Fight like Men (9/1/09: Tortoise & Hare)

Fight like Men (9/1/09: Tortoise & Hare)

The first part of my webcomic recently finished. It ended up being over 200 pages long.

The idea was that, imbued with the mental faculties of modern man, could animals construct and maintain a society? Or do they succumb to conflict? I was going for an aesop's fables/watership down/once upon a time in china/super robot anime vibe.

Here are some action scene selections from this story in the overarching theme:

And one point of departure:

Oh holy crap! I've read your comic and got really into it a while back! Welcome to Void man! I hope to hell you stay. Matter of fact just recently I went on the search for it again, ironic you should show up here. : D

To be honest, I have no idea what was going on in any of those action scenes. Hahaha. That seahorse panel is awesome though, and I liked the atmosphere of certain parts.

Wow, very... Chaotic...
I assume this isn't all of the story, because other wise I would say it's confusing.
It looks awesome though, some of it you could print out and hang on the wall, awesome.
Do you use paint then? I'm impressed.

Tha last picture of the kitty makes me want to cry though. T_T

Thanks guys,

That's true, it's only six widely-spaced pages out of a 200+ page story.

If you want, you can read it here (or just jump right to the fight scene like I probably would)

It's a drama, so each page is connected to the one before it. These were just some of my favorites due to the energy I felt I was able to capture.

Freakconformist, you're close. I used Oekaki PaintBBS due to the benefit of an extra layer and some masking ability.

Oh, well, you got to use layers. Well then.  (ironic sarcasm ;) )

Oh hey I think you emailed me once! This looks really really cool. I am glad to hear it's finished and will read it at the first opportunity! Watership Down is one of my favorite books ever.

The lo-res raster linework is an interesting choice; I can't quite figure out how you're doing it... some of it looks like pixel-art I guess. Let me tell you I can't recommend drawing with real-life tools enough. Scan at 600 dpi.

These pages you posted are striking and psychedelic and I really like them.

Hey, thanks Evan! I did e-mail you a few months back about comiXpress and book-printing advice in general. I hope you're doing well in your personal affairs.

I'm gonna be giving a real-media comic a shot at the end of July, during a trip to Canada. Not sure if I can abandon this pixelated look here just yet--it has a special meaning to the story I'm not sure I want to remove.

Will you ink it by hand?

Thanks, Pi. For now, this one is going to be resale-only, a practice in hand-drawn work.

I didn't have time to ink it during my vacation, but I will ink it by hand when I get the time.
