Despite the abstractness of AVT\'s storyline, I actually preferred it. It was an interesting (and unexpected) take on a battle I really loved. Not to mention the great black and white work. If I had to find a word to describe it I\'d use \'creamy\'.

Although to be fair, I ADORED Perca\'s inkwork and textures- talk about a feast for the eyes! The take on Sleeping Boars personality made me laugh too- great stuff.

In all honesty I gotta say the voting for this is tough. Despite my preferences everyone can agree you blew all of us away. Its going ot be a CLOSE match. Best of luck to you both. :)

terrific art on both halves. AVT totally confused me with the story. Couldn\'t figure out who the kid was til the end, at which point all i wanted to see was a fight. Perca\'s was entertaining, even more so when read with the halting enthusiasm of a speed racer dub. plus got to see an actual fight.

brit your art is always nice.

perca nice art as well.

but this is king of monsters not king of let tell a complex storys about our character..
i officially say this tourney got real lame real quick. no one understands what this tourney is about all the sudden. fuck 2 monsters one dies next round...rinse repeat.
soory if  i sound like an asshole. This have to be the worst entry in the tourney for this kind of theme. I know every one who likes writing complex stories are gonna bitch, but this is a over the top killing and destroying tourney. ahhhh man i got to leave.

Ok, I wasn\'t going to post anything at first, since most (if not all) has already been said; however, I have to say that there are couple things that got me annoyed in AVT\'s last post:

1. No offense, really but....if Sleeping Boar is/was so important to you then.....why in the freaking hell did you enter him in a death match contest?? You knew beforehand that he would be gone forever if you lost a battle.

2. Seriously, about the anatomy mistakes in the boy, I have to say that excet in a single scene, he does not look like a handicapped, infact, there are scenes where both arms have the same lenght and bulk. Also he is not the only one with anathomy issues, there are more examples. Not to mention the boys face, that looks like a 17yo or older, yet he is spoken to and acts as a pre-teen.

Again, please, take no offense from my words, but that is how I feel.

They might allow it up as a Beyond Battle, because I can tell you now: I\'d love to see how it all ends. Deadlines are what VOID teaches us to deal with, and it sucks ass most of the time. You did a FANTASTIC job in the time you had.(Both of you!) Don\'t think of this as a loss or a downfall, dude. It\'s another learning experience. Kudos to both!

Thanks to everyone for the comments and critiques.  I\'ve expressed already that I couldn\'t even get my mouth around the story that is \"Sleeping Boar\" within such a deadline, nevermind bite it off to even chew it.  The story is unfinished.  But all parts that I have finished are pertinent to the overall product.

You see, the life of \"Sleeping Boar\" has always ended, and will always end, in forfeit. In the story that I have scripted, he never even kills the boy.  Or Spiral.  His story has never been about winning.  It has always been a story about love, loss and redemption.

I have every intention about completing the story before the end of the tournament.  Whether or not I have the ability to post it here after defeat is another story.  It is not up to me how, or where, i can post it for VOID members to read.  But I will make it public, somehow.  Because I want absolutely no misconception about the man that IS \"Sleeping Boar\"--because I\'ve been living with him for a long, long time.  Indeed, I know the man that is \"Sleeping Boar\" a lot better than I know myself.  He has become a sort of obsession--a phantom, stalking and waiting in my very shadow.  He has been someone that I can talk to when I think no one else will hear.  I find myself laughing at the jokes he tells me when no one is around.  He is the comforting hand on my shoulder when I\'m upset.  He is the whispered words of encouragement when I feel failure is upon me.  He is my life, my love, and the one who revived me from my darkest hours years ago.

Yes.  I have lost my mind.  But I\'m aware of it.

No, I\'m not the perfect artist.  I\'m not the perfect storyteller.  But I will tell you that James Emery Kadence died when he was born.  He suffered from a stroke.  But then...he started breathing again.  This is why any sort of anatomical disproportions may be apparent--especially on the right side of his body.  His growth became stunted.  And it\'s apparent even as an adult man.  But you can\'t tell ALL the story at one time, can you...

I don\'t want to come across as overly self-important.  But THIS is important.  To me.  This confrontation has been the downfall of \"Sleeping Boar\" from the beginning, and ultimately my downfall as a sequential artist.  So...if you care to see it, if you care to read it, if you want to know the truth, and if you want to know the heart that he and I both possess, I encourage you to wait.  Because the story will be told.  Even if it breaks me.

