Crazyhand/Allen

Crazyhand/Allen

Okay, let's do this.

Crazyhand is just a placeholder name for now.

Crazyhand was a scientist working with alternate dimensions when his right hand got sucked into another dimension. When he got it back, it was possessed with an eye stuck on the back, and he had no control over it whatsoever. After it killed off his colleagues, he ran from the cops, fleeing to Void city looking for answers.

This character has a separate writer. He hasn't joined the site just yet but I'll get him to do so soon. Intro comic coming soon as well.

Ahaha, I know you said it was a placeholder ... but I like the name CrazyHand... you should totally keep that :)

First thing that stands out to me is his face/head. I get that he's got his head down, and he's looking up at us, but the angle seems pretty uncomfortable/unnatural ... Look at where his chin ended up in relation to his shoulders... looks like he's pushing his head forward, but he's got his chin down and he's looking up. Try to make that pose yourself and you'll see what I mean.

The only other thing I really want to mention is the color scheme ... I know you pretty much just work in black and white, but you've got an opportunity here to come up with something super awesome. Not saying your colors are bad, they just aren't super thrilling! Assuming you colored this in photoshop, it takes seconds to change a color ... so why not play around a bit? Try http://www.colourlovers.com/ for some inspirations?

Also, pretty cool that you're doing artist/writer collabo!!

I saw what this started as, and it's a step up, haha.

Also color in the lines. Heh, looking forward to the intro. Be careful with color choice.

Another drawing. Probably won't become the design sheet reference-- his head is far too large. Will have to redraw it probably.

Comics are still incoming. In the meantime, any ideas on design and colors would be greatly appreciated!

Full name: Allen Marsh
Age: 31
Occupation: CEO of Royal Chip Casino
Favourite movie: Clockwork Orange
Favourite color: All of them
Favourite song: Cracking Skulls by Twin Gauntlets (this is an actual band in VOID, they play death metal)

Ailments / Illnesses: Schaudenfreude Synesthesia - his senses bleed over from the suffering of others.

Allen is brutal, unforgiving and mentally... well, stable. He enjoys synesthesia he gained in an accident of sorts. He has enough money and influence to destroy any man physically, financially or by breaking their hearts (applies only to women, though). As a very powerful man in political circles, he has bribed the police to not arrest him. This allows him do whatever he wants, and he does.

Due to his synesthesia, he enjoys beating the shit out of anyone and anything. He sees beautiful colors and hears amazing music, to which he is addicted to like a drug.

During the same accident he gained the synesthesia, he lost his hands, and is now wearing two giant metal gauntlets that are attached to his arms. The method he uses to wear a normal shirt or jacket is a mystery and is considered black magic by some.

All writing for Allen is done by inestical. Let's do this!

Hey there!

Before I start, what's the deal with Crazyhand now, are we dropping him or just throwing out other ideas? I don't want you to spread yourself too thin. Believe me, I know how easy it is to get swept up in ideas and not be able to follow through.

Okay, so on the subject of Crazyhand's swanky design sheet, it's looking pretty good. He looks a little on the short side. Not saying that's a bad thing. If that happens to be your intention, then great! I also want to comment on his chain. It looks like he's got his arms chained together? Each to their own, but in my opinion having my good hand tethered to my extra-dimensional-seeing-hand is gonna make certian things preeeetty difficult, especially with it looking at me, you know what I'm sayin'?

And how adorable does that hand look.

Right, on to Allen. Allen surprised me. He looks like a pretty placid, well rounded fella. Gauntlets aside. Then we realise he gets his kicks from death metal and the screams of the tortured? I'm down with that. It's a nice juxtaposition. Very Bateman. But reading that he can have any woman, kill any man and not be arrested kinda makes him sound like a bit of a God character. We don't want your writer (and readers!) getting bored of him because he doesn't face any struggles. It would be much more interesting if he had to keep his bludgeoning habit a secret from the police, wouldn't it?

And as an overall note, Base, don't be afraid of details. It's fantastic to see that you are focusing on body shape, character design and even perspective, but it's good to remember things like shirts having buttons, belts having holes, and shoes maybe  having laces. Just little things like this can really help ground a design. A great design is often based on great functionality. (Thanks Uncle Ben)

I'm eager for your updates, fella.

Quick note before real updates come flooding in: Both characters are on the table as separate entities. They each have separate writers so I'm treating them as completely separate entries to Void. Whether the approval committee treats them separately or not is another concern, but I'm going with whichever gets done first writer wise.

Thanks!

Haha, maybe you should pick one sooner rather than later incase your writers think you're stringing them along. If you love them, let them go.

And you can have more than one character. They wouldn't be submitted as a pair. Although it's frowned upon to submit a second character after only just submitting the first. There is no reason however that you can't submit again later on.

Frazzler: you're right about being a bit too powerful of a character. I made some changes that make him more interesting anyways. Just some minor additions, mind you.

Here's the slightly revised bio:

Full name: Allen Marsh
Age: 31
Occupation: CEO of Royal Chip Casino
Favourite movie: Clockwork Orange
Favourite color: All of them
Favourite song: Cracking Skulls by Twin Gauntlets (this is an actual band in VOID, they play death metal)

Ailments / Illnesses: Schaudenfreude Synesthesia - his senses bleed over from the suffering of others.

Allen is brutal, unforgiving and mentally... well, stable. He suffers from enjoys synesthesia he gained in an accident of sorts in which he also lost his hands - now replaced with huge metal gauntlets.

Due to his synesthesia, he enjoys beating the shit out of anyone and anything. He sees beautiful colors and hears amazing music, to which he is addicted to like a drug.

He has enough money and influence to destroy any man physically, financially or by breaking their hearts (applies only to women, though). As Allen has a very high profile status, he can't just go out on a rampage. He can bribe the police to an extent due to his political influence, but otherwise he needs to be very, very, careful from who and when he gets his weekly 'fix'. He can't get his fix from strong willed people, or people who can't feel misery though, so he needs suggestible and emotionally fragile targets.

The way he is able to wear a normal shirt or jacket is a mystery and is considered black magic by some.
If I dream of impossible, should I forget it?

WOO Ok Let's do this. Here's some sketches and a design sheet for you guys. Gonna get this finished ASAP and send it in, so feedback is appreciated!

Wutata is busy with his own stuff so I'm just working alone now. Might as well throw this in the ring and see how it goes!

Updated bio:

Crazyhand used to be a scientist. While working with alternate dimensions, his hand got sucked into a portal and when he pulled it out, it was possessed by something not quite right. As a result, he has no control over it, although he can decide whether to 'work' with it or not, constantly feeling another presence battling for control in his mind. He's not aware of it yet, but the dimensional residue is spreading like a virus over his arm, taking more and more control with it. His hand, in the initial confusion, killed a LOT of people, making it hard for him to find work; in fact, he's on the run from the police, and after visiting a certain person 4 years ago, has come to Void to see if there's more that can be done about it.

That's the gist of him. Cheers!
