Hello all! I'm Brian, AKA Theo or AmanitaZest- whichever name you prefer. I like drawing comics and cartoony junk, and have been doing so for most of my life. I heard about EnterVoid through ZsaBreuser and SpeedKing, and I'm eager to see more of the community here and (of course) make comics! Here's some of my latest pieces.
Lately I've been experimenting more with colors and odd combinations. I was inspired after poring over a collection of old Hanna-Barbera backgrounds to try and be bolder with my choices, so this was one of my first attempts.
This is the iD for my DeviantArt page and another color experiment- I noticed that a lot of the coolest backgrounds I saw had lots of neutral colors, so I wanted to see if I could get away with that.

Concept art for a character I want to enter in Void. I've got a couple other projects I wanna work on first though, so I don't know how long it'll be before I set up a proper thread for him.

your stuff is so fresh! i really dig your ink work, i think you should see where you can go with that. definitely keep developing backgrounds as well, you've got a good thing going on. and comics! please show us some comics you've got!
welcome to void, hope to see more from you soon!
-
I really like this cartoony style of yours :D
-
Thanks! Here are some of my most recent comics:
THese are two pages from my audition for an awesome zombie-themed OCT called DeviantDead:
And here's a page from my Round 1 comic:
Weirdly enough, I lost the first round, but my characters were recruited by my opponent, and after he lost the next round his opponent adopted them. So, while I lost my first OCT, there's still a possibility that my characters might make it to the end.
Here's a page from the new comic I'm working on:
And for a little bonus, here are some little designs I whipped up last fall. I was initially excited when I found out that Warner Bros. produced some skateboards to promote Where the Wild Things Are, but found the end result to be.... lacking. Their designs are on the left, and my attempts to do better are on the right.

oh my god... I think I love you. please stay here forever and ever.

And what about (http://images2.fanpop.com/images/photos/6500000/John-Smith-pocahontas-6585696-300-315.jpg)??
(i've been meaning to use this one for a while, red, please forgive me!)
Theo, when you take your time with your work, it looks fantastic. Your DD audition looked a little rushed compared to your other pages. In any case, you've definitely got chops. Here's hoping you continue to refine and develop your skills here!
-
Haha, my DD audition is actually the earliest of all those- I drew that October 09, and then Round 1 was December 09, and the latest comic was from February of this year.
Speaking of which, here's another page for that comic:

If you're interested, you can read the rest [urll=http://amanitazest.deviantart.com/]on my DA page.[/url]
And to prove that I don't just do cartoony stuff, here's some of my more realistic stuff.

Here are a couple little things I've done over the past two days. It's finally sunny and warm outside again, so I celebrated with a little bit of scenery drawing. I tried my best to not cheat the tree branches, but I couldn't help myself. I'm really proud of the big one, I spent roughly an hour eyeballing the whole area and drawing it by hand.
I'm also almost done with another color page- just need to flesh out what backgrounds I have. I'm trying to go for more manga-style efficiency, and drawing only what absolutely needs to be seen. Hopefully it won't look totally cheap.
-
I think "manga-style efficiency" might be a little misleading. Good manga-ka aren't more efficient than anyone else, they just use space differently. That said, leaving the open backgrounds isn't really helping you at all in the last couple of pages. Most artists use it to achieve an effect of poignancy, but I don't think you've quite got it. The amount of white space between the panels and the "open" panels is a little awkward, and doesn't really point us to anything. Use it to highlight a single specific element, and it probably will look much better.
hope this helps!
ps: don't worry about cheating with the branches, drawing the texture and shape is much more important than trying to get every single specific branch.
-
Okay, I've played around with the page a bit. Does this look any better?
-
i like the addition of a minor background on the bottom left panel, but the bottom right still doesn't look right. you're not emphasizing a character or object, which is what empty backgrounds are supposed to do, and this is creating the awkward spacing in that corner. Either lump all the bandmates to one unit (getting rid of the trapped space between them and the panel above), or use a legitimate background and find another way to show the flier.
-
This is not at all inspired by a certain new game that came out. No sir.