Pris, I thank you likewise for the opportunity to bring my dear Em\'y back into my life.  It has hurt, a lot, but indeed it\'s not about winning or losing.  It\'s about the story.  It\'s about heart.  And I will do this just for you.  I want to show you--show everyone--exactly how it happens, how Sleeping Boar was going to meet his end.  And if any of you have stopped reading before I\'ve reached this sentence, then you have already sent \"Sleeping Boar\" to his death without knowing the truth.

Again, thank you.

Ok, sorry for taking that long to comment here. But yes, I did read all comments and such. Here we go:

B: Ok, I told you that before, but it won’t hurt to repeat: You blew me. This comic (in my opinion) was way better then the last fight (even not finished). Sleeping boar was less talkative, with made me not lost attention while reading you pages. The colors are very well used, and I was also thinking how our styles are opposite… Yours are more dept while mine is happier. Weird, but it was nice to see both together about the same subject. Again, I liked how you told SB background and if I didn’t knew you were not able to finish and that there were more pages planed, I would stick with the others about the fight and the rest, but yes, I know you were not able to plot down your stuff, and that made me sad, as it was turning pretteh good. But again, we had a few time to plot, even I had to cut it short. Maybe when we get a longer deadline… It’s all about the deadline… And real life problems as well.

I can’t see much more things to point out, except the anatomy in some parts. Not that I’m the perfect artist, but sometimes you should pay attention for not doing the same mistakes. I won’t point the ones I saw, I think they’re easy to find out with a carefully look. You can’t depend on the colors to make up those mistakes (I know it was not made on purpose). Again, I know it was a time problem to get em done, but maybe doing less pages would help (yes that applies for me too). This is a tourney, liking it or not. There was some stuff that meant to be done on our pages. We both half succeeded, half failed.

In the end, I just would like to thank you for this fight. It helped me a lot to understand a different character’s point of view, paneling, pacing, and most of all, do stuff with heart. I don’t care about winning or losing, it was awesome. Doing this battle was something…. I have no words. Never pushed myself that hard, it was a new and amazing experience. Thank you so much for this opportunity.
-----
And for the people who commented (and read) the comic: tx a lot for the support, attention and feedbacks. I won’t argue, everything that could be said was said already. I’ll take all the critics by heart and try my best to improve and not repeat the mistakes. Again, thank you guys for everything. I’m glad for participating on this tourney. (again, sorry for the wall of text. I can\'t help <3)

Amazing art on both sides. But on this instance, I\'m going to have to go with Spiral\'s side. I found the battles to be evenly matched in terms of quality if I ignore the abrupt ending on SB\'s side.

However in terms of entretainment and story Spiral\'s side was vastly superior. Unfortunately SBs side felt entirely like an exposition on the sleeping boar character rather than a battle. As Koko said, it would\'ve been an amazing beyond battle, and even as an unconventional battle it would\'ve been great, except for the fact the opponent was nowhere to be seen. Spiral didn\'t appear once except for a small mention, it is ok to cover your character\'s backstory, but one could at least include one\'s opponent once. right?, that,  coupled with the fact that it was unfinished (one panel does not a battle finished make) tilted my voting completely on Spiral\'s side.

Per, I loved it, everything felt like it belonged together so neatly, the graphic style, the typeface, the line widths, the cg, all felt so perfectly callibrated. And AVT, that would\'ve been a delicious apple, if it hadn\'t been an orange.

I can\'t add anything that hasn\'t already been said.  Both excellent works.  Seems to be a common sentiment, judging by how close it is.  As of right now, the tally\'s at 48.7% for SB and 51.3% for Espiral.  Insane! Great job both artists!

AVT: Beautiful. The painting blew me away. The story was interesting but... not for a KoM match. I\'d see this as a wonderful BB for flavor and background info and so on... but it took up so much room in the match, the parts with the boy were too short. It didn\'t feel like a match at all. And did we ever even see Spiral in your half? The monster you were supposed to fight? I think, given more time, you might have done more with your opponent\'s character... but as it is, I can give you props for what feels like an unfinished battle, but a wonderful BB.

Perca: I loved it. The cute nature of everything was completely enjoyable and the coloring makes me giggle. I\'ll agree that you are text heavy, but since I enjoyed the text for the most part, I didn\'t count it against you. What you DO need to work on is the bubble placement for the text. And cutting it down a TAD or making your panels bigger so the text doesn\'t override everything else. Consider making larger panels and spreading them over more pages instead of feeling like you have to cram so much into a single page. Other than that, nice job. Loved the jokes, loved the fun you poked at your opponent, and loved how Mr.Crow is such a dick to everyone. <3

AVT - Loved it loved it loved it. It looks like you were really pushing to pack a ton into this battle, but you pulled it off very well. The story flowed very well and kept my attention!!! If you don\'t win this tournament I\'m gonna cry!

