@Fox: Awww, Kao5 is such a sweetie! I'm really intrigued by this character's story and can't wait to see more from him! I'd recommend working on adding details to your backgrounds to give them a stronger sense of place. You did a decent job just by your coloring and by keeping the backgrounds visible across panels, so bravo on that front. Just try to add more details, at least for an establishing shot or two, and you'll be golden! @MindMeats: Wow, your character is creepy and I love it! I really hope to see more of this character! I definitely think your backgrounds could use some work, both increasing quality and just adding/showing more detail in general. Either way, I can't wait for more from this character!

@Fox - omg Kao5 is so adorable I'm in love. You really pushed yourself in this comic with the different panels and shapes and camera angles and it shows! Great work, dude, well written, full-color, and such a cute character! @MindMeats - holy Moses right from page 1 it looks creepy! Good use of athmosphere and panels and colors to set the mood. I cannot say anything that hasn't been said before, altho a nitpick, or rather, a doubt: did Claw kill Kao5? Because it is not very clear (I hope not, the poor thing). Anyway, good work! Cannot wait to see what you bring to the table in the future!

Fox: I don't know how you made a satanic serial killer cute, but you did it. The backgrounds need work. You've got a bad case of 'hallway city', and the only cure is reference, reference, reference. I like jumping into Streetview at a random point in a major city, then floating around until I find a scene I like. (Something I need to do more often, absolutely.) Other than that, just try to think about all the clutter on the sidewalks in a real city. Trashcans, tables, trees, signs, etc. The lamp helps, but it still looks a little barren. MindMeats: Both of these comics have me a little confused. Isn't Kao5 a robot? How do you kill a robot? Maybe I'm the one getting it wrong, though. Anyways, the closeups are good, but the pulled back shots suffer a bit. Also, it looks like you're shading with black. If you're going to do that, experiment with different layer settings, like hard light or soft light, otherwise try shading with the color of the ambient light of the scene. You've got the creepy vibe going pretty well, and a stronger handle on color would only make that vibe stronger.

Grats on busting out some radical comics for round one of the invitational! Now that you got that under your belts the only way to go is up, up! FOX- I had to go back to your character bio to figure out what that pink blotch business was. At first glance, I thought it was bublegum stuck in his fur, or a migrating erogenous zone. This is just me, but if this little guy's going to be a high end artificial product, I'd figure the bells and whistles would look streamlined. Perhaps the indicator light could be in the shape of a logo, or symbol. The squiggly blotch just seems so odd. That said, this was an interesting comic! The marriage of violence and sudden amorous friendship opens the door to all kinds of ideas for story in the future. What painful and nefarious clients is Kao5 going to suffer in Void I wonder? MINDMEATS- Upon first glance, I figured this would be a gag character- especially with that paper bag on its head, but from the moment you hit page 1, there's an unsettling vibe in your comic that comes to its culmination when we see what ol' Claw is really up to. Your comics definitely leaves the reader with some questions, but it only has me eager to see you make it to round 2 to find out more.

ah I remember I had to use ms paint to make the text because all of my art programs didn't have very good text editing features ;v; I'll try something else next time as well as the shading! I'll work on a more solid simplistic shading style. Thanks for you guy's feedback so far!! c:

Holy crap, well this went two very different directions! @Fox: Hey man! I've already seen some of your art style due to having seen the pre-Shen parts of Hey Kitty, so it's nice to see that you've joined up here and are still continuing with art! This is such a sweet comic. I really like how kind Kao5 seems to be, and considering his backstory as it reads in the bio it's nice to see that he's able to really read the difference between someone hurting him deliberately and someone lashing out without really meaning to (though jfc, looking at MindMeat's side, haha); I'm really interested to see more of him. Also I really, really want you to fight him against Ishtar Dragon's Samuel, because they're both sweet pure cheetah boys and I want them to be best friends. Artwise, I think this is a pretty good go of things! I've always been pretty impressed with your grasp of character postures, considering that I'm pretty sure Shen said you learned to draw specifically so you could draw your comic, and I think that the interactions here are awfully sweet and fluid seeming. I also really appreciate that you took the time to add bkgs; a little more texture or variation might help them feel more real though! The biggest thing I think would really improve your art is a bit more shading and overall atmospheric lighting, especially in a scene like this. Things look a little bright for a chance encounter under a streetlight! Overall though, very nice work! I can't wait to see more, and really glad you joined! @MindMeats Man, this couldn't be more different from Fox's version, but I love it! I think that the approach you took to paneling is very different from the way you typically see it done on the site, and feels very cinematic! It kind of reminds me of the old vertical scroll comics Endling@DA used to do, in like the best way possible (sorry, I don't mean to be all LOOKS LIKE THIS, this is me trying to say it looks awesome and I really like it). I agree with Inksword in that your style actually really works well in black and white, the color panels end up feeling a little muddier since it looks like you went with black for the shading and it dulls things down quite a lot. Claw is super creepy, and he is definitely pretty unabashedly committed to whatever bad business he's up to right now; it'll be really interesting to see how this develops, and I think he'll fit right in with some of the creepier elements of Void's cast of characters! Looking forward to it! Great job to you both, and I hope you'll do lots more with these guys!

@Mindmeats: I really liked the gloomy feeling to your comic. The only thing is that it relied a lot on its text and the font you chose looked kinda fuzzy like it was done smaller and then blown up or something? It was a little distracting. And man, way to go for putting a background in EVERY panel! I actually like your black and white pages more than your colored, they have a bit more contrast than your colored. Coupled with going for a slightly more cel-shaded look for the shading compared to the soft color shading, they come out a little clearer and less muddied. @Fox: Awww, what a sweet story to put out for such a dark character. I love the fact that you're experimenting with panel composition and not all the panels are square, though some of them seem like they don't really have a purpose. I'm not sure page 2 reads and better with the tilted lines rather than purely horizontal borders and page 4 is really fancy for a back and forth dialogue. Keep experimenting though it's better to be daring and have to pull back a little than the other way around!