Fanart for Selenedragon's (http://selenedragon.deviantart.com/) Renard, a character from DeviantDead, an OCT I competed in late last year. I was taken out of the first round, but my characters are still going on (long story, that one). Anyways, Renard is a British professor with a little chicken farm and a dog named Charlie that's followed him into a city infested with zombies, but more to the point, he also has a wife who passed away some time before DeviantDead started- I had always wanted to draw the two together, so I took time out today to get it done.

posing and proportions, cannot stress this enough. it's a nice image, and it gets the mood across well, but shapes of the hands, torso, and legs are really weird. i'm sure someone can redline you if you need it.
have you started a sketch/studies thread yet?
-
I haven't started a thread like that- what exactly is it for?
I know that Renard's right hand still looks a little off, but if you'd be willing to point out the other errors, I 'd really appreciate it. Here are the character sheets I referenced while making this, if you're interested.

Basically, just post your sketches and life studies in this thread so we can see the "homework" side of your art. Seeing you render realistic human beings and environments is a good way to gauge your skills, and will provide ways for us to help you improve.
-
Hmm, okay- I had some of that stuff earlier in the thread, but here's some more sketches that I did today.

WIP for a poster I'm designing for a friend of mine. She wanted something colorful with robots in it, so I created a band for her called The Last Question. From right to left, the band members are Powell/Donovan, Edison, and Everest. They're a cogcore group, with some vernepunk influence and more than a few pages borrowed from bands like The Good Doctor Moreau.
-
Loving your color choices and life in your work! I wonder if the newest image would work with a little color in the background, since the white really takes away from everything
-
Thanks! I'll definitely try that out tomorrow. Right now, I'm too tired- I just finished up another character/story concept. This one is Roger Ferraro, Professional Graffiti Critic:
Thanks :) I'm almost done with the project- just gotta start adding text tomorrow. Here's another piece I did tonight, a new character/story- Roger Ferraro, Professional Graffiti Critic.
Roger was born into a middle-class family, but developed an early fascination with the graffiti pieces in the projects his father helped renovate. After dropping out of art school, Roger decided to use his fine arts skills to help better his city and the slums- by critiquing the numerous graffiti pieces throughout. His philosophy is that graffiti is indeed an art form and can help beautify the otherwise grim and derelict parts of town they crop up in. As he says, "If you're gonna vandalize public property, at least make it look good."
In the early days, Roger was simply content to blog about pieces that he thought were aesthetically pleasing or an absolute eyesore. As he began to gain more attention from fellow hipsters, he began growing bolder, striking out into the middle of the night and taping his latest review to the very wall he was analyzing. The reviews then ran back to the taggers themselves, who are slowly but surely beginning to grasp composition and color theory in their newer pieces. In this way, the downtown's informal art education has begun.

If this was a Void character it would be Haley's mortal nemesis.
-
(http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb310/Otaku42/SynaesthesiaCoverblue.jpg)
Almost done with the poster- been fiddling around with text and colors to make it look like a Rolling Stones-style magazine. Tried a color background, too- fonts and font colors are most definitely not final, and I still need to add a barcode.
-
the subhead at the bottom is really getting lost in the background image, and there's not a lot of consistency with your typefaces.
Proximity!
Alignment!
Repetition!
Contrast!
Also, what the heck is "cogcore??"
-
Okay, trying out some more consistent font/color combos. Only thing I'm not happy with right now are the date and price (in tiny print next to the title). I tried switching them to the same dark color/light stroke that I used on the header, but it looks wrong to me. Any suggestions?
-
They date and price are getting lost because there's no contrast between them and the background.
to be honest, I suggest moving them below the magazine header, since then they wouldn't be clashing with the illustration.
-
Dunno much about color, but my opinon is that there's too much blue pulling the eyes to one side. Maybe you could try that Last Question phrase and put it under the small robot and just have it like:
The Last
Question
-
Thanks for the help on the poster! Here's the final version- my friend really liked it and is already wanting me to make another one for her:

I also recently participated in an art trade with a guy from Sweden. He sent me some badical pewter bead pixel art, and this is what I made for him in return:

Your work is looking really impressive, great hands and pages so far. Try tossing some lighting on those hands, it'll give you a better idea of the volume and shape of them when you start drawing the shadows you see.
keep it up!

