Month of the Dead 2010?
« on: Aug 09, 2010, 08:25 PM »
For those unfamiliar, the past few years we've allowed dead characters to return to active matches during the month of October.  Fun AND controversial!

Just trying to make some plans for the rest of the year
DJ Neko: Thank you entervoid, you're like the abusive husband I keep coming back to. <3

I'm probably the only guy here right now who thinks that this really shouldn't be happening every year.

Yep, because we definitely need less incentive to do comics on the site.

No, I believe if you gamble on the site and you lose, you move on and make a new character. It's not that hard now, is it?

Let's just make the site less fun.

You two are doing a fantastic job of that by shitting on Phill. Back off jackoffs.
Be nice Jack.

You wanna know what's less fun than that and makes me not want to do anymore comics for void? Getting into a death-match yourself, causing a shitload of drama as a result of your own petty broken feelings, and then after winning your opponent revives that character and never uses it again thus making the whole thing meaningless.

IT'S LIKE DEATH-MATCHES DON'T MEAN ANYTHING ANYMORE! :D

Look, I'm sorry folks, but I believe when you gamble and you lose, you just start over anew. Isn't it better to keep drawing than to wait 11 months to compete again? Or am I just not fun as others might seem to think?

No one's saying not to move on, but 1 - 2 1/4 month out of the year isn't that much time to spend to let people come on in and use their SDT characters again. Most everyone with a dead character HAS an alive character to use already or are going to make one.

The opinions being given are valid, some people like to obsess over one idea while others like to move on and generate more ideas and more work, and some people choose to do both. And Rofl you're killing your own argument.

I like Month of the Dead a lot, but I wonder if the whole Christmas wouldn't be special if it happened every day thing doesn't apply to MotD happening every year.
Be nice Jack.

This is a strong argument, but I'm not sure if the facts reflect Phil's fears. If we had a large group of users who only come out to play during MotD, I can see how one month every year might be too much. I can't recall this being the case, but I could be wrong. Link to some repeat offenders of this sort of thing, and the argument against an annual MotD will bear some weight.

How would this be an different than someone who comes once a month out of the year at any other time though? In the end, you're still only getting one comic from them that year. Better one comic than no comic.

Well, it's the idea that if MotD becomes an expected thing, we'd see a drop in activity over the rest of the year as people gravitate towards their favorite dead character instead of making new ones and battling for the rest of the year. Hell, as a recent owner of all dead characters, I can attest how easy it is to drag your feet on making someone new.

MotD was the reason I came back to Void after leaving.

I think if we had a drop in activity because of the rest of the year, that means something's not going right.

EDIT: Really, people usually expect an sdt out of us once a year but no one's wanting to get rid of that event, you know?

EDITEDIT: Also, I totally meant no offense, Phill.

Things like the Invitational Tourney make me want to draw comics again.  Things like this make me not want to draw comics anymore.  Death matches, the best matches, have no meaning anymore.  That's not fun.  And, honestly, this event failed pretty badly last year.  If this was any normal event or tournament, it'd get at least a year off.

But, I am assuming MOTD will happen, so can we place some sort of cut off on the matches?  It's Month of the Dead, not Two Months of the Dead.  People shouldn't be cheating the event that let's them cheat.

I WANNA DRAW A GOOD STRAPS BATTLE . Or at least one with my improvements since SDT so if I have time for motd and it happens I will :D.
