What is THE SUPPORT GROUP? It’s what you need. If you’re an artist or a writer who’s developing a webcomic right now and you’re just having trouble breaking through that wall to producing, then this is for you.
The Support Group strives to offer your fellow members in the group encouragement and critique. Each month, you’ll join in and show proof that you’re making some developments towards your passion project. We’re all aiming to be better artists and writers and to make our own mark on the world. However, for some of us, that push into the real-world can be really scary, especially when you see your large comic in terms of Akira-length epics.
That's what this is for. Month to month, you're welcome to join in and work towards a webcomic (or print, or whatever) goal with the rest of us. We'll be doing this like clockwork and this is a bit of an experiment. Hopefully, if we take some baby steps The Support Group can ease you into making a giant footprint in your workload.

Gladly! The Support Group will be signing up in the first week of the month. If you want in, sign up for it then, because come the 2nd week, we'll be creating the match. No cancellations on it, you're either turning something in or defaulting. You have 4 weeks to create 3 pages. 3 pages, finished of your baby.
This completely doable! Post those pages up when the time is up like a regular battle and share it with the world! Get critique from your fellow participants and voiders and feel good! You just started work on something!
3 pages minimum in a month sure sounds like a lot to me!
Even at the most relaxed schedule to a webcomic release date, you’re going to want to be posting a page a week. If you can do more, do more! If you can’t do 4 pages in a month then you’ve got a real issue somewhere in either the time or your process.
Can I share more than 3 pages if I do more than 3 pages?
Sure, that's all up to you. However, I'm only asking for 3 pages.
What if I don't have 3 pages? What if I have nothing?!
I guess sign back up when you're ready? You'll get a default like any other battle or a low score like any other battle.
What if real-life happens to me?
Then just let one of the mods know to remove you. I don't think any of us will dispute something serious and while this is to help you to work, the name is right in the title. This is The Support Group and we want to make sure you're doing things that make a positive step in your goal until you're ready to fly on your own once you've hit the rhythm.
Can I join in? What if I left? Can I come back?
Yes, yes, yes. You can join in whenever you want to join in. If you left and need to come back, we're more than happy to have you involved.
When do we start?
Since this first one is a LITTLE late in the start of it, we're going to have sign up continue on until Saturday. We'll begin on this Sunday (the 6th of March). If you're wanting to get involved, it's time to sign up.
This is your opportunity to work on something for yourself! I'm glad to see anyone sign up if they need help!

Question: The comic can be anything right? Like it doesn't necessarily have to be the webcomic you're doing, and can just be prep stuff? Would that include fan comics or this has to be a strictly original kind of comicker thing?

Anything that can help counts. Long as its three pages, well, not three blank pages.
So long as it helps, and you make your personal work-- even if its sketches-- you're right on the money!!

Sssuper interested in this but got a question too. I've got a story I'm working on still in its baby stages and I'm still not certain of the look I want for the comic yet. Would "test pages" that aren't necessarily going to make the final cut of the comic count? I don't mean like little scribbled out thumbnail type ones, but fully finished ones to experiment with the style and mood of the comic/how the characters look, but may not end up actually being used if I decide I'd like to do it a different way.

I asked Eric and I think that's a great idea, because this way, everyone can give you input and give you feedback on the direction you're going before you settle on your webcomic/personal project!
After all, regardless, you were going to test out how the pages were gonna look and feel, right? So it's progress!

yo! I've posted about it in the chat, but if you weren't aware, Nickelodeon is accepting pitches for animated shorts until April 15th. this is my current project and I'm encouraging others to submit. you'll notice that they accept the standard boards/animatics, and also, COMIC PAGES! so basically I'm hoping to work on a pitch alongside someone else who is also pitching.
anyway, for me, I think I may go the traditional route and put together boards, possibly an animatic. what would be a good amount for the monthly challenge?

I don't know a thing about boards or animatics, but since you have a deadline for April 15th, I think you have quite a bit to do and this would be your whole project for the month.
The final day for this would be April 3rd? Maybe try to get 1/2 of your goal done? But otherwise, I think boards/animatics would be just fine in this case.