Thanks! A friend of mine just lent me a book ol' book of fine art drawing, so I'm gonna be testing out some of the techniques soon.
Sorry I haven't been posting much in the last couple of weeks, I've been away at my job as a camp counselor. I have managed to get some free drawing time in, though, so here's a compilation of the best of it. Everything except the feet was done in ballpoint pen.

Got a new piece here! I wanted to practice some digital art, so my girlfriend and I worked on a piece together- she inked and I colored.

I'm trying to get back into the swing of things for Jukebox Heroes- I haven't really drawn the characters in a couple months, and it feels painfully awkward. Hopefully I can get started soon so that I can finish this chapter by the end of the year. ^^"
Here are a couple sketches of a character I introduced in the very last page I posted.

Earlier this week, a friend of mine wanted me to customize some blank slip-ons for her. This is what I made today- it was a pretty fun project.

...o.o''.....i def. want them shoes....>>....<<..... :P
-
Thanks, man! C: I had a lot of fun making those, I'd love to try and do more in the future.
I just finished up a major project for my 2D design course, focusing entirely on the principles of design. I had to create a final composition on 20"x24", which I did using scraps from the ten studies that were also required:
Alongside that, I had to provide four real-world examples of the principles in action. After my camera crapped out, I decided to use the various comics I had lying around in my dorm, including Tank Girl, King City, Tintin, and One Piece. This is a tiny version of the comic principles cobbled together, I'll try and replace it with a more readable version later.

Hey, guys! Sorry I've been pretty quiet as of late, but schoolwork has been consuming most of my time. I figured I should update to shwo you guys some more of the stuff I'm working on right now. I made a zine for my Basic Drawing class, using life drawings in comic form. You can see a larger version here (http://i.imgur.com/bwrb0.jpg) and if you want to, you can print one out and make a copy for yourself. They're pretty fun to assemble.
I also did another comic essay for a class; here's one of the pages. I didn't have enough time to handletter the boxes, so I ended up picking a random font and just running with that. Hope you all like it!

Hey, everybody! My semester's almost over, but I still have a couple of projects to finish before I'm out of there. Below is a compilation of some bits I made for a 3d animation project- it's gonna have a bunch of 2d paper models in a 3d set, Terry GIlliam style.

Weirdly enough, though my afro is blonde-brown, the goatee part of my beard is light blonde, while the rest of it is bright red. Weird...

More fine art stuff- this one's a still life we worked on for about five class periods. I got a lot of time to nitpick this piece, so I'm fairly happy with how it turned out. Charcoal pencil and smudging stick.
-
I worked on these 'til 5 in the morning, but I'm really pleased how they turned out. My final semester project for a design class asked us to create a currency; I went all-out and designed a shell currency and a tribe to go along with it. I give you... the Gastropazi people.

Working on a proper intro comic for Leland- been meaning to do this for a while, now that I'm on break it should be a little easier. These are my notes from today and last night-
(http://i.imgur.com/aWJMwl.jpg)
I've been researching Buddhist temples and Chinese mountain ranges to get a more authentic look for the Temple of Raditude. Second page is a study of different panel compositions from Transmetropolitan, Akira, and Trigun, and a rough script (still hashing that out- dialogue's still the toughest thing for me to work out). Top page has my initial concept for the Temple, on the bottom right- there's a small walled garden in it that'll be a set in the comic, so I've been plotting that out (on the third page). Lotta work involved, but I'm pleased with how it's shaping up. I plan on taking my sweet time with this one, even though it's only gonna be four-five pages; my aim is to go all out, full color and everything. I hope you all are doing well, and that you have a happy holidays. C:
-
I like the simple design it is very nice and clean, and the research will definitely be good it will add things you may not have thought of to your designs Kudos on going the extra mile and a happy holidays to you too :D
-
You know, I am going to have to hand it you this is a very nice way of researching. I will endeavor to do likewise in this fashion and do the best I can with it.
Thank you Zest. :)

