This was an obvious labor of love, time and effort. Not just this comic alone, but the work put in HERE and well as the Jiko and Greg show. Maintaining that overall hype and keeping these guys in the public eye and interest until you could submit this monster is not only smart, but suuuch a great idea. Kudos to you indeed
MORT- From page one, its clear you had a motif and you handled it beautifully. That title page really sets the stage and is also a visually stunning optical illusion. I'm SO GLAD I hung out on a couple of your art streams because I don't think I would've fully appreciated your second pages opening quote if I hadn't listened to 'Me and Mr. Wolf. Not to mention its a great soundtrack to have on in the background while you read this comic. I kinda wish you'd link the vid here!
BUT ANYHOODLE.
I super dig this almost golden era vibe you get from this from the outset. Your wamr tones to the Sardi's restaurasnt nod with the void caricatures on the wall is super rad. Not to mention this is the cutest I think any of us have seen Wizzie. Cementing this pairs friendship is clearly become such a fun project for both you and hats, that's its great to see it come to fruition. I'm sure Jiko agrees once she gets the go-ahead to move in. One of the things I really enjoy is the fact you take the time to stretch actions. Namely Jiko sneaking into the apartment, and searching round for her stuff. I mean, honestly you could've condensed that to one, two panels tops, but I think you purpoesly wanted to up that rising dread that the longer she's in that apartment, the higher chance Greg will wake up and ruin everything. Speaking of, I think you missed a prime opportunity for a 'moneyshot' panel of Greg looming behind her when he comes in. As it stands, I don't think you capture the true impact of who this character is to her and his influence until later in the comic.
I'm not sure if her connection with Elvis has already been established via comics, will be or not, but given that I know and pestered you for deets on her past, I can appreciate the crushing of that keepsake box, but as a stand alone comic, I think this moment is lost for those who've only been following the battles you've busted out thus far.
The action definitely ramps up once the chase is on, but I'm disheartened the most pivotal moments between Greg and Jiko happen on such dark pages. It leaves me relieved that the building rage almost seems to up the dimmer switch so we get a clearer picture of Jiko 'tearing' into Gregs soul the same time he's tearing into her body. I'm glad that the aftermath has them rimlit in red because otherwise, it'd be difficult to make them out beyond the background.
I'm amped to see where this crazytrain stations next. Will we see Jiko head on to happier climes? Will she and Wizzie be great roomies? Will she buy herself a new outfit, or keep this one in the back of her closet for nostalgia's sake? TLDR- moar comics please! <3
Those dark pages are SUPER dark. almost too dark to see the art.
I loved the intensity of this. i do feel like like Greg shows up super fast, but after that it gets into a good groove and stays with it until the end.
Holy shit this is so gooooooooooood~
I especially love the dark scenes. The bright blood looks so forceful and the contrast is almost physically striking.
I was captivated for the entire comic! :D You did really well dealing with the subject matter, too.
The only thing that really bothered me was the coloring in some of the darker pages in the forest. The character colors and the background colors are all pretty much the same value, which blends everything together. The super bright saturated blood and highlights help, but it's still hard to read the characters' faces. If you make the character colors a little lighter, but still desaturated, it would make them stand out more while maintaining the nighttime effect.
I absolutely loved this comic. The narrative, the emotion, the whole connection between characters; it left me 100 percent fulfilled. I need more of this from you!
Thank you everyone ;0;
Oh ZigZagaroo, that's-- intentional-- that's part of the reveal. Greg's werewolf-shapeshifting effects his body more than just 'is he a wolf or not'. In all of his other comics, he's super bulky and muscular, but that's his power. In reality, he's actually Jiko's height, and super skinny.
Amazing, I think you've really outdone yourself with this one. It was a joy watching you plot out these scenes during your streams so beautifully, but now with these finishing touches you added they've become absolutely stunning. I love seeing how far Jiko's come along from her initial beginning, now I'm intrigued to see where she goes from here. My only gripe I have to mention is that in the last few pages Greg is suddenly as tall as Jiko, be careful with those inconsistent heights.
Overall this was a remarkable comic, great work!
This was a freaking intense read, and it's really amazing to see Jiko come so far from where she was when she first appeared in Void! Aside from the intense darkness Pyras already addressed it's looking great!
Elyan, thank you!
Shift is a young robot. I'm actually addressing it a lil in a mini epilogue comic I'm doing, but he's unused to lots of human social things, one being how fragile they are.
that's my fault though-- I need to finish the collab bb where they meet. (THE PAIN OF WANTING PROJECTS TO LOOK PERFECT,,)
EDIT: OH AND ABOUT GREG he really overtaxed himself, but in the end, Greg knows when a 'easy target' isn't worth the effort. Jiko knows too much about him at this point, and clearly he can't kill her, so
great read all in all.
but i wonder... is shift so hardy he is unshaken in a situation like this? the all smily display on the last page felt quiet out of place.
it might be the case that it is relatable when considering previous comics but this just a headscratcher to me.
also you handled the whole abuse topic really great and convincing. but greg giving up and just leaving. it kinda makes sense but it doesnt feel like it would have the impact it did. this is just a minor point though. for someone so brutal and manipulative he is really really calm. but maybe hes just too broken? i dont know.
other than that i loved the whole thing. its not easy to handle such a plot well and you executed greatly
Also Pyras thank you!
Yeah, I think from now on I'm gonna do the Round 2 of Heavyweight method, where the colors were just more blue-focused, rather than try to make it literally dark @__@ before the highlights it was even harder to read! Thanks though!
a grand conclusion to this gripping story, it's great to see Jiko find her strength. The colors and craft are terrific, but the dark scenes are still took dark, in some pages it's to the point that it might as well just be black it's so hard to see what's happening! The backlighting helps a bit, but only with making the silhouettes, it'd be nice to have them in other parts of the body to help out (or just lighten some shades even just a tad)
Great job and great finish, time for new tales!
