Ok, that's enough pissing and moaning about something that can be fixed with me uploading a comic later.

This is a waste of our time.

Now, can I tell the story of when Gabe, the creator of void, logged into my account and replaced my avatar with an animated gif of a dick hitting me in the face? And you guys think you have it hard (pun kind of intended)?

Do you remember the Post Whore icon? Blindwatchmen received it for posting to much cuz of the posting ranking system back then

PS- I should note I actually think the dumb baby icon idea was dumb, everyone just taking themselves to seriously though.

* Not meeting requirements will result in automatic disqualification from Tourney for the Artist as well as the chance to be shamed by all of their peers.

I hate to say it, but the Dumb Baby icons were actually accounted for in the rules that you signed up with

Oh, it was not.

That is clearly a joke.
If it had said "Not meeting requirements will result in automatic disqualification from Tourney for the Artist as well as being shamed by having your icon and personal title and text in your profile edited with "dumb baby" related imagery. You will have to make a new comic to remove said title and imagry." THEN I would have expected it and not been nearly as annoyed.

Ben instead of sitting around online complaining about bells and whistles, expounding your moral outrage over a virtual slap on the wrist and always talking about what you are going to do....why don't you take some time instead to actually make a comic like you keep saying over and over again you are going to do......as you already correctly identified that is exactly what will solve this and your other personal issues of frequent defaults(on multiple events no less) right quick.

You might also want to take a little time to learn the lesson that maybe you should be taking things at least a little more seriously.....I really can't see how anyone could be expected to take you, your artwork or what you say seriously when you so clearly don't yourself.....so start taking yourself, what you say and what you do seriously.

I hope that was expressively stated enough for you.

-draw like you love it.... not like your mom told you to do it-

Actually that is pretty much the story. Though, Gabe and I spent the next few hours switching my icon to the other getting smacked with a dick. Then we grew to mutually respect each other, Gabe told me I had steel balls or some shit, and everyone lived happily ever after. I think it started because I made a joke about one of his robot peeps looking like Bender from Futurama.

And, the Batman wearing a kimono jam was funny as shit. ;D

they DID say that there was a chance of public shaming :| That's in writing and can be used by whatever means.

One of the major points of this battle was to cut down on defaulting by giving everyone what is essentially a really, REALLY easy task. The fact that nearly 50% of the people who joined could not complete a 3-5 page comic in a month's time is mondo bizarro.

It's a little abrupt these baby icons sure but not completely uncalled for. And the requirements to remove them are, also, really REALLY easy.

Personally if I were the one who defaulted I'd laugh off the dumb baby thing, I think. It's far from a serious insult.

As someone who didn't participate I hope you don't mind me jumping in here, but I know for one that I could not get a 3-5 page comic done in a month what with how busy I am all of the time. Now I guess you would say "well, if you know that then don't commit!" which totally makes sense, and I agree. But naturally, life throws different things at you at different times which you can't always be expected to anticipate. I can understand that it is disrespectful to your opponents to consistently default, but this is supposed to be a supportive, recreational network for growing artists and I find it quite disappointing to see such blatent bullying from mods.

I don't mean any disrespect, but a lot of us are definitely busy and still turned things in.  I can't speak for anyone else, but I changed my entire schedule for two weeks. Going to bed at midnight and waking up at 6 a.m. so I could go to a cafe and get three hours of drawing in before my desk job, then come home and work my freelance.

Also I implore any dissenters to read Bobo's speech in the battle comments, it's comment #30.

I totally understand where you are coming from MisterMints, as I have done the same for VOID battles in the past, staying up until 8am every night and making myself ill because I was (if you can believe it) so scared of the backlash of fellow VOIDers. But it doesn't make bullying an acceptable response towards people who perhaps weren't able to do that. I reiterate my comment on how VOID is a recreational network.

I will state my opinion on this one final time, and then I am going to bed and forgetting about the whole incident.

This is bullshit.

But I will play along, even though I agreed to no such punishment. Not even because I want to finish the comic and get this title removed, but mainly because it seems like I don't have a choice.

I guess, from my perspective, this whole thing equates to parent grounding their child for not doing a chore before they came home from work. While I agree that void as a whole is recreational, this was a tournament with voluntary sign-ups, a competition with a prize (no a title is not a huge deal, I realize), and - I feel - should probably be taken a little more seriously than a standard battle.

I *do* want to concede, however, that while I think a form of punishment is fine, it could have been done in a better way, though I have no suggestions I can offer to that end.

Treating people like babies is condescending and disrespectful.

Re: Short and Sweet

I've always been told by senior VOID members that you should always put school / work / life ahead of VOID if necessary to manage stress and health, since those things are what's really important, and VOID is a safe community where you can experiment and make mistakes.

That's what I did in this case.

Now I'm being "punished" for it for the first time in 4 years.

I know I said I wouldn't continue on about this, but this is just too important.

I have full time job too, everyone does, and this is a recreational work sure but honestly? 4 weeks is 28 days, 5 pages... I'm just looking at this from general perspective, it's not IMPOSSIBLE to do it.

Recreational, If everything recreational and free means rules be damned, things are never going to be fun anymore. free/recreational or not, when you agreed on something you should honour/fulfill it as possible as you could, it's just a good mindset to cultivate regardless the importance as it's simply being respectful to your opponent or others recreational time.

And this is not treating people like babies, treating people like babies is if there's no jab whatsoever. I have to admit I haven't been to void for years, and I don't know what the current generation is like, but first-

getting upset because a change in title is kinda strange since it really doesn't affect everything else- but I could be wrong, maybe it does annoy you to such extent but I was wondering 'because I don't have a choice' as if the punishment will affect you in such personal level. Take a good hard look on the whole situation- is it really THAT bad? It's just a title, and I personally don't even realize there WAS a title until it was pointed out.

about bullying- really? i guess most of you guys are from united states because these are pretty much nothing compared to real life comic community around here or in europe.. friendly jabs (that doesn't sound like one often) are common, not like I'm condoning it but for me reading "I fear the backlash." is a bit strange to me

why do you fear the backlash so much, especially from a recreational site?
The 'backlash' does not affect you whatsoever (or shouldn't be), if what's real life is more important than the comics you need to make. You default, cant battle? welp, whatever happened was more important, oh well too bad come back after a while maybe they will let you battle again, I dunno.

I can say this because I defaulted too several times in the past (lol) but whatever came up back then was infinitely more important and I didn't think I needed to 'fear' the backlash. I DO feel bad because I felt as if I agreed to a certain responsibility yet unable to fulfill it. That's more like common sense/ettiquette and again, free/recreational or not, when you agreed on something you should honor/fulfill it as possible as you could, it's just a good mindset to cultivate regardless the importance.

I taught comic classes so I know young artists tend to put EVERYTHINg off until last minute then ask for extension cause pressure tend to give better work, but that's not the problem of the site or the teacher, that's your own problem.. and i think the good thing about entervoid is, if you use the platform well you can definitely improve in either a) time management or b) speed or c) both.

Using the 'recreational, supposed to be fun' excuse every time is valid, however it is also as valid for the site to exercise the rules, and also there's never anything bad in trying to honour your commitments, they can only do you good.
Get ready- pop it, let's go.
