MrNoItAll- You've got some nice cinematic framing to tell this hi-octane chase sequence that seems straight out of a Bay explosive action flick. Your figures and vehiicles are expertly illustrated and polished with nice inks, particularly the bikes which are not easy. However there is a lack of a sense of place and the pages are slowed down with clunky dialogues that don't do much more than establish the presence of the mcguffic of the box. I'd have liked to see more of your character than the cliffhanger ending reveal thus I suspect you ran out of time on this. Altogether though, your technique is solid traditional stuff which I really respect. Now you simply need to work on refining your writing and polishing up the final product so the lettering doesn't diminish your formidable skills.
Josh- I enjoy the very material feel of your pages, the grey tones and white pops are akin to painted cardboard and your inky brush strokes, although simple possess an elegant Japanese fudo brush quality that works well for your specific characters. Your talking heads and silhouettes are somewhat confusing and keep the audience at a distance where I'd prefer to empathize and care for these new characters early in your pages, you don't seem to hit your stride until the fifth page where your layouts and compositions truly begin to succeed in having an energy and clarity suitable for telling the story. Your massive blacks are truly reminiscent of Mignola and you handled the tropes of the Sentai characters well to coincide a story that suited your foe. Also your squiddies are adorable.
Altogether I really dig both your styles and I'm glad you brought it for month of the dead in a big way after too long an absence. Cheers!
MrNoitall: The action was honestly kind of hard to follow which affected my enjoyment :( It's a shame you couldn't get a full story down either
Joshuaeligilly: This feels like a storyboard for an actual cartoon show and that's mostly a good thing! (only slightly bad in that it feels less like a finished product) I really liked this story and your linework/style
good job guys
Thanks for accepting the challenge D!! your high-speed action scene is niiicee!! loved page 3 :) also, it's interesting your take on the humans behind the mask..I have come to learn it is a necessity in Sentai Comics. This was definitely a good 1st act, that got me interested!
I also struggled with merging the stories, so sorry if your character came out as a generic baddie...it was fun for me to make the O into villains!! or are they???
haven't uploaded a comic in a long time and wowww it's all shiny and awesome!! yay new upload thingy!!
looks like my pages are locked and loaded!!
Officially my only void comic not turned in 1 minute before the deadline :)
Looking forward to your side with choppers!
THE O were fun to draw!