awesome stuff I'm really impressed with your attention to details to little objects. like that necklase.

Thanks, you guys. C:
I'm working on a New Year's/belated Christmas-gift-thank-you card, and here's the logo for the front. Learning how to use clipping masks made this ten times easier.

First up, a new sketchdump for the summer. My goal this summer is to improve my environments, which means more plants, more houses, and more vehicles. I like to do pages like the last one late in the evening, when I'm feeling loosey-goosey. It's a nice wind-down, and sometimes gives me great ideas.

man,...i started browsing from page 3 in your topic,..so much stuff to comment on ! :o
but in a good way,i find it pretty amazing that you can switch from cartoons towards ,childeren pictures book like style,to realism(example the hands,..they rock ! page 3)
so yeah just s generic comment but thats because i have seen so much varation in your work, and i love it !
oh yeah ! i do think that for that cd cover ,the frontside is missing some definition in that ''Eager sign'',..just the pink ''cloud'' i mean.
good stuff all around

Many thanks to you. C: I love trying to work in different styles; within reason, I feel like all artists should at least be able to stretch their work a bit to avoid being pigeonholed.
Speaking of which, here's something in a slightly different style than how I normally work.

Poster I was inspired to create after seeing this crazy-cool music video. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ1LI-NTa2s) The song is "Bizness" by the TuneYards (not interested in spelling it the way they do, that's just annoying). Weird spelling aside, they're one of my new favorite bands. If you're cool with something a lil more experimental, click the link and give a listen.
EDIT: Changed the font style to something I feel works better with the piece.

Dug a bunch of old sketches and decided to put 'em together. I want to do one of those art improvement memes, but first I have to figure out what year these were all made...
Top three are from when I was... 12? 10? Somewhere before middle school, I imagine. The following below are through middle school, the lower pics getting closer to the end of my junior year of high school- that was about 2008, for reference.

New sketchdump from the last couple of weeks- some concept stuff from my last battle with David Birch, CD cover I've been working on, nature studies to improve drawing trees and rocks and stuff, and lots of other stuff.

Man you really fill up those pages! Love all the random little faces.

Thanks~ I love drawing those silly little faces.

Here's a Sesame Street piece I've been working on the last couple of days. It was quite fun to draw all of my favorite characters. Void, who's your favorite Muppet?
-
Haha you weren't around for it but there was a meme for a short while in the forums in which everyone switched their avatars with their favorite muppets. If you look at Toast's avatar you can see he's still carrying it on proudly with his favorite muppet.

Grover, The Count, and Cookie Monster.

anyone that knows me well should be able to guess pretty easily.

Earlier this year a friend of mine asked if I could design a cover for her NaNoWriMo project. At the time I was busy with class stuff, but I promised I'd do it once I had some free time. Well, I found some free time, so this was the result. The story itself is about an assassin living in a steampunky coastal city- my initial designs focused more on the setting, but there was one tidbit she gave me about the world having toxic butterflies that intrigued me. I thought it'd be an interesting image to incorporate into the cover, so I went with the design you see above. The splatters were created through a Spraypaint Splatter brush set and a Manga Blood brush set, and the fonts are a modified No Curves Boustrophedon (courtesy of the Open Font Library) and some Eccentric font I found already on Windows. I'll try and find links for those who want to use any of those tools.
The piece was just for fun, although she said she might publish sometime in the near future. What I read was pretty interesting, and she said she was still in editing mode, so I can't wait to see the finished result.

