Only on the ipad and in Comic Sans? That's so tragic and saddening it makes me want to redownload it illegally and reletter it in something not ugly. Matsumoto doesn't deserve this.

Also, I recently read the first issue of Nonplayer

It's very gorgeous and the ending of the first issue was surprising.

Elio put up one of his books for viewing online, and of course it's adorable. You can read the adventures of Mr. Puzzle here.

Anyone other than me and Kent reading The New 52? any thoughts? has DC finally fucked themselves out? Or is this the coolest shit ever?

You do realize the whole reboot's just a ploy for them to keep screwing over old creators & their families, right? It's all a way to get out of honoring copyrights.

Fuck that.

The reboot is unapologetically a way to make money.  The parent company told DC that they're not making money so they better do something or else.  And so DC is doing just that, naturally it's going to be a money scramble.

The copyright thing is actually done through the movies.  DC has to keep producing movies to prevent those copyrights from falling back to their original owners (Bob Kane's estate who made Batman and Siegal And Shuster's Estate who made Superman).  Because the Siegal estate actually won the  case and they're getting paid what they're owed from everything Superman's been on except the movies.  So now we're getting a Superman movie fast tracked...

That too.

Because the Siegal estate actually won the  case and they're getting paid what they're owed from everything Superman's been on except the movies.

That's the film rights you're talking about though. Same thing with the studios Marvel sold rights too prior to opening their own studios. There was a ruling a couple years about elements in Action Comics 1 no longer belonging to DC. And it seems like one of the ways the company is trying to make money is to avoid having those elements come up in the comics & not have to pay off the respective owners. Thus: Reboot.

It's really kind of funny though. Even if it was this kind of insidious corporate ploy, there was so much potential to shake things up & make it really interesting & at least try something crazy & truly new. But at the end of the day, it kind of looks like they made every wrong move. The most recent one I had to chuckle at was the Amanda Palmer now looking like Halle Berry instead of Angry Nell Carter thing. Hilarious.

I’m currently reading a webcomic called ‘Ratfist’ by Doug TenNapel (Creator of Earthworm Jim).

It follows the story about a guy who’s pressing on 40 who’s a bit of a rat, dresses up like a rat (think batman), is obsessed with rats and is slowly turning into an actual rat.

Doug TenNapel is quite political so in an ‘interview’ of sorts he expressed that it’s somewhat his view on that people in society are like rats. But if you don’t want to look into the ideology of the plot, it’s still enjoyable plot.

The humour is a good mix of goofy and witty, and doesn’t throw the pop-culture, and his past projects, references in your face too much to the point it could get dated in the future.

The artwork is nice, I’m really in love with that style of lineart and a woman called Katherine Garner does the colours, which are just as lovely.

The pacing throws you into the story straight away, but if you’re familiar with Doug’s work (Such as the game ‘The neverhood’) it doesn’t come to much surprise, I’m not far enough into the story to see if the pacing slows down a bit as the story gets going, but hopefully it will. But webcomics do naturally have a different pacing to printed comics/graphic novels (in my opinion).

You can check out the comic here at www.ratfist.com

Animal Man is the coolest shit ever.  All the rest are feh to fine.  Swamp Thing was kinda cool too, atleast the art was nice.

I have heard that the two best writers (Scott Snyder and Jeff Lemire, Swamp thing and Animal Man respectively) have gotten really buddy buddy.  So we can expect shoutouts and probably crossovers in the future.

Dan and I have been reading.  Most just kinda happen, some are terrible, and a small number are pretty good.  The books seem to be noticeably darker and more violent than they have been, but I haven't figured out how I feel about that yet.

A business wants to make money?!  I'm shocked!

DC's tired of Marvel routinely kicking their ass on monthly sales of singles and is trying something new.  I respect the intent (though think it's misguided*) and promised not to pirate them.  I'm getting all 52 number 1s and will decide which to continue picking up from there.

*Marvel beats DC on sales of single issues, but DC soundly beats Marvel at selling trades and OGNs.  What sucks is Vertigo is getting the shaft in this, to the benefit of 70 year old characters.  And I spend a lot more money on  Vertigo/Image/Oni/Indy books than heroes.

Dan Didio said something in an interview recently about not intentionally not letting characters age that pissed me right the fuck off and showed me how he doesn't have a damn clue.

Of course.  But I applaud DC for not pretending they aren't like some companies are wont to do and telling us up front that this is the motivating factor.

Alright I didn't want to get into it too much because I already elsewhere but I'll weigh in on the New 52.  Animal Man and Swamp Thing are really the best comics so far.  They are my favorites.

Other titles I liked include Batwoman, Frankenstein, Superboy, Batgirl, Justice League International, and Men of War.  I'm a consistent fan of Superboy and Batgirl titles so I'll always follow those.

I am on the fence about Batwing, Action Comics and Demon Knights.

I'm honestly quite excited for the Red Hood and the Outlaws and I can't wait to see kr.'s stunning artwork for it.  Even if the story turns out to be shit.

I still can't wrap my head around the awful Teen Titans redesigns (what the hell is up with that Witchblade wannabe chick?).
Oh and Suicide Squad is absolute shit.  It is the worst of them all.  Burn it with fire.

I could say more, but why?

Oh and in other news I'm really excited about the idea of The Spectre tv series.  The Spectre and the Phantom Stranger being my all time favorite DC characters.

Suicide Squad was torture porn.  And I'd declare Grifter the worst so far.

As someone's mentioned Jeff Lemire: I love "Sweet Tooth", while I'm not usually into post-apocalypse stories, he's manage to ensnare my interest and present a compelling story of survival, with the near spiritual journey that goes behind the plague.

Then there's "V for Vendetta", but I'm trying to at least finish volume one of "The Invisibles" by Grant Morrison first.

Ooh I've been intrigued by Cassanova and Sweet Tooth for a while, may have to give them a try!

I definitely enjoyed V for Vendetta and Invisibles. Been a while since I read Invisibles, so I may have to revisit that.

Recently Re-read Batwoman: Elegy, for the story as mush as for the gorgeous artwork.

I've had the Complete Persepolis sitting on my shelf for years, and I haven't gotten around to reading it yet.  I guess I'll move that to the front of my queue.

I found a manga that will come as close to "Helftan the manga" as one could ever possibly get.  Since I am attracted by the twisted and bizarre, I've been reading this:
Kami no Kodomo (God's Child)

Summary:
Then I stood up and began my life.
To get revenge on the world.

The latest work by the Nishioka Siblings depicts the gruesome life story of a ruthless and brilliant serial killer as he grows up from a sociopathic child to a messiah-like figure.

(can't find very good images to hotlink)
