I thougt the graytone washes really suited the story. While the story was simplistic its very admirable that you have a complete beginning-middle-end. I am eager to see you push the bounsaries of your storytelling now--your comics feel complete, so now's the time to get really experimental I think! I'd be interested in seeing what develops :)

Yea I inked everything by hand, and when I did I realized how much of a habit it was for me to draw REALLY BIG (to the point where I forget I need to squish in text). Everything but the speech bubbles were all hand drawn, need to work on cleanliness. Regarding the brushes, I used one brush tip for the entire comic and blacked out areas. I was surprised about the whole 'burn/dodge' thing; it's because I was tweaking the levels and contrast too much when I was working on it (last time not enough contrast, this time too intense lol). I'm just kind of stuck with not wanting it to look like everything was perfect like a gradient, and I'm really bad with the whole painterly methods, just need to find my middle ground right now.

I totes have to agree with the streakiness comments. Instead of using transparency or blending modes to create your range of tone, try using mostly flat, opaque colours and eye-dropping the colours you need. You can also try playing around with the Flow setting. By keeping your Flow at a low percentage (like 10%) and your Opacity at full, you can create those smooth transitions in one pass if you're careful. I think too often you crowd your scenes with your characters. Early on, there's hardly any space in the comic that isn't taken up by people or text boxes, and your framing of the story is a little dull. Like it's alot of mostly sorta-head on shots of the characters talking. I actually think your later pages don't really suffer from that, so maybe you were just having difficulty framing a conversation in an interesting way. The best advice I can give for that is just to look at how other people illustrate conversations, think about how the setting and body language can influence subtext and emotions. Movies are a pretty great source for interesting conversations too, considering there's plenty of movies that are basically just talking and nothing else. From page 6 on, your rendering starts interacting really strangely with the aliasing on your lines. You get these pixel wide borders of colour. I'm actually not really sure what it is, or why it's happening, but watch out for that stuff. Problems with line aliasing really diminish how polished your work seems. It's funny, people talk about this as a horror comic, but it reminds me a lot more of a fairytale. "Bratty kid insults a stranger who proves to be a mystical being" is such a huge part of those old stories. Though I probably just think that cause I'm obsessed with that stuff, and that's also probably why I liked your story so much. I think you could've made it a little creepier by suggested she'd be back to "clean up the haircut" every so often, but it was great. Your hands are totally getting better too, a lot of the hand shots during the night attack scene were great.

I really don't like this story. Several points: - The barber's motivation is weak. "He dissed me" is always a dumb reason to start punching somebody, so it's also a dumb reason to haunt somebody. What you probably could have done was have the kid go through with the haircut, be dissatisfied with it, then the barber comes to visit at night to obsessively try to give the kid a "proper haircut". An obsession is always more creepier than revenge, but if you wanted revenge then you could have the kid actually deal some property damage or physically harm the Barber and then that would have been more believable. - It's hard for me to get creeped out when you've presented the main character to be such a little shit that deserves the punishment he gets. This is a typical setup in slasher movies where the characters are usually assholes so the audience doesnt feel too bad to watch them die. This set up does not work for you on this one. I think you would have been more successful if you had either a more relatable protagonist, or at least somebody we cared enough to not want to see them get mangled. -The punishment is inconsequential. He got his hair cut. That's it? Maybe if the importance of his hair was more established in the beginning it would have a bigger impact, like this kid's hair is SUPER important to him and having it cut would really be his disaster. Personally i think some kind of disfiguration needed to happen, because cutting someone's hair while they're sleeping is more of a prank instead of a scary punishment. Maybe The barber ONLY cares about hair and slashed up the rest of the face creating a perfect-hair-scarred-face kind of deal.

Duuuude! I have read this before and you know I like it... It's a nice balance of creepy and I hope that when you do get the character in we will be in for some more horror treats. Otherwise, I agree that the shading is not ideal. I think it looks a lil bit amateurish (it has the photoshop burn/didge look if you know what I mean... I think everyone has used these for shading at some point in their life? :P). I think you would have been better doing just one flat shade of grey if you were short of time - or whatever else the other guys suggested. Also - Imma waiting for more! :)

It was originally for a comic contest, and so I had to keep it 'child friendly' for the audience when I made it :)

oh fun! It was just as spooky as i hoped it would be! I mean, SHE is, I guess it could be more horrifying if she also cut him up and then in the morning the cuts were gone but the haircut was still there idk Im rambling either way your style lends well to a horror comic, and this came out great! cant wait to see her proper intro pages!

Wow what a great comic! Very entertaining. Could have been a little cleaner though. A lot of the characters' faces look a little derp in most of the panels too. You could really add to it by giving them a bit more directed emotion in their eyes. (Page 4 first panel looks a bit odd, Page 4 7th panel her face looks like whaaat, Page 12 first panel looks a little frog-eyed) Or at least make them stand out a little more. Just practice faces in general. I love the last page's last panel. Good work on that expression. Page 8's hand transformation was awesome too. Awesome twist!

By the way, you can thank Kevin and me for tag-teaming the uploader issue. In the end, it turned out that a required file hosted by another site got moved! Funny how web applications need all their code to function properly. :)

this was nice pocky! my main complaint is the look though. everything is so incredibly streaky, it was distracting for me. I'd say do some blending, or try new methods of digital painting. or different brushes. maybe differentiate more between the way foreground and background are shaded. your figures and hands are looking a lot better, though still need some work.

I was going to wait till I introduce my new character, but decided to post this first as a 'prequel' to a character I'm going to put in void. It was for a comic contest, but I didn't win anything :( (NOTE: Bobo, the uploader isn't working!!! I emailed you the files, cross my fingers they all upload properly)
