Ikiru by Akira Kurosawa

this movie is an absolute classic and anyone who would call themselves a film buff has to watch it at least once
everytime I watch it, it always pulls at the old heart strings.....

as is common with Kurosawa's films it is beautifully shot and the message and story is deeply affecting....this one has sat iwth me for a long time and I have watched it over and over again

The Fountain is probably my favorite movie SHUT UP DON'T JUDGE ME

And I've watched the Big Lebowski about 8 times last couple of days, horribly and tragically edited for cable TV... that's a good one

I just got like 13 DVD's yesterday.

Gladiator extended special edition.(3 discs)
Transporter 1 and 2
Snatch
Monsters, Inc.
Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo
Severance
Ultimate Avengers the movie
Snakes on a Plane
Smokin' Aces
Night at the Museum
Employee of the Month
Waiting

They're all movies i want to see/haven't seen in ages, but i was let downs by some of the ones i wanted to see.

Snakes on a Plane is horrible, i can't stand snakes and it just wasn't worth the time for me, it wasn't thrilling...it wasn't funny...it wasn't anything but snakes fucking biting people, which annoyed the SHIT outta me.

I watch too many films, too be honest.

Why bother dumping a list into these threads instead of, you know, actually saying something about a movie or something.

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance is a Korean flick about a deaf-mute guy named Ryu. Sort of.

Ryu's sister needs a kidney transplant, but he's a) not compatible and b) poor as hell. So Ryu and his crazed socialist girlfriend embark upon a plan to get the money. Hijinks and revenge ensue.

I think I actually like this one better than Oldboy, another famous Park Chan-Wook flick. Well worth your time.

edit: Shit, Elio already dropped the hammer on the listing.

thats a pretty good one, indeed his name Ryu and he had the brilliant idea of kidnaping the bosse's daughter...

as for myself:
The Devil's Backbone   read about it http://www.reelingreviews.com/thedevilsbackbone.htm
trailer here http://youtube.com/watch?v=fV7sLm98-iU

"What is a ghost? A tragedy condemned to repeat itself time and again? An instant of pain, perhaps. Something "dead which still seems to be alive. An emotion suspended in time. Like a blurred photograph. Like an insect trapped in amber"

I havent seen the movie from the beggining, but its really well made, definetely check it out..

Ooohmmmaann, so many good movies you guys (*_*

Most recent in-theater movie I saw was...

The Wind that Shakes the Barley, really, really sad movie about the Irish revolution. One of those movies where half the time I did't understand what anyone was saying, but the emotion and intensity of the situation explained all things. Wonderful acting and camerawork as well..

Also:

Watership Down, seriously, watch this movie (there's a Youtube link in the Youtube thread), it will make you cry.

Paprika-new movie by the dude that did Perfect Blue, Paranoia Agent, Tokyo Godfathers, and Millenium Actress. Even if anime isn't your thing, it's a beautifully animated movie and is well worth checking out. http://youtube.com/watch?v=fcUyB8hl8ro the trailer, I also posted a link to the whole movie in the youtube thread.

Heathers-still one of my all time favorites, totally awesome movie from the 80s. http://youtube.com/watch?v=LQ-3rikUQ34 Come on, who can turn down a movie with lines like "fuck me gently with a chainsaw"

Royal Tenenbaums-another favorite http://youtube.com/watch?v=IKtRmBZPmPg the first 6 minutes of the movie for convincing

Jacob's Ladder-really weird bizarre ass movie, if you're a Silent Hill fan and haven't seen it, you're really missing out as this film was a huge inspiration to the game.  http://youtube.com/watch?v=pTJJzVdhw54 the trailer

I know I've been beat to it but it's basically my favourite movie right now. The end always makes me cry and I have no idea why. D:

The Science of Sleep!

Also, Silent Hill.

Not as good as the games, but still pretty amazing, imo.

Jacob's Ladder was a really great flic...so was the Royal Tannebaums(although I watched it with 6 other people and ended up being the only one that didn't get up and leave....I quite enjoyed it...... and Heathers was a nice homicide to all of those John Hughes Films from a few years earlier

i just laid my mitts onto some copies of three really good ones

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

A really great film with a really great cast(Roth and Oldman are terrific together...it's rare that I laugh outloud repeatedly when watching a film...but these two together as a modern Abbot and Costello really got me) all based on a really creative and entertaining existentialist concept involving Hamlet by Shakespeare as both plot and device.

Ravenous

This also has a pretty good cast and is definitely kooky and creepy...and well lots of cannabalism. But not so much ion a splatterfest way....in a more entertaining independat film sorta way.

Night on Earth

This one is great. A series of shorts all done by Jim Jarmucsh..if oyu aren't familiar with him....make yourself familiar with him...and they all have to do with taxi cabs.... Benigni's performance alone is worth tracking it down.....but you might wanna fast forward past the one in L.A. with Winnona Ryder.....and possibly turn down the volume for the part with Rosie Perez.....plus it has a soundtrack by Tom Waits which should be a definite plus for anyone with ears

the science of sleep

i second this movie. it has a great vibe and i could relate to the main character.
michel gondry is a brilliant man. (remember knives out music video for radiohead anyone???)

cube

i watched this last week and it blew my mind. like kafka if he watched nothing
but star trek or something. check it out.

also, Alexander is the worst film ever. Colin Farell can suck it.
