I really like your style in this comic--nicely shaded and the backgrounds are well laid-out. I will agree on the crown and ears sort of shifting around, but I'm confident you'll sort that out. Your techniques have come a long way since you started here and you're one of the cleanest most expressive artists here--keep up the good work :D
Sorry I didn't get to this earlier, I'm a loser :(
To me, screen tones are always super cool. I've never really used them, but they look like magic. I'm not sure how much I like that you just have one uniform tone laid across everything. It does create an interesting texture, but I've always thought it was more visually intresting when you use screen tones as another way to describe form, or a way to illustrate varying textures.
I do think you could push texture a little bit more, with both your line work and you're rendering. Alot of the stuff in your comic is sorta smooth, and you don't push too deep into texture when you go for it. The one big exception are all the rock faces on page 2. Those are some awesome craggy rocks. Even later when rock walls show up again, they're not nearly that sexy. Those rocks as well could use some more complex rendering though. Like the light from the door and some core shadows would create some way more intense form.
It gets harder and harder to critique your stuff dude. Your comics are just so polished and professional looking now, it get's hard to weedle something out of there. Your backgrounds and use of perspective is getting totally great, and your linework is just as crisp as ever. The drapery of that curtain thing behind Xia in her chair is just delicious.
And you guys keeping the communal story of void alive is the best thing. Amazing comics dude.
I love Xia. She's so adorable, especially when her tail is wagging. In addition to the great feedback Kura provided, I want to add that it would be good to figure out exactly how her ears interact with her hair, because if you look at page 5, it's clear that you weren't sure how to color the separation between them. It's really easy to ignore that detail when drawing characters with animal ears, but then you get stuck at an angle like the one I mentioned and don't know how to deal with it. Your art is so sharp and clean, I'd hate to see that small issue holding you back!
there are some consistency issues here. Xia's crown abruptly disappears after page 5 and her shirt seems to constantly switch between having two different logos or not having a design at all. Vivian also starts out with a murphy's law jacket in the first few pages, but the logo disappears when she turns around on the last page.
neat! This opens up a lot of fun possibilities! I like this Xia as queen of the underground, a rockin' club and some mysterious possible enemies could make for some cool future battles! plus underground fighting rings? rad! makes me want to make a third character just to have someone more like to party down there, ha! As usual your characters are just so round and adorable and your tones look great! can't wait to see Club Lithium hoppin'!
I love the giant undergroud pool. I wanna swim in it.
I liked the poppy out panels on the last page. It lifts the composition of the page as a whole and makes it more dynamic.
The big splash page on page 4. I think it could be made much more exciting by coming at the room from a more interesting angle. So straight on is pretty drab. You can obvioulsy handle depth with your line weight and colouring so maybe challenge yourself with the angles you draw stuff at.
Same applies for characters. I get that this isn't an action packed comic and the arms crossed pose is very in character for Vivian but you could spice the poses up a bit. I don't know maybe the characters do a few things that make them that much more alive. Maybe scratching their arms, picking their nose. Stuff like that.
Real nice flow to it as a whole though. I don't know how to analyse that sort of thing, but it worked.