The close-to-final DVD menu I created for the Governor's School for the Arts New Media 2011 DVD. This compiled all of the shorts the students created over the three week camp, including films that allowed us to borrow actors from Drama and get soundtracks composed by Insturmental Music. The 12 students were divided up into three teams, which led to my idea of organizing the DVD by their teams. Plus, it gave me a chance to make some cool logos for the students. This was my first time working with Encore, but I was surprised at how well integrated the program was with Photoshop. I can import a PSD document and have layers named a certain way to automatically create buttons, and if I need to change anything, I can hit a button and open the document up in Photoshop and it'll immediately update in Encore when it's done. Cool stuff.

Also, concept art for vehicles in my GN Club contribution.
And an unfinished color script, because I think these things are fun to work on.

I love your style, it's ridiculously creative and shows a lot of energy. I also like how you experiment with a lot of different things (Objects, people, landscapes).
As for crits, your colors look fine but if you leveled them up your work would look even better (Sometimes they come a little simplistic in color I guess). Keep it up!
-
Thank you very much! :D But I am curious, exactly what do you mean by simplistic color? I'm a little confused as what specifically that entails.
-
I really dug the stuff in your sketchbook and would like to see more of it. makes me realize I gotta utilize space more in mine!
-
Thank you very much. C: I used to waste sketchbooks a lot, so now I try and cram them all with lotsa little doodles.

Style test for upcoming comic. Pulled together assets to see how they all looked in the same space.
Started as a doodle, decided to go whole-hog on it before I went to bed. Trying to incorporate everything I've learned about digital art recently, including texture overlays, shading masks, locked-down colored lines and the use of blacks.

Tank-Home, the home of the post apocalypse!
Looking good, bound to be a good time! Looking forward to more, Theo!

So.... I have this crush on a webcomic called Cucumber Quest, and it's the most insanely adorable and lovable comic I have read in a long long time. If you aren't already following the comic, correct yourself immediately and begin here. (http://cucumber.gigidigi.com/?webcomic_post=page-1)
Anyways, I am in love with this comic, and I decided to find a nerdy way to express my feelings. It may just be me, but I would love a roleplaying game based off of the comic, if only as an excuse to have tiny little miniatures of Almond and Cuke to play with. Actually, I might just take the minis.
-
(http://i.imgur.com/fBtZvl.jpg)
whoa. as a fan of RPGs and TRPGs that looks sweet as hell. I can't imagine the webcomic creators not being happy with your efforts!

Concept piece for a comic I'd like to do in the future. Wanted to try scribbly French inking style, practice values and some digital painting.

Fanart for the excellent Gunnerkrigg Court, inspired by the current chapter. More digital painting practice... wonder if I could sell this and the CQ piece as prints at a con.
EDIT: Almost forgot about this thing.
I did a late-night Flash-animated RPG mock-up. Click on the image to see the animated version, and on the lower-right is a hyperlink to see the full=size version.

I like that black and white one, though I don't really see any digital painting elements on it really. Still, its pretty cool and lively. I dig it!
-
Thank ya. C: Mostly the digital painting was some of the shading on the characters, but that's about it. ^^"
Some environment studies I've been working on- analog inks and Photoshop coloring.

Gorgeous scenes. I need to try some of those to practice backgrounds--you've definitely inspired me!
-
Thank you! I'm glad to hear it's motivated you. I'm really enjoying these scenery studies, I'll probably do some more and try some without reference once I feel confident. In the meantime, here's a tribute I made for Mary Blair's 100th birthday.

An attempt at an original environment scene. This is a revamped version of the first draft- I spent a good amount of last week sketching horses and riding equipment to fix that part.