Should we talk about our projects too before we start?
I'm going to work on a webcomic I've wanted to continue for a while now. I actually drew the first ten pages about two years ago, but I wasn't sure about the title and some of the smaller details so didn't go further. I'm going to post those ten pages for feedback, and do at least three more before the deadline!

I too, want to start a webcomic but I always backtrack or lose interest after a few pages. NOT THIS TIME, I actually have the first chapter written down and planned out. My goal for this month is to have it all thumbed out, at least 3 pages completely done, and a few pages sketched out.
I'm currently unemployed so this should be doable lol

I want to use this as an opportunity to practice things like coloured pages within time limits. I know I can draw, but my speed of working on colours is pitifully slow and inefficient. I've been too scared to work on colours in matches, so it's a good chance to experiment.

I'll be working on my nickelodeon pitch, so it won't be a comic but I'll try and arrange the boards in a standard page format!

I've been trying to motivate myself to work on this pirate-themed webcomic for a year but right now the characters feel hollow and the story is full of holes, Im trying not to make a huge epic monster of a tale that takes 30 years to tell 1 page a week since this is a sort of adventure comedy but there needs to be SOME sort of story so i'm working on simplifying it.

Cleopatra: A rich girl is trying to change herself as bet she can but dormant is a malicious, manipulative, vain persona that temps her.
SPN (Tentative Title): A boy finds out that he carries the power of darkness, he meets a girl who carries the power of light and together, they try to find a way to properly control their abilities while saving their town from monsters!
Cosplay Story: a farmtown boy moves to the city to find Anime fans but ends up befriending 3 cosplayers after they save him from getting jumped in a back alley
Lucha Libre: El Victor is a Lucha Libre legend but his status is about to catch up on him when he is invited to a small town that's overrun by mysterious creatures

I'll be working on my webcomic/book mixture, so I will be turning in more pages.
I will be doing a hybrid of pure text and comic, where most things will be in text form, I will be appending a lot with illustrations and some sequential arts to reinforce reveals, help make fast moments go fast and so on. I will be starting with a one-shot comic set in the world to test the 'technique'.

I've been grappling with doing slice of life/story based webcomickness for quite some time and finally decided if some of my favorite web comic artists can do both, so can I.
For the story based comic, I've got this suuuuper old comic idea I did back in high school which I think has some merit to rework. A spunky elvish redhead with her willowy best friend whose called to a higher purpose. I have the story more or less mapped out, but its the ending that I'm stuck on. How to wrap it all up? I'm hoping just diving in and getting some pages out will help in figuring that out.

With 10 days left until this current cycle of Support Group is ending, I just wanted to say we'll have sign ups ready for the next incarnation and we're going to try something different with the next one to better understand the most effective way we can do this.
Choleric suggested that we try 2 2-weekers and see how it feels, so we'll do that and then determine which one feels better. We can also either start the next Support Group immediately this one is put up OR wait a week for feedback and then put up the next Support Group. Whichever you guys feel is better.
Either way, signs up are open for the next one now, so if you wanted in, now's a great time to join up.
EDIT: It's also worth mentioning that Bobo's Pulpito (http://entervoid.com/index.php?topic=13010.0) is currently accepting submissions, so this would be a terrific opportunity to work towards something. You all should really do something for it and you've got a motivator to help you along if you need it.

Not sure how much I would have ready in the first 2 weeker, but I will still put my name in for it anyway. I have been working on the revamp of my comic Shina and Roboface that I did last year for 24 hour comics day, so that's what I will probably keep working on. I think I have expanded on the comic so far by 12 pages for the first chapter but I want to rework some more.
Or I may work on a smaller idea first for something I wanted to do later in the year, or Panda Girl one of the three.

Alright, sign me up. However I'd just like to point out won't be doing this to necessarily start a webcomic, this will just be my attempt at figuring out my comic making process, and of course the critique (if it doesn't go against the rules that is).

I'm not aware of any page minimum, but if you look at the last round, a few people didnt even submit three. Do as much as you can, and I guess be aware of your limits and what you can push. Its important to be honest with yourself if you can't submit as much as you set yourself, and make adjustments!
