News & Events / Re: ANNIHILATION ANNOUNCEMENT
« on: Jan 25, 2016, 12:15 PM »
As if a character being dead once is not enough, we now have the option to be double-dead?!

I can't help but wonder if there can be an option for currently alive characters can also participate in these annihilation matches against a dead character, if they so choose to up the stakes for themselves? It might mix things up quite a bit.

Another thing I am wondering is if there's able to be a non-lethal match-up type just between dead characters only (since they're essentially on the same plane of existence?) - it makes sense to me to have that too, if they have the option of annihilation matches, but I understand if there's no desire to implement that. It was just a thought.

Airlight with Mr. Shui

An unassuming, mostly ordinary elder, Mr Shui is a gentle and kind man with a sanguine attitude. He loves experiencing new and interesting things through the eyes of a child, and tries his best to keep his mind open so he can continue to learn. He traveled from overseas to see the sights of the world, VOID city being one of his last long-term stays for his tourism. He is in peak physical and mental condition for his age, training daily with Tai Chi, writing calligraphy, and just going out regularly. During his younger years, he was an engineer, artist, and writer.

His primary "ability" is the power of credibility- it could be the power of his voice, or his general demeanor, no one knows for sure- but everyone who hears him speak, will instantly believe what he says to the point where they experience the reality of what he is telling them. He is aware of this ability, so he is careful with when, and what he chooses to say, making him seem reserved.

It was his superpowered daredevil wife that originally intended to enter this deadly tournament for thrills, but his name ended up getting registered instead, due to a mix up during the processing of their visa/immigration paperwork.

Sorry in advance for reviving this thread that hasn't been posted in for a year, but I was talking a bit in the chat about comic battles I was never able to finish due to my life being an endless sludge of busy, and wanted to put up some small excerpts of battles from each thing I still have on file. A lot of this work is extremely old, from 9 to 5 years old, so excuse the ugliness.

Robert vs Swallow (2007 I think).

Robert vs Andrew (2009)

Robert vs Andre (near the end of 2009)

Then I think I dropped off the face of VOID and tried to make a return in roughly around 2011 by battling Charlie's Luna, but got too busy again to finish it. especially because it was ambitious and 50 pages.

Robert vs Luna (2011)

Hey thanks guys! AND CHAAAAAAAaARLIE MY LONG TIME NAKAMA. Colin, I cannot forget you either, long time no talk!

I appreciate your offer to help Bobo! I think I have the account issues squared away now (got an email with the PW reset link so my account is back :) ) Where do people chat nowadays?

It seems like people really like the old man, so I might end up entering him because I was very on the fence, it was either do something completely wildly different/force me to think outta the box (old man), or do something really self indulgent/fun to me (building bender teen) Both characters had some purpose I wanted to use to improve in some aspect of my comic making either way! After I get some more stuff done I'll attempt to finish a ref sheet and submit.

Issuing an apology to Angie for taking 7ever on these when I said I'd try to do them ASAP. (Employers keep giving me lots of work to do, constantly stressed) hope this will suffice. Forgive me for taking so long :(

;( perhaps

edit; fuck it, I'll throw my hat in the ring for the time being. I managed to sketch out a quick new design sheet (wow, my old art is disgusting) my schedule for May is currently unknown; as I'm still pretty busy, so if things come up, I can't do this, but:

Airlight with Robert

edit2; I believe I cannot do it so I will withdraw to give the slot to someone bearing more time on their hands. I found out that May is going to be extremely busy; I have other projects I need to dedicate to, as well as push off my plate. Sorry. I would like to scar or death match someone later during the summer though.

Dedicated to Bittermause's heavily under-hyped and underrated "Imouto" comic. GO READ IF YOU HAVEN'T.

Characters are Bitter's Eliza Quaille and Spinzoa's Sergio Pancrazio.

Zsa, you continue to rock on. Thanks for including both Rob/Adonis. Squid I absolutely dig your banner, very well done!
I'm working on a banner for VOID 5.0 at the moment, but college is slave-driving me to work hard on stuff so it may take awhile to get done.

