the major sites and told them to stop.
My beef is that it takes so long for translations to hit our shores, what are we supposed to do now? wait a year and a half for the stories etc to catch up?
I liked Ultimate Spider-man up until issue 100 or so when they changed artists and stuff.
Hellboy has great art but every time I've tried to read it I get terribly bored.
I liked Ultimate Spider-man up until issue 100 or so when they changed artists and stuff.
When I went back to the first issues and saw Mark Bagley's work it's like somebody spat in my eye.
Started collecting One Piece now that they have the 3 volumes in 1 books for about $15 each. It's good but everybody already knows that.
Perhaps they might have it on an online bookstore, maybe a French one?
So I just bought and read I Kill Giants. It's a damn good book. 'Nuff Said.
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=user_review&id=2465I didn't know they had translated Mad Bull 34..
Anyone read Manly Guys Doing Manly Things?
thepunchlineismachismo.com (http://thepunchlineismachismo.com)
So apparently Archie Comics has announced that they are launching a Megaman comic. As a megaman fanatic I don't know how I feel about this...
Damnit Spaz, what the hell has happened to you. You know I was getting my hopes up a bit because the cover art wasn't too bad, neither were some of the concept sketches that Spaz had put out when they revealed this. His covers for a couple of the upcoming Sonic issues were looking better than his recent stuff...
But now he is back to this. He used to be so awesome back in the day, what happened =(.
I'd really like to have a nice stack shot like Toast posted earlier, but my camera's shit & it's too much of a hassle for me to upload.I took that picture with my phone... turned out much larger than I thought it would, which worked out kinda well to get all the titles and creator names

read it.
... to pick up Sheldon's issue of Deadpool...
great art considering that it was all done by hand.
great art considering that it was all done by hand.
wait... what?! aren't comics inherently done by hand?
Huh so Sheldon did the art for this week's Deadpool.

There're like eight-two deadpool titles out every month. Which one?
Yes Uncanny X-Force: The Apocalypse Solution is out.

I think we can all tell my taste in story. But seriously, all I read anymore is Noir or detective stories. Moritat and Sean Murphy Gordon are my big inspirations right now as well.
As more of a side discussion, who else is getting beyond sick of all the marketing ploy/bottom fell out of the barrel half assed cross title events both DC and Marvel keep crapping out?
I mean if every day is the end of the world you start wishing it would just end already.....less than stellar so-called blockbuster after so-called blockbuster....and it actually screws with what development there is in some of the titles...
...oh and Bucky is alive and is now Captain America and Captain America is Nick Fury and Robin is Batman and Batman is outsourcing and Green Lantern isn't Green anymore he's black...no he's blue....no he motherfucking Fuchsia and The Human Torch is Dead and now Spider-man(!??!) is a member of the Fantastic Four....but they aren't The FF anymore and Spidey is an Avenger too...along with Wolverine who is an X-man and part of X-Force.....and...and...and....OH GOD please buy more of our comics...
BLEH!

What happened to "hey Joker is killing people, Batman! stop the Joker!" Was that basic premise not good enough to work with?
Also, on another note, I hate that comics Joker was given that scar to be like the Heath Ledger Joker.
Well it's not consistent. It depends on the artist. The Joker Graphic Novel which actually came out around the same time as the movie has the Chelsea Smile (though the artist claims he came up with the concept on his own and had nothing to do with Heath Ledger) but most comics have inconsistent ways of drawing his smile. In fact, in his recent Action Comics appearance he just has some drawn black lines to suggest a curly cartoonish smile.

If only I could find a similar one-liner to sum up DC.
But I like Jubilee as a vampire. She's a million times more interesting now than well...she's ever been.I don't really have an opinion either way, but I like that it bugs Dan.
recently I finished reading Spiderman Birth of Venom and Green Lantern Secret Origins
If you read Secret Origins, then you're well on your way to reading the Blackest Night event. I highly recomend it. there are multiple torrents and downloads out there with all the tie-ins. It's super creepy and lots of people die.

I'd even go so far to say that tsutomu nihei bridged the gap between the graphic novel and manga.
This is a pretentious crock of bullshit.
I wouldn't say it can compete with something on the level of Blankets or Black Hole . . . deserves the title of "novel"I think I'm gonna echo Will on this one: This is a pretentious crock of bullshit. These lines are everything that is wrong with comics today. Can we stop fellating literature due to a comic inferiority complex and use terms not dependent on quality? Doing so is like comparing apples and oranges, as the comics you mentioned are all attempting entirely different things.
No BenT, you are always the hipster.
And then BenT drank Pabst.
Anyone other than me and Kent reading The New 52? any thoughts? has DC finally fucked themselves out? Or is this the coolest shit ever?
The reboot is unapologetically a way to make money.
The copyright thing is actually done through the movies. DC has to keep producing movies to prevent those copyrights from falling back to their original owners. Because the Siegal estate actually won the case and they're getting paid what they're owed from everything Superman's been on except the movies.

Oh and Suicide Squad is absolute shit. It is the worst of them all. Burn it with fire.Suicide Squad was torture porn. And I'd declare Grifter the worst so far.
finally read all of persepolis, it's fantastic.I've had the Complete Persepolis sitting on my shelf for years, and I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I guess I'll move that to the front of my queue.

Bambino, it's a manga about cooking. I always make the mistake of reading it when I'm hungry
since I'm in indonesia, I'll show INDONESIAN COMIC
METHAL PERTIWI
(http://sindikat9.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/kover-mp-oke.jpg)
comedy comic about an embodiment of metal dude in indonesian medieval times.. actually fuck I dont know what it's about, but it's hilarious as fuck. The joke format reminds me of old european comics.

Why don't you like the Ultimates universe?I should have stopped reading when Loeb took a shit all over the place and killed half the cast. But like an idiot, I didn't.
One of my Christmas presents today was the absolutely gorgeous comic Habibi, and lemme tell you folks, this one's a winner. Gorgeous art, an original story, rich in symbolism and pathos and all of that stuff your high school English teacher harped on about. It's this right here.
See, even the book itself is a work of art. Those intricate patterns are a recurring motif in Habibi, and it's unbelievable to think of the effort it took in creating this. There's just a painful amount of beauty in the inks, but they never distract from the killer story of a boy and a girl and everything that they must live with. It reminds me of The Kite Runner, at least a little bit since they both share a Middle Eastern setting and gobs of tragedy. If you have the dough to spare, make sure check this out: this is the surely one of the best standalone comics I've ever read.
Hey, Shakespeare in comicbook form? This should be good!
(later): man, that ending's fucked up!
After years of forgetting to do it, I finally bought Blacksad. It's a gorgeous book and is very entertaining. Reading it also made me glad that I've chosen to use animal people in my stories. Sure, furries have bastardized them for the most part, but stuff like Blacksad shows how really awesome they can be when done well.

I HATED Supergod; such contrived bullshit.
I need to get a copy of Skydoll, I have the short stories collection (Factory) which is actually fantastic.
So, I recently discovered TRANSMETROPOLITAN.
HOLY FUCK.
So much for free time...

I'm in love with comics again.
Ahmed, good choices! Especially Godzilla:HCW since I worked on that with James! :D
For Paul Pope I highly recommend 100% or Heavy Liquid. I haven't read his entire catalog, but those I enjoyed most. I'm a little more biased towards Heavy Liquid due to the amazing colors.
awesome Wei ! thanks for the heads up on that ! gonna pick it up :)
Koko Be Good is awesome and beautifully done.
