Here's a nice one courtesy of Enef: The Foundation Art Group's Stay At Home Bundle, a free bundle of tutorials!

Oh yeah! About the sale at The Art of Aaron Blaise!
You can stack newsletter discount codes on top of sales, so if you decide to buy anything, use the code "NEWSLETTER2020" to get an extra 10% off.
(If you're at all curious about buying multiple courses, the Annual Premium Membership lets you just hoard whatever you want during the year and you can keep it even after it expires.)

Not much for today. Here's another for the COVID-19 themed sales:
Reuben Lara is donating 10% to GlobalGiving Coronavirus Relief fund.
On top of that, if you use the code "freetime" you get 10% off.

Oooh, that's a good one! I've paid money for Aaron Blaise's stuff, and it's very worth getting.

Well, looks like lots of us are stuck at home for a while. I’ve been seeing a lot of news and newsletters and such reminding people about free resources, announcing new ones fur this new isolated time, and even coronavirus sales.

I’ve been babbling about these in the chat, so why don’t I collect them and post them here. Feel free to post with any you find:

Always legally free:

YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY. It may be physically closed, but there are probably online resources and services you can access from home for free using your library card (they probably have or are working on how to get a new library card right now): Ebooks! Audiobooks! Magazines! Newspapers! Music! Scholarly databases! Photo archives!  Lynda.com! Mango Languages! Kanopy! Scienceflix! You'll have to go through your library's website, so do some investigating and see what you can get access to!

Borrowing Ebooks will probably involve using an app like Overdrive or Kindle. See what your library recommends. They may even have their own app.
https://www.overdrive.com

There may even be huge digitized archives of stuff you wouldn’t be able to go through regularly anyway:
https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/

PROJECT GUTENBERG for when you want to access that Public Domain goodness without going through the formality of “borrowing” an ebook or letting Amazon know even more about you:
https://www.gutenberg.org

THE INTERNET ARCHIVE
Is… is this legal? Is it legal that I can play Number Munchers online using this?
Just a wealth of content. I’ve really enjoyed listening to old radio dramas using this.

QUARANTINE SALES AND SPECIALS! The economy demands money offerings! Its hunger is insatiable and its displeasure makes us quiver!

Not necessarily a personal endorsement, but you’re probably getting newsletters and stuff with these, too, so may as well see if anyone’s interested. Besides, I get a certain amusement out of some of these so I want to make a record:

Until March 19, Jeff Miracola’s Oil and Acrylic Painting Techniques digital downloads are 50% of with the coupon code SCREWTHEVIRUS  https://gumroad.com/threepoints

Until… March 22 I guess, Beehive Books’ store is 15% off with the coupon code COVID http://beehivebooks.com/

THE INCUBATOR / Re: Flutterbyes' Incubator cha cha cha
« on: May 08, 2019, 07:41 PM »
So, you probably remember me talking about this guy. This fella is pretty generic, but he's extremely stubborn in my head, so let's get serious about incubating him.

Benjamin Le Fay, the mild mannered occultist. He comes from a family of mystics, alchemists, and generally crazy people, but actually wanted to be a defense lawyer. He dropped out because of the stress, and he returned to the family business, sorcery. He's generally a good natured, studious fellow, with a very casual and familiar attitude toward types of questionable beings he deals with. He dresses for success, but he's a bit down on his luck, holed up in an SRO with his grimoires. Keep trying, Benjamin!

He may or may not have a buddy cop relationship with Vespa.

The biggest problem here? I want very badly to draw a "Human Rung" sort of generic glasses dude with a very "20th century" flavor, but, oh yeah, the only thing differentiating an "All men from the Golden Age of Film look alike" type of design is eyebrow style. He's supposed to be unassuming with a lot hiding under the center (his body may be a little unusual, not sure if I'll use this detail)

He likes wine and fine spirits when in a good mood, but as his mental state deteriorates he prefers fruity cocktails.

VOID University / Clip Studio Paint -- CLAIMED!
« on: Dec 07, 2018, 03:45 PM »
Update: The code has been claimed!

BTW, I got the code in a Macheist Bundle that as of this update has two more days left on it. CSP is currently not on sale, so it might be a decent way to get a version of it for $25. Otherwise, go ahead and wait for another sale. They happen fairly often.

This counts as a "resource," right?

I happen to have an activation code for Clip Studio Paint Debut. I already have CSP EX, so it won't do me any good.

