This is a very personal piece. I do not care for any comments on its technical aspects.

I finished watching "Bosch" when I wrote this and was super inspired by pulpy noir. I really like the idea of Santa as a hardboiled detective in a seedy city at the North Pole. I kinda wanna do more of these now!

ideas i had for yule tide short sweet:
1. just draw a bunch of bonsai
2. Bethlehem story but make every character a lesbian
3. draw a diary comic about having a melt down in Sprouts because there's too much goddamn christmas music and everyone yelled at me
4. a comic about two gross old men, scratching their asses and buying ass creme on christmas eve, because the drug store is the last place open
5. steal shen's story about humbugs
6. make a diary comic that is also an excuse to draw bonsai and also some lesbians

Update: my friend picked out her tree today. The owners if the shop were super nice. Long may she (the tree) prosper

FLUFF
I liked the juxtaposition of the chaotic visuals with the calm cryptic narration.  I, too, would hate to be burdened with a yarn poppet.
The comic just kind of ends on a note that doesn't feel satisfying, and maybe that was because of the time limit and what you could do, but what is here is pretty good.

SEAN
Have a wonderful holiday, Sean!

HELLIS
Rest in peace indeed.  I'm glad you had a family member encourage your artistic pursuits.
I like the memoir approach in this comic.  It touches upon existential dread during the winter holidays, and even acknowledging that this may not be The Most Wonderful Time of the Year?  That's hella comforting.

LUCKY
Bugbert and Portia strike again!  I like the simple silliness these comics provide, especially with how wacky you got with Portia's extended family designs.

BROWNKIDD
Great nods to Christmas mythos in the names.  I can't say much else about this comic other than it was a real banger--no pun intended.  Excellent job.

SNAGER
That was a sweet anecdote.  I hope your friend enjoys the tree!

GREGLY
Very silly and simple.  It kinda reminds me of a Crockett Johnson comic with the inherent simplicity of the designs and storytelling.  Backgrounds feel sparse, I would have liked to have seen a little more color to break some of that vacant white.

CAB
A long-running movie debate given the elf treatment.  I like that some of the visuals are given that TV static look, but the coloring method outside of the movie shots changes drastically in the latter half of the comic.  It was distracting and smacks of inconsistency.
And I'm again asking you to find an editor for your dialog.  You got run-on sentences that need clear ends to them.

SHEN
An accidental White Elephant party.  Nice and sweet with a bitter end for the Chop Shop guy.  I hope someone gets him a gift, soon!
You're getting better with your hands, keep that up.  Heather's legs are super rubbery looking on the bottom panel of page 1, and the only thing I can suggest is looking at how digitgrade feet are rendered on anthro characters.  Otherwise, it's a nice short story.

everyone: I'm so impressed with what everyone got done in so little time!

Fluff: I thought yours was going to turn out dark the a similar vein to how Hella's did, but then it was just a sarcastic look at your family christmases, which are actually kind and sweet if quirky. i'm sorry to hear the yarn monkey is lost. y'all need to find a suitable replacement for your uno game.

hellis: yours is clearly a therapy diary comic. i had a hard hard time with my own story because i've always had a hard time around christmas for a lot of the reasons your story says christmas is actually hard. at least my family would let me go sit in a different room and watch tv at our parties. i'm good for about 2 hours of festivities. idk how people do it. and i understand even less how anyone actually likes the holiday. i dream about getting to live alone in a part of the world were no one knows what christmas is and have the worlds most inconsequential, understated observance where all i do is put a paper crane in a bonsai tree for 12 hours then take it back out.

lucky: yours was so cute. bi love the 3 different sized stockings! i'm concerned the bird never got anything for exmis. :( and did the platypus just use its psychic powers to open the tree? god i wish that were me.

brown kid: yours was def the most enter-void compliant comic. XD i also was confused what happened to the kid. was his bomb just full of spray paint? then who was in the ambulance? he got shot with a rubber bullet and sent to the hospital for launching a spray paint bomb? there is a lot going on in your comic, and i applaud you for putting so much work into a silly 5 day thing . it looks VERY polished. u3u

gregly: yours is so what i wanted mine to look like. simple clean line drawings with dabs of color. why do i always forget my own vision? but yours also tells a sweet little story, which i gave up on pretty fast. i feel like you could submit this as a pitch to a british animation firm and get a short film that they air between shows around the holidays.

cab: rather than a comic, you've submitted a proposal to elicit all members of the void voice chat squad to argue about christmas movies. the sound of music gets aired around Christmas because its themes of family overcoming obstacles or what ever, but is not a real christmas movie because there's not a smidgen of christmas in it. meanwhile, the elf Biopic, Catch me if you Can, ends during Christmas time, but is of course never thought of as a christmas movie because it's the opposite of family togetherness. i really like how you and platinum have elves as stand-ins, too. you see each other as a similar relationship as hard working santa elves. amazing.

shen: i'm esp. surprised you got so much work done in just a few hours! maybe you can make the Humbug comic later, as i'm still curious about it, but this story that asks the player to guess which gift goes to which character design is oddly engaging!

i'm really eager to see which of us gets rewarded for our efforts and which do not so we can sit around in voice trap, trying to figure out why the votes were cast the way they were XD happy holidays everyone. may your shitty jobs give you Christmas eve and day off, as well as newyears eve and newyears day. manda voice: don't walk on the streets on new years eve

whoa this is creative stuff guys!

fluffs: its wierd and creepy so... i like it a lot. sure where this turn came from but its an interesting concept. (feels a bit like lovecraftian method somehow)

Hellis! sorry for your loss! The comic really hit with strong emotions and I hope you get to enjoy the festivities again someday. Sounds like you figured some things out about you so I am sure you will manage to get better steadily.

lucky... that was so cute and random. love it. kind of chuckled over kids three their :D

brownkidd: that was crazy. dunno what happened to the kid. guess he knocked him out. but thats an interesting way to tackle the theme. very nice and suble texture work use

snager, this is so beautiful. personal like hellis but on such a positive note. the last panel cracked me up and i have no idea what this refers to. but i guess the right person knows exactly what.

gregly. the guy sure knew how to make the most of a hopeless situation!

holy hell cab someone seems to have had complicated discussion topics regarding the holidays. wheeee

and here we have a nice make the best of it scene again shen! wholesome ... poor guy in the end

my initial story idea fell through so this was completed in ONE DAY and is a side story based on characters from the 'Hey Kitty' webcomic I used to draw with Fox