-
That forest is beautiful, Theo!
-
Yeah thats a pretty wicked piece. The trees and atmosphere are pretty well done.
-
That's some really solid cartooning, and the coloring looks great. The perspective looks a bit iffy, though.
-
nice stuff man,i just love how diverse your work is ,the perspective is indeed a bit of ,i think its the horse thats should me turned to the right a bit more(horse p.o.v)otherwise its looking pretty solid man !
-
Thank you all so much! I'm really glad you all like the piece. I totally agree, the perspective is off, but live and learn, I suppose. My folks asked me to make a wishlist for the holidays, and I gave them a list of a bunch of art instruction books- that ougha help, at least a little bit.
Here was my home work for today. I'm working on a mobile game pitch for one of my classes. We won't actually be making the games, but I'm having fun with it anyway. I decided to go with a turntable-based fighter concept I came up with some time ago. Players use a turntable (in this case on the touchscreen) to play animations backwards and forwards to control their character. For example, an animation that is a looping walk cycle to the right can be played forward to make a character move to the right; spinning the turntable backwards causes the animation to play backwards and make the character move left. The buttons on either side of the wheel are the animations the player can use in battle- they can be swapped out for new moves, bought with in-game credits won from winning matches against either human or computer opponents.

Nice, videogame mockups like that are always cool. Keep it up!

More mock-up work for the Viking fighting game project, this time designing a menu system.
The hall is the first thing you see in the game, and each podium holds one of your playable characters. The player taps on the character they wish to use, then select one of the three options from the banner: Arcade, which is the single-player mode; Arena, which is the online multiplayer mode; and Customize, which allows the player to buy new gear for their character and swap it out with their old equipment. The banners are going to be a constant visual motif- all of the menu options will be printed on these banners that roll up and down as needed (something similar to how Rock Band 2 does theirs).

dude, that looks absolutely brilliant! be sure to post it all up when it's done!

I love the cover so far Zest! Can't wait to see it finished!
-
Thank you so much, Hats! I'm gonna be working on the cover for a while, but I can't wait to show the final version when it's ready.
In the meantime, I now hold in my hand a copy of the CD that I did the artwork for. You can actually buy this CD on Amazon, right now. People are actually buying things with my artwork on it- I feel absolutely fantastic.

Hoo lord, it's been a while since I posted in here. To make up for it, here's some fanart.

I was inspired to sketch this late last night after joining Pottermore and wanted to try coloring it this morning. Hufflepuffs have the coolest dorm in my opinion- it's a real shame JK Rowling wasn't able to work it into the books.
-
Hehe, nice... can't go wrong with squiggly magical effects ;D
-
Nice! Be careful with the brownish yellow tones though, they're looking sort of gray/black in the darkest tones on the image.
-
Thanks, guys. C: And Angie, by the darkest tones, are you talking about the ones at the top of the page? I totally see that now- would it just be a case of making them more saturated?
-
Yeah that should work!
-
Gotcha. C:
Since Hats was awesome enough to draw her Pottermore self and mine as wizards, I decided to return the favor, as well as practice color some more and fiddle with texture brushes.
-
BEYATCH
I love you for this, you wrothless hufflepuff you.

Dude those are looking pretty solid so far.

I think if you made the tentacles green and had them kind of dragging the green in with them you'd get some nice colour pacing there! But they are looking real solid.
-
Thresher, sorry for the hella late reply, but I did change the tentacle, and it totally made the piece better! Thank you. c:
And here's some more color work, this time from a sci-fi horror pitch I found on PencilJack.

The (long expired) job listing asked for a colorist with a painterly style, so I decided to give painterly style a try.
-
Nice Art, line work and coloring. Can't wait to see more.

Thank you very much, Ponbiki! Sorry I've been away so long, school's been kinda crazy. But that means I have lots more art to dump. :D
Here are a bunch of short comics I've been drawing for my senior capstone, a mini-anthology of original stories drawn and (for the most part) written by myself.

Here's an in-progress comic for my senior capstone. After this, I'll have roughly 20 pages. I hope to have 30 by the end of the semester and another 30 by the end of next spring.