I hope this reads right... I'm going to feel like an asshole if it doesn't
The first word is written a bit wonky, but still mostly recognizable as a "Jia" (which translates into a "Chia") and the last word is definitely a "Hui". 嘉辉.

Zsa!  Questions!  I think I figured out most of the characters except for maybe three on your banner, the chick to Dandy Dan's right
Will, in order, if I got it right, haha, the chick is Airlight's Robert,

Apparently Rob looks androgynous without facial hair.

I've been in a horrible artistic funk, I'm not sure if tossing my hat into this would help anything as I have piles of crap to do on both behalf of school and personal work. The lineup looks amazing so far, though. I'm excited to see what people will bring to the table.

By the way, everyone says this but, I love how you color haha it looks awesome

Thanks, and you're welcome, guys! I was disappointed that both of you ended up with nothing from your Secret Santas so I had to remedy that. Both your characters are awesome, too.

News & Events / Re: 24 Hour Comics Day!
« on: Sep 30, 2010, 07:26 PM »
Can't make it for this event. College drained the living daylights out of me and I need recharging and catch-up time lest I dig myself a deeper hole.

On a side note, there should be more 24-hour events like this on enterVOID, just so we can have more participants in case some can't make it for the official date. I love the idea of people just jumping in to dedicate a whole day to making a one-shot story on their own whim; it encourages more activity in comics without risk of loss, and brings out the main point of making comics; having fun.

GO FOR BROKE! / Re: HURF DURF
« on: Aug 16, 2010, 11:24 PM »
good/clean style, just wish it's more dynamic (most of them just have still standing pose.. need more body language)

To build on Jho's little critique, a standing still pose isn't always necessarily a bad choice, but most of yours in particular are consistently arranged in a vertical/straightforward composition (it shows in your comic layouts, as well) that the viewer's eye has nowhere interesting to focus on. There is no real 'hook' to your images.

The difference between a good standing pose and a mediocre standing pose is being able to discern body language that visually explains a character's attitude and personality.. and from all the characters you've drawn here, they are visually communicating the same, nonchalant attitude to me and I'd like to think that isn't the case.

Mixing it up, drawing the figure diagonally for a change, not being afraid to 'stretch' out their pose, vary their shoulder angles, twist their waist, or even attempting an entirely different angle (throwing in some foreshortening) would really liven your stances up and pack some more punch, EVEN if it was just standing. The exaggeration of visual expression would help everyone with distinguishment between different characters.

News & Events / Re: Month of the Dead 2010?
« on: Aug 13, 2010, 08:32 PM »
That's a shame. Yours was the dead character I wanted to play with this halloween, but I wanted to have a couple more comics to show before I asked so I wouldn't simply be laughed at. I really like your work, I was looking at some of it yesterday.

Wat? Someone actually wanted to battle Adonis? (Funny, 'cause I just updated his design sheet, too) Thanks dude, I'm flattered that you like my stuff.

Also, I think you misread what I said, I said I would definitely try to see if I can make time for MotD IF it happens this year. Nowhere did I say I refuse to participate in such an event.

« on: Aug 13, 2010, 01:08 PM »
Out of all the points I've read thus far, I would have to agree with Nachte the most on this. As cool as Month of the Dead is, I would much rather have a Speed Resurrection Tournament because it has more purpose. Fighting for the right to live seems less arbitrary and more challenging/within the vein of enterVOID's atmosphere than dead characters getting a free, month long pass to battle whoever before they're unable to be used in any other time-frame of the year.

I voted "Yes" because I do agree with promoting more site-wide activity and reasons to make comics, but I may withdraw that vote because there are very strong counter-arguments (especially a point raised by Phil) about the overall significance and impact of the Death Match. Not sure if I'd be totally against MotD happening, though, so I can't vote "No" with honest intention.

Whether I'd battle for MotD this year really depends on how my college schedule will look, but if it'll happen, I'll try to make time for it.

Pi, I just wanted to enhance the illusion of scarved entrants!

I already was aware that I had to have dead/no characters to enter - plus, I'd definitely spend more than 10 minutes on that design sheet. Hurray for jokes.