Perca - Very pretty art, but the comic\'s flow was very abrupt. I kept getting distracted while reading it, and getting lost in the word bubbles. To me storytelling is way more important in a comic than illustration. You\'ve gotta get your reader through the story and keep them gripped to every second. AVT understood that better than you did, but you still did a good job. A pretty read but a difficult one.

I want to cry. Seriously. How often do we get to see a battle fought by two such amazing artists? Can I worship both of you, now?

AVT: I would give anything to learn how you did those pages. The painterly style is so beautiful and fitting to the mood. Especially the lighting effects. And I\'m such a sucker for stories like that! It\'s a shame you had to cut it short. I was a little confused at the end, but it\'s understandable.

Perca: You know how much I love your pages. But the end! AH! Spiral is so cute! And I absolutely love Mr. Crow. The penguin comments made me laugh so much. I can\'t wait to see your next round. :3

Fight #zomg

AVT: Quite nice! Personally I took a bit of time to get it, since I hadn\'t noticed the boar also had an eye misfunction, at first I thought the story was about Spiral\'s boy, but with inverted eye problem :P I thought it was a bit harsh to get the story throughly, and specially the end as well. The art was superb, super props to that, plus Sleeping Boar is less talkative than usual, which is a pos.

perca: It was very nice as well! I loved the storyline, and it\'s solving as well. Problems I found were about the text size, which is explainable due to the reduced pagesize. The colouring was also very nice, even though it\'s a bit random between 5~8. I love Spirals new form, by the way, and, talking about it, you seem to have forgotten about his eye-arms in the old form :P

Great stuff, it\'s a top-notch fight, but I give it to perca mainly due to AVT\'s confusing plot.
That\'s it.

B, no matter what you say, I do bet that your side is going to blew me away. I know what you say about don’t being able to do exactly what you wanted. Time seen to be short for all the kom fighters in this round... Anyway, I don\'t care about winning or losing this. The thing is that you and I enjoyed doing this and hopefully we\'ll have more and more chances to face each other and keep the awesomeness. Don’t give up.

I’m really sad that I could not reach you before, B. So many questions about SB that could have turned my side a little more serious, but when the deadline was approaching, decided to turn the comical side and let go. I do apologize for that, for you and the readers. This was the best I could do in a short deadline and with the information I had. I don’t care about scores, just care about entertainment. Hope you all enjoy my side, that’s all I want, seriously.

About SB. He is a deep character, I was not able to give him too much deepen from the start… maybe because he’s not the main focus of my side, maybe because he is. You guys will judge that. The objective of this fight was not only a plot line, but to show how the characters really are. Hope I had succeed

Enough explanations. Let’s wait and see what will happen. B, you’re awesome, I do love you too. You’re such a sincere sweet heart. Good luck, and don’t ever STOP BELIEVING!

And for all the readers.. I would like to ask you guys to vote fair in this battle. Number of pages is not one of the requirements for the votes. Keep it real guys.  (and sorry for the wall of text, it was necessary.)

Hahaha oh man I\'m gonna get TROUNCED BY THE MASSES.

I have no excuses.  Just reasons.  I\'m not asking anything from you guys.  Maybe a little patience, but whatever...

When it was announced that Sleeping Boar was to face Spiral, I was immediately filled with dread.  I was facing my equal/superior, and plus I had been drafting out the storyline since the tournament first started for these two.  I knew that eventually it would happen, I just didn\'t want to believe it.

Anyways.  I\'m sorry to disappoint.  I really, really am.  It\'s all fluff.  There is no point to any of it HERE, but there still is a point to all of it to me.  I was getting to it, but I just can\'t work 40 hours a week and dumb down 30 pages of script.  Yes, this whole confrontation was--and still is--a big deal to me.

Anything that any of you will say I completely get.  I KNOW what you guys are gonna say.

Some of it came very natural to me, and sometimes it was forced.  I couldn\'t even do the REAL last page, which is missing here, because it was too complex to do in like...3 hours.  And these two-page spreads take me an entire day to do.  So I cut it real, real, real short.  I will however continue to work on it, even now, even after I\'ve submitted everything because I believe in this, and I can do it from the heart.  Those who\'ve been in this fantastic comic community will know that I haven\'t submitted anything in years.  And yet...when the perfect opportunity came up, I couldn\'t even get my mouth around it, nevermind bite it.

There is so much more I want to say, but I know that most of you aren\'t very keen on reading large amounts of text (no offense, honestly, I get it.)  But I will say thanks for your attention, regardless.  Now I must go and pay some bills.

Pris, I love you to death.