I've also been busy with a special project my animation professor is leading. He's developing a mobile game about fish hunting each other, and asked me to design the character models. Over the last couple months, as a special Senior Practicum course, I've been working with him to design three species with four stages of growth. Here are the character sheets with each of the species and growth stages:

And the three adult forms with a test color palette:
The professor is currently modeling the adult Barracuda, and will have animation students model, texture and rig the others for his game.
I also did some professional coloring work earlier this fall. A local company called Eureka Comic Labs approached me to color a cover for two of their series. The first was a superhero action series called Ugly Mofo:
The second, a horror series called Gamers Vs. Zombies:
I've still got more work in the pipeline (including my intro comic for Chimp Change), so there'll be plenty more where all that came from. I hope you guys enjoy reading my work as much as I enjoy drawing it!
-
Sloooooowly working on finishing the Chimp Change intro comic. I was hoping to do a toned or even colored entry, but I might just do pure black and white depending on how soon my patience runs out. I really wanna get back to battling.

Such a cool character! Also, your fishies are adorable :)
-
Thank you! I can't wait to finish the comic. c:
I'm also trying to do more warmups and practice pieces in between big projects. I was hoping to do a quick ink piece to warmup in the morning and color it in the evening to cooldown, but we'll see if I can stick to it. Here are the ones I've done so far:

That last one is today's warmup, so time willing I'll get it colored tonight~

Dayum, over 120 days without posting? Man I am behind. Let's fix that.
Cover for a short 10-page comic I'm doing for a Kickstarter. I'm basically doing it for practice and portfolio, but the writer/project manager says if it breaks $800 then I'll actually get some money for it. So if you feel like it, you can chip a couple bucks in and get a digital copy of the story and another one two more artists are doing.
This, on the other hand, is my current pet project. A fairytale horror story called Cradlepit Cave, which will be debuting on CupofComics.Com. Just for you folks, I'm posting the first three pages:
It's gonna be a long story, but I aim to have it completed by the end of next year... money, time, and health willing. *gulp*
In other things I'm making for other people, a friend of mine is presenting a Japanese ghost story she translated into English. She asked me to provide some illustrations to go with it, and I happily obliged:
The story is about an inn that discovers it has a haunted futon in one of its rooms. A little bit of investigation reveals that the futon originally belonged to a poor family with two kids. The parents died from starvation, and the kids were sent out onto the street. When even their futon was stolen from them, the two huddled together in a snowstorm and quietly froze to death. Not the cheeriest of endings, but hey.
Good to see you all again :'D

Thanks! Geez I need to be more frequent about these updates. Let's start with a quick dump of one of my comics from earlier this year, a supernatural horror/mystery story called Eras: Fung. It's written by a guy named Luke Herr, who's doing a series of short stories with public domain superheroes. It was a bit of a pain, but good experience. Damn shame the guy still hasn't shipped out the books for Kickstarter backers, though.

Jeezy pete I am bad at updating this. Let's roll.

A page from Cradlepit Cave that I particularly liked. The project has had its ups and downs, but it definitely has shown my improvement.

This was my four-page story for PowFlip's Junji Ito-inspired anthology Uzumaximum. Based on a true story, the Kentucky Meat Shower.

This was a story for a Louisville-themed comics anthology. The central character is Freddy Farm Bureau, a staple of the local state fair. Ever fall kids can come see this gigantic statue to ask him questions about farming and Mrs. Farm Bureau. This story was mainly an excuse for me to play with color, since I hadn't used any in so long.

I've been developing a new comic about roller derby magical girls. This was one of the earliest test images:

Then started developing a core cast:

And then a short comic with a transformation sequence:

(I found out Star Slammers is a recently-rebooted sci-fi action comic, so I had to change the name a bit.)
Now I'm making scripts for the first chapter and brewing some other story ideas. Not sure what my timeline on this is, I'm just having fun with this.
