BECK

This is a story about a young kid who is average, he's bored and he lets people walk all over him. One day whilst walking home from school he see's a bunch of kids harassing a strange patchwork dog, he helps the dog and gets introduced to a guy who changes his life.

Over the course of the story we see this kid go from a silly young kid to a confident musician with an awesome band that even visits Rock Festivals across the world and a cute girlfriend.

The parts i love most about this manga are the parts about the band and the romance, i'm not really into the conspiracy and other parts, i enjoy reading about the band performing, practicing, playing new songs and rocking the fuck out and i love the love story, the poor kid runs around a country he doesn't know where they speak a language he doesn't understand trying to find the girl he loves. It's touching and in certain parts it touches you.

It's an emotional ride and i love it.

Decent art, brilliant story, A++ would read again.

ACHEWOOD by Chris Onstad
http://www.achewood.com

probably the only webcomic I keep up with. rereading it over and over, with the strange yet dense character development, imaginative story arcs, and intricate dialogue. it's authored by a Stanford graduate which shoes in the smart writing, I never get sick of it haha.. haha it definitely makes up for the pen tool art with hell of good plot. while there are a few good stand alone strips, I highly suggest reading from the beginning or whole story arcs ahhaha.

Can anyone recommend a wicked solid comic by Moebius that would be available in Canada?

I saw some pics from metal hurlant and prefer that to the stuff i have seen with bad coloring that
was written by jodorowsky.

I am also on the lookout for some Tintin comics.

I think I've seen a lot Moebius and Tintin here in Montreal, but it's pretty much all in French.

good comic book stores should carry the usual Tintin giant Euro-sized books, but there are also small hardcover collections of issues you can get ala:

http://www.amazon.ca/Adventures-Tintin-1-Herge/dp/1405228946/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1206394741&sr=8-1
I'd suggest Amazon if there's nothing in your area. Everyone needs Tintin.

You'd probably dig 'Arzach' a lot. There's no dialogue, just weird pteradyctal-inner mind mayhem. If you're lucky, you can find the old Heavy Metal issues with it at a used book store, or maybe the collection at a decent comic shop. If not, there's always Amazon or something...

The 'Aedena' series is probably his best stuff though. They have trades of all of those in English out now. His shorts are always my favorite though. 'It's A Small World' is so good!!

Or if you're looking for super dense story driven Moebius, there's always 'Blueberry'. One book of that will probably last you a week.

...Also, are you talking about the shitty reprint of The Incal by Humandoids/DC they put out recently, with the butchered re-colors? Stay away from that. Far far away.

It broke my heart to see the homeo-slut with a badly done gradient.

Just got Finished with Brad Meltzer's "Identity Crisis' with Pencils by Rags Morales. Classic DC style detective spoofing. Top notch on the hatchet handle of lives. Then I Beloored (head and arms hang off the edge of a foot high bed as one reads comic book layn open on the floor) through Marvels Civil War event (Miller must watch a lot of Soap Opera). Mcniven was comparable to Rags. But I think Rags one the mothers milk out of this one. I've got Pooh out gettin the Honey just now...can you see the flies buzzing back there?
Labrador!
I was really swept up by DMZ Body of a Journalist. I woulkd like to read the rest of them.
I mean I really like it. You got that Punk? I really, really, liked it! If I didn't know any better; I would work at a Donut glazing company...

'Nough said says plucked socket.

Anyways now I'm reading something I enjoy even though it is so simple in imagery. Jonn Sfar's Vampire Loves. Light and Hearty...just what the doctor ordered.

Well at least i can afford to go off to the library to use the computer and catch up on some much needed reading.

Not Having a Computer thats handy sucks but it does have its rewards as well.

Soon though.... soon I'll be back from the dead with either a Frankenstine convalute or a Nosforatu dugup. Maybe I could even afford to buy one of those brand knew hybrid Vapires.

How can I label computers as if they are the Undead? Well fuck'n Holy Hell; Aren't they!?

Also back thumbing through some Nausicaa: Of The Valley Of The Wind by Hayao Miyazaki.

But yeah even if you're not an Earthling; I think anyone could really appreciate Vertigo's DMZ

Most Recently? Well that'd be Alan Moore's The FORTY NINERS, and  Voughan'sThe Pride of Bagdad.

Wow. Shinga's got to be one of the cleverest comic writers on the planet. I picked up a book from him a while ago called "Bookhunter" and it was just as good.

Bookhunter is also online: http://www.shigabooks.com/books/bookhunter/scrollindex.html

Katie Beaton and I (I think, I've been drinking Colt 45) shared space in our university newspaper's comics page back in the day, and now she makes really funny comics. Her comics about maritime Canada really kill me.

I'm actually behind on one of these thanks to my f'ing extended moving-processes... yeesh. You'd think moving halfway across the country would be EASY... oh wait...  :-\

Anyway, my 'guilty pleasure'(see what I did there) is the Anita Blake comics out by Marvel.

And then I get the Girl Genius when they come out, but also follow it online.

http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/

And then there's always at least one manga series I am interested enough, story-wise, to pick up. Red River, is the current one.

Good series, been out in Japan for a loooong time, but I enjoy the politics and military aspects of it, for all that it has the atypical 'everyone loves the girl' plot.
You're not special. Deal.