This is my software of choice and I highly recommend it.

DM me if interested. First come first serve.

Well, I'm feeling pretty stumped about what I may do comic-wise (anyone open for collaborating?), but Vespa's wearing something festive and not overtly wasp-themed for once (designed by Goldie).

Don't call her cute, though, because she is F-ING ADORABLE.

Regionals / Re: East Coast meetup?
« on: Jul 25, 2017, 08:39 AM »
If you're planning to be in the general vicinity of Kinokuniya, I'd recommend a trip to Book-Off first. It's a used book store that isn't quite as cheap as it used to be (although there are extra discounted shelves), but is always worth checking out before buying new manga. You can find all sorts of obscure things here, too, and out of print gems may be lurking in the art books. Best of all, the books are unwrapped so you can flip through them.

I've gone to the Guggenheim on their suggested donation night and I remember a line that started way before the time opened up that I stood on for a while. I don't know if this line was really necessary or how fast it moved once suggested donation times opened up. I think these days MOMA's free night is pretty busy, but doesn't have lines (been a while since I last went). The Met and the Museum of Natural History can both get very crowded during their busier days of the week, but they're always suggested donation. Paying whatever you want at the Met lets you see the entire museum including special exhibits, while the Museum of Natural History will let you see the main exhibits for whatever, but if you want to see a special exhibit or a show, you have to pay basically full admission + a suggested extra donation. It's a little confusing.

Needless to say, I go to and take visitors to the Met a lot.
Both it and Natural History are so huge you can easily spend the entire day in them and exhaust yourself just looking at things. "Yeah we'll start at the top and then go through the whole museum" isn't really a plan if you want to do other things that day, so it's a good idea to prioritize what it is you're looking forward to seeing.

Say, you said that your Bnb is in Astoria, right? Have you considered The Museum of the Moving Image? I haven't been there often but it's definitely worth seeing.

BY THE WAY, if I happen to have an artist buddy who I haven't managed to lure to Void but is an illustration/comic type, would it be alright if I invited them, or is this strictly Void-only? Don't worry, I haven't run it by them at all so I don't have to worry about turning them down.

Regionals / Re: East Coast meetup?

Since you mention driving... Just to be safe I'd like to take a moment to advise against taking a car into Manhattan, if you can help it. You're going to have a bad time finding a place to park (and then calculating how long you can stay there before moving your car somewhere else), or you'll find yourself shoveling out money to put it in a garage.

I've heard that, since people who can afford storing their cars on a monthly bases tend to leave the city for vacation, that if you ask around ahead of time you might be able to get a deal on a garage, but I have no experience with this.

(Hey, Shen: Did you ever have a friend drive into San Francisco and you were stumped when they asked for driving directions or a convenient and cheap place to park? SF is extremely car friendly in comparison)

Resources & Tutorials / Re: Art Tools:What do you use and WHY?
« on: May 31, 2017, 10:04 AM »
ART TOOLS MASTERLIST THREAD, I GIVE THEE LIFE. LIIIIIIIIIFE!!!!

... that's what Shen told me to do, at least, when I brought up a Void database of digital and analog art materials where one could easily look up reviews and examples of things from Voiders (and not have to guess at what the needs and skills of, say, Amazon reviewers are).

But, it looks like the convenience links in the masterlist post are all broken, so maybe we should start over?

Also, maybe we could make a separate list of "Cheapies but Goodies" for analog and digital supplies, since those can be a real lifesaver (like these nylon brushes from Ikea).

spit spat, time to chat / Re: Defaults
« on: May 17, 2017, 03:54 PM »
Formal incomplete penalties could get hairy in practice and contribute to a perception of Void as an unforgiving place with super high standards, which discourages participation and raises anxiety.

I'm thinking back to when I was warned against doing a special color page that I figured I had the time and energy for, because that would be received by the readers as an incomplete comic.

I second the idea of lower battles where there may be more default forgiveness so people feel a little freer to test their limits and abilities.

While we do want people to take Void seriously when artists are doing their best, at the same time, it's just comics we're doing in our spare time because we like comics, and we shouldn't forget that.

So, not only is Vespa here, but Qsy's Jacques is in, too.

Heyyy I'm late to the thread and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment, but is it okay if I suggest some costumes for my characters and get in on this for at least a page?

You may have seen me say this in the chat before, but since there's a thread...

I'm imagining Vespa's something like Kylee Henke yelling at her Pokemon game.
